  5. Is this the same guy? Oooops in my defence it was early DOH!!!
  6. Classic Detroit Soul from The Stafford TOTW All-Nighters for Baz Maleady's next selection and another record that shares the same backing track as another In-demander in the form of Charles Holiday "just can't trust nobody" Equally as good in my opinion is this take by The Four Voices !!
  7. This version gets occasional spins from me, a quality production that obviously someone had faith in, given the different versions out there!!
  8. We're off and running into a new week and our traditional Monday Morning Banger comes from Baz Maleady, the guy with surely the most complete collection of all things Soulful across the decades and genres!! A track that shares the same backing tracking track as Sugar + Sweet "cool it baby" but you already knew that

  11. April is peeping round the corner this time digging into Stu "DJ Fontana" Cheetham (look it up) playbox Ending the week on a high with The Vanguards !!
  12. Affectionately known back then as "kicking the cat" OUCH!!
  13. Our "North West DJ special" at Ashton Ukrainian Club on Saturday April 12th seems to have captured the imagination!! Baz Maleady is a prime example, like many of us embracing The Rich history of Soul Music in all it's guises which shows in an always imaginative playlist, aimed firmly at the dancers. Please check back regularly via the link, as we add some of Baz's and all the guest DJ selections on the excellent Soul-Source event page thread!! I'll always cite Tony Mac as the Catalyst for re-igniting my interest in the Rare Soul Scene in the late 80s with some excellent local events at The much missed Bridge Hall Niters in Bury and some great sessions at Rochdale Football Club. Always a quality hour guaranteed with maybe a few Wilton Memories!! Stu "Parcel O' Soul" Cheetham is having a night off from his gigging around the North West as an accomplished drummer, which probably explains his unique feel for a record the dancers will embrace, bringing the heat, as only he can!! Phil Dunn will be your host for the opening slot, lots of positive comments from The Ashton Faithful Early Birds!! Mick Howard and Chris Churm AKA the finisher always sends the dancers home, singing and dancing complete our "Made in the North West" Special, hope you can join us, admission just £6 pay on the door. The music and "oh so special atmosphere" starts at 7pm running till 00.30 Don't miss it !!!
  14. Revisiting Tony Mac's selections and a record for me synonymous with another North West Legend Sir Bob Hinsley. This record always drags tired limbs back on the dancefloor!! April 12th we can't wait!!!
  15. Uptempo Stormer for Stu's next selection, hang on to your hats !!!
  16. Delighted to have Baz Maleady back doing a guest spot. Baz is the original "Dark Horse" mistakenly assumed by some as a DJ purely associated with The Modern Soul Scene? That's only part of his back story, an OG from the early days of Wigan, through the Jazz Funk years and the natural progression in the early 80s of the fledgling Modern Soul Scene. His collection embraces all that and more BUT he has an amazing collection of Classic and Rare Soul 45s, like you wouldn't believe!! Always Championing the overlooked/underplayed 45s and is well remembered as the driving force of the much missed Saints Club in St Helens and 45s like The Dream Merchants had their "day in the sun" expect the unexpected !!!
  17. I remember buying a copy of this for £20 on recommendation from Bob Hinsley, mid-late 90s when Soul Bowl's John Anderson, had quantity of this and most/all of Huey P Meaux back catalogue, managed to buy another off him which I sold on for about £50 OUCH. Kept my copy and managed to get it signed by Barbara Lynn when she appeared at The Fleetwood Weekender, probably in my top five live acts, she had everything!!! Unfortunately a few years when like most of us "something else" comes up for sale, think my copy went to a Swedish Collector, got what I considered a good price, Aah well!!! Flip gets a few outings on the European Scene I believe?
  18. Looking forward to my debut DJ set at WOLFIES SOUL CLUB heard so many good things about the event and ten years running is no mean feat, take a bow Natalie Nicholls x DJ'ing in esteemed company, should be a great night AND the only way to start your Easter Weekend !!!
  19. With our very own Personal Trainer/Drummer Stu Cheetham ready and raring to go, it should be a Parcel O' Soul (if you know, you know) Stu will be doing an early doors set with a few "left fielders" thrown in the mix. His next selection is an Anthem from The Rare Groove Scene, achingly Soulful, just how we like it!!
  20. Group Soul Par Excellence from Stu Cheetham for our next selection!!
  21. Culcheth Head Honcho Baz Maleady is back with us and is the DJ responsible for today's Monday Banger, to kick start our week. There's a theory in the DJ/collector Fraternity that all the best records are on Yellow Labels?? Case in Point, The Districts WHOOOOSH!!!
  22. Just watched it, a really enjoyable documentary and I'm sure most on here can relate to spending most of our Adult Lives doing just that, thankfully we still have the excellent King Bee Records in sunny Chorlton Cum Hardy and Les is still turning up the odd thing or three, well worth a visit!!!
  23. ** Revised Line Up for April 12th event at Ashton Ukrainian Club ** Keeping The North West DJ flavour and the driving force for The Awesome Culcheth Soul Nights Baz Maleady is a wonderful addition to the night, I'm sure you will agree !! As ever please keep a watch on here , for any updates and musical additions, as we near the date!!
  24. We started the week with a Tony Mac selection, only fitting we close the week, with another one from his playbox. Over to Chicago for an Achingly Soulful Mid Tempo Gem !!
  25. April at Ashton Ukrainian Club is looking good already. Saturday April 12th is the date for your diary, as stated club commitments mean we run a week earlier than our normal third Saturday!! This Month is a Showcase of some amazing DJs in the North West!! Tony Mac, Ashton Regular and long time face on the scene, going all the way back to the Halcyon Days at The Pendulum Club in Manchester!! He has some amazing records for the dancers, as ever and always a popular name to include on the line up!! Another Ashton Regular, Stu Cheetham, Ace Personal Trainer and Drummer, gigging round the North West, is there no end to this man's talents? Nearly forgot a Class DJ, with his all action adrenaline fuelled "you gotta dance" DJ sets!! Add to that Team Ukrainian resident early doors DJ Phil Dunn who also provides a great opening set and a smiling face(occasionally lol) before he takes your admission fee, which is still an absolute bargain(we think) at £6!! Mick Howard and Chris Churm complete another quality line up, for The Ashton Faithful, who always make the night what it is, with that indefinable Old School Soul Club Atmosphere!! The night runs 7pm-00.30 We also have the music piped through to the Lounge/Record Bar Area, sales boxes always welcome!! Please check back regularly as we constantly add the guest DJ selections on our Soul-Source Event page thread!!
