The weekend is now on the horizon, nearly time for Ashton Ukrainian Club to celebrate it's 5th anniversary, the buzz on the event is off the scale!! If you're looking to recapture the vibe that we all remember from the 90s soul clubs, in a packed house, with an eclectic play list to go with it and haven't yet sampled the Ukrainian Club Atmosphere, then Saturday January 21st and now running 7.30 pm-1am with only £5 admission pay on the door is THE place to be. But don't delay as the club fills up really quickly !! Top Quality Guest DJs this month Ted Massey and Chris Anderton making an all too rare appearance behind the decks!! The lounge as ever will be the area for the odd quality rare soul sales boxes and of course catch up with old friends and our in house speaker, means you won't miss a beat from the main room!! Ukrainian Club Supremo Chris Churm Steve Skopek and Phil Dunn will be kicking the night off in fine style. As the bar staff have kindly agreed to extend our opening hours, all we ask if our regulars can take glasses back to the bar(every little helps) The bar shuts at the normal time, but the music carries on till 1am, what's not to like? Please feel free to RSVP the event and sample some of the fine music on offer, by checking some of the above clips, see you there!!!!

One slight change to the line up, unfortunately John Hillel won't be able to make it, Steve Skopek who also has an amazing collection will be added to an already impressive DJ line up. Just about recovered from a great weekend away at Piercebridge New Year Weekender. Chalky brought the New Year in fine style, courtesy of Terry Callier "I don't wanna see my self" I must admit there was a bit of trepidation on my part when Simon Harrison asked me to do a bit, as it's been a looong time since I've played a modern/crossover set, tried to stick to the plan mainly 70s/80s with a few of my faves from the 90s and even managed to slot a few 60s mid tempo numbers in, in no particular order over the friday night and NYE 10-11 both nights Brothers Guiding Light "getting together" Jerry Butler "one night affair" Jean Carne "if you wanna go back" O'Jays "my favourite person" Marvin Gaye "come get to this" Darrow Fletcher "Love is my secret weapon" Solo "blowing my mind" Randy Crawford "give me the night" radio edit Collen + Webb "give me a call" Ann Nesby "in the spirit" Harold Melvin "praying" Debbie Taylor "just don't pay" Philip Ballou "we'll be together" Detroit Spinners "I'll be around" Diana Ross + The Supremes "stormy" Sandra Wright "I come running back" Bill Harris "am I hot am I cold" John Edwards "ain't that good enough" Eddie Kendricks "date with the rain" Barbara Lynn "trying to love two" Jean Carne "don't let it go to your head" Sounds of Blackness "I'm going all the way" Maxwell "Ascension" Gerry Devaux "front of the line" Beloyd "get into your life" Innersection "I'm in debt to you" Edwin Starr "running back and forth" Stevie Wonder "another star" Brothers of Soul "I'd be grateful" Celeste Hardie "you're gone" Robert Parker "I caught you in a lie" Odds and Ends "let me try" Cornelius Brothers + Sister Rose "too late to turn back now" Patricia + The Blenders (lol) "just because" Moses Smith "keep on striving" PS my experiment to play funky edge/northern was an epic fail, as the decks were obviously pre-set to eject them off the decks Chosen Few "birth of a playboy" (I tried lol)

Just got off the phone with Harry and it sounds like we're in for a busy one. The ultimate blend of classy underplayed 60s soul mixed in 70s/80s/90s soul music aimed firmly at the dancefloor. Some great chill out sessions are planned for the afternoons on friday and saturday,so definitely a bit of something for everyone, what's not to like? The venue has undergone a refurb and looks the business , for what promises to be a memorable weekend!! -
