Request number two from me
-
Well who would have thought it, as well as this month's event having a nod to those heady niters at Lifeline. Ashton mainstay Simon Ingham created another memorable period and provided a shining light in the period of "lockdown" BVAN provided a platform for like minded souls to share their love and knowledge of the vinyl gems that were just waiting to have their day!! Quite a few of the BVAN regulars Wilxy, Steve Smith, Simon, Baz Maleady, Chalky, myself and many more are now regulars at Ashton, where we share a similar ethos(quality is the key, regardless of value or rarity) A perfect example(to these ears anyway) is this gem from Gospel Soulman Ron Kenoly. I believe it had sporadic spins at stafford, deffo hits the spot!!

First Request from me, please play this Andy !!

Saturday July 15th Ashton Ukrainian Club swings back into action. No let up in the distance our attendees travel for our unique atmosphere !! Last month was staggering with travellers from Perth Western Australia, Bournemouth, West Midlands, Bradford, Gorton lol .The word is definitely out for this unmissable event!! This month we have a flavour of one of THE ground breaking events on the rare soul scene "Lifeline", with two of the original resident DJs at this much revered event Andy Dyson and Karl "Chalky" White guesting for us. It's gonna get soulful!! Making his Ashton debut, one of the real characters from the North East Alan Coney(expect the unexpected)!! Team Ukrainian main stay Mr Simon Ingham, makes the looong trek from the Cheshire plains(alright Stockport) Holding it all together Mr Ashton himself Chris Churm and Phil Dunn complete a real strong line up. All this for a mere £5 pay on the door, gets you a slice of the action at this eagerly anticipated event. Please, please arrive early to avoid disappointment!! We have a separate chill out/ record bar with our "in house" sound system piped in for all you lounge lizards and vinyl hounds!! The night runs 7pm-00.30 ,please check out the thread on here, for a bite size sample of what's on offer. Please feel free to RSVP the event!!

Bit of a BVAN reunion,be good to see you

Another quality line up for our July 15th date at Ashton Ukrainian Club. We have a flavour of the fabulous Lifeline niter events, we welcome Andy Dyson and Chalky, two of the residents from an event, which definitely was a LIFELINE for the rare soul scene!! I'm sure Chalky can give us some background regards the ethos and history of the events, which kicked off at Sheridans in Dewsbury and boasted a stellar resident line up that also included Butch, Mick H, Cliff Steele. Alan Coney one of the scene's characters from the North East, with an amazing collection will be making his debut at Ashton, along side Stockport's finest Simon "enthusiast" Ingham with a non too shabby collection. As ever Sir Chris Churm and Phil Dunn complete what(we think) is an amazing line up!! See you there!!!

Well we said it was gonna be hot, hot, hot and Boy was it, the music and atmosphere and on a real busy night on the soul calendar, to say it surprised us, is an understatement!!! People turned up in numbers yet again, it was really humbling and we know we are providing the kind of "old school" soul night that is sadly lacking today. Unbelievable feedback and once again, we thank the Ashton Faithful, you guys make this night what it is!! Nice to catch up with Steve Cato and Lydia, Shirley Wood(still owe you for the mag ooops) Debbie Troops and so many more. Onto the reason we're here(the music) Phil Dunn did a great early doors set and a non too shabby earlier spot from Ashton Supremo Chris Churm. John Baggaley and Dave Flint(hope I spelled that right) provided a quality mix of the known and not so well known 45s. Next up Tony Mac, who I'll always say re-ignited my passion for "this thing of ours" after a local soul night, late 80s I think? Tremendous hour and the dance floor lapped it up. Gibby Gibby followed with record after record, thanks for the request The Groovettes a late casino spin I think, sounded "on the money" bouncing out of the speakers, quality set mate, Rockmasters an inspired last record!! I had the unenviable task of ending another memorable night and it was great to see the floor full till the last record. Hats off to that man Robbo requesting "watch out little girl" The Invitations, it had folk running back in the room, inspired choice mate!! Our next night Saturday July 15th with more than a hint of those heady Lifeline niters, with a more than welcome return behind the decks for two of the residents there Andy Dyson and Karl Chalky White, add to that one of the scene's characters from the North East Alan Coney and our very own Simon Ingham. Keep your eyes on the soul press nearer the time for more details!!! June 2023 Ashton Video.mp4

WOW,WOW,WOW Ashton Ukrainian delivers again big time. In the current economic climate, people voting with their feet yet again!! We aim to provide a top quality night out and last night was truly humbling to see more new attendees, we had a few of our regulars missing, sorry guys you missed a cracker!! The warm weather meant a few turned up a bit later, so a slow burn , kicked into maybe one of the best we've had and after Phil Dunn opening set, we had a non too shabby early set from Phil Dick rare as you dare, unreleased gems and seldom heard classics meant for a great spot. Derek Watmough followed and kept the assembled masses moving with some great requests programmed in, Intertains "I need your love" hit the spot!! Phil Threlfall up next completed a tale of "three Phil's" first up Appointments "I saw you there" well and truly lit the fuse for a monumental spot. Willie Tee "having so much fun" Purple Mundy and so many more. Tsop Manchester Baz Maleady followed, just when you thought it couldn't get any better? IT DID!!! An absolute master class in selections, presentation and reading the floor, take a bow sir and enjoy the attached video snippet!! Chris Churm finished the night with the usual quality mix, last record?? They were having non of it Cody Black "Mr Blue" finishing a "you had to be there" occasion!! Nice to catch up with Martyn Bradley, memories of the great Albrighton sessions and the fastest delivery driver in the North West Debbie Carty delivering the odd rare soul gem as well as Motor Parts!! Please keep checking back on here for details of our next night, saturday June 17th is the date for your diary!! May 23 Ashton Video.mp4
