  3. Sticking with Ian Wills selections. The Latter years at Wigan as well as unearthing new 60s discoveries, storming 70s dancers like this were rubbing shoulders, to equal effect on the dancefloor!!!
  4. Ian Wills is probably better known, as one the residents in Mr M's at Wigan, with an encyclopedic knowledge of the c/u's of the time. Here's one of the lesser known spins from the later years, still sounding the business!!

  8. Well on a super busy weekend on the Soul Calendar Saturday October 19th Ashton Ukrainian Club brings you a Stellar Line up!! Two of the mainstays from the much missed Grumpy Soul Nights will be joining us behind the decks for one night only and WHAT a night it promises to be, with huge interest already!! Phil Threlfall has an amazing collection expect the best sounds from The Post Wigan Era and beyond in the words of The Prophets "if I had one gold piece" (or in Ashton £5) you get to experience an amazing evening of Rare Soul!! Jumping Joan has an infectious personality, which shines like a Soulful Beacon, dragging folk to the dancefloor, mixing the rarities with quality cheapies, which are just too good, not to dance to!! We are also honored for the second time this year to welcome Tim Ashibende, as well as being a great historian in the history of our scene, Tim is a quality DJ, canny wait for his return!! Ian Wills is sooo looking forward to his debut set and so are we, expect the best from the halcyon days to current big spins!! Phil Dunn will be opening the night for all our early birds!! Team Ukrainian OG Chris Churm completes the line up, well known of late as "The Finisher" with some legendary end of evening sets !!   18. As Derek Pearson correctly identified Tommy Turner had two releases on the label, with one letter different in the title, but a major difference in value!!!

  21. As September draws to a close, we're already laying plans for when The Grumpy Soul Crew are back with us at Ashton Ukrainian Club. Saturday October 19th another Top DJ line up awaits Phil Threlfall and Jumpin' Joan bringing you all the biggies from Iconic Soul Clubs in the 80s Stafford TOTW, Shotts, Morecambe Pier and many more, mixed in with some quality "back of the box" cheapies, just waiting to light up the dance floor!! Add to that ex Mr M's resident Ian Wills and fellow Wigan Casino stalwart Tim Ashibende, both of these guys have been active Post Wigan and Tim in particular, is responsible for unearthing some of today's current big spins to the scene while he was viny hunting Stateside late 70s and built up an enviable list of dealer and record producer contacts !! Both capable of providing a few surprises in their sets, not to be missed for sure!! Phil Dunn will be kick starting the proceedings and Ashton Head Honcho Chris Churm will be providing the usual rock solid support!!! All this for just £5 admission pay on the door, the night runs 7pm-00.30 Record Sales Boxes are most welcome, as the bar area doubles as a chill out/record sales area.
