What a great end to our monthly Soul nights at Ashton Ukrainian Club!! Horrendous weather, but that didn't deter the Travellers, a packed house, tells it's own story !! The sound equipment was problematic, early doors, apologies Luci Jones sincerely hope it didn't ruin, what everyone agreed was a great spot, we'd love to have you back behind the decks next year!! Quality opening set previous to you by Phil Dunn a nice mix of R+B and mid tempo gems. Simon Ingham delivered in spades, as we have come to expect at Team Ukrainian!! A dancers delight, expertly weaving the styles and tempos! Jumping Joan had the dancefloor, well jumping, simple really!!! Foreign Blue Renaissance, Four Voices and many more, all delivered with boundless enthusiasm!! Roger Banks was back in his old stomping ground and looked to be having a ball behind the decks, the dancers lapped it up. Really nice touch from Rowena Ribena Morgan and everyone who donated to the collection for our hard working bar staff!! Chris Churm wrapped the night up in fine style!! A great response from The Ashton Faithful, we salute you for your unwavering support, some nice messages already coming through from last night, makes it all worthwhile!! From everyone at Team Ukrainian have a great Christmas and New Year, see you all in January!! December Roger Banks Video.mp4

Our lovely volunteer bar staff have agreed to "let the music play on" Please give what you can to the collection for their sterling efforts on our behalf, it really is appreciated, as are YOU!! The Ashton Faithful!! Seeing a great year out in fine style, we have assembled a DJ line up, worthy of the occasion!! Roger Banks will not only be keeping the dancefloor moving, there will be his R+B record sales bar in the lounge area. Roger is no stranger to the area, there's a more in depth profile on the thread, so go check that out and feel free to RSVP the event!! Phil Dunn will as ever be doubling up up behind the decks and working the door, gonna be a busy boy on Saturday!! Luci Jones will be ensuring the dance floor is Jumping, with her all action vinyl selections!! Talking of Jumping, Joan Livsey will be reminding us of some truly memorable nights at Grumpy Soul!! Team Ukrainian Fixer/A+R man Simon Ingham, will be digging deep, championing the quality lesser played gems and current monster spins!! Lord Ashton Chris Churm will be rounding off a monumental night in fine style, maybe Helga might just let him play just one more record Ssshhh!! Roger is really looking forward to Saturday, as are we, for more reasons than one! Roger is no stranger to the area, as he lived just down the road in Stalybridge, or Staly Vegas, as it's known locally lol circa 83-86 He was DJing at most of the major niters of the time including Warrington Parr Hall, Bradford and Loughborough, whilst running soul nights at Stalybridge Celtic Football Club and was a regular DJ at Hyde Botanical Club circa 87/90. Roger recalls spending many days at Yanks, formerly Global Records in back Chepstow street, Manchester, a place I visited regularly in the mid 70s. After striking up a relationship with the owner Ed(Balbier?) he had access to the back vaults, with 1,000s of unsorted boxes of 45s which yielded gems like Harry Starr, Cookie Jackson, Tony Galla , Tony Middleton(Spanish Maiden) and many more WOW!! Over time amassing a large haul of 45s filled his then house in Blackpool and led to Roger setting up his record sales business, which you will know, still remains active to this day, on here and at venues up and down the country. Other memorable finds included Spyder Turner on goodtime at a short lived record shop in Stalybridge, near the market and infamous "tripe shop" So a bit of a reunion on the cards on Saturday and of course Roger will be selling some quality 45s as well!! In the words of Big Maybelle "I just can't wait any longer"!!

You'll love it mate!!

Looking forward to the selections from Roger Banks, this always rocks the floor!! Also watch out for a fascinating insight into Rogers time living just down the road in Stalybridge, some amazing stories, keep your eye on the thread for that and much more!!

Premier League Detroit, hope Joan brings this on Saturday!!

Great night at Culcheth, some amazing sets. Great opening set from Simon Ingham and Chalky, double decking, quality all the way!! I had the unenviable task of following them. A mixture of styles and tempos from me, nice to see a positive response from the dancers. Bolton's Paul Johnson followed, with some great late Wigan/Stafford vibes, some tasty stuff mate!! Great to see Ian Wills behind the decks, a truly great and varied set and nice to see Angie Heap Wills continuing her 50th(cough) celebrations. Sorry we had to leave slightly early as the weather took a turn for the worse(understatement) made for shall we say interesting drive/ski home. Roads completely untreated given the forecast is not good!!! Cars spinning out and stranded at the side of the road!! Look forward to the February anniversary night!!!

Well we're into the final week before our year end finale. Down to Fort Lauderdale for some rhythm and soul, courtesy of Luci Jones

In the words of The Magnetics, we're literally "counting the days" to Saturday, December 9th at Ashton Ukrainian Club. Bringing the curtain down on a monumental year!! Whilst looking forward to some mouth watering DJ line ups for 2024!! As a thank you to The Ashton Faithful, we've secured a later finish, this time running 7pm-1am all for just £5 admission pay on the door. Phil Dunn will be playing the soulful platters to start the night and also be taking your hard earned entrance fee, on what's shaping up to be a real busy one!! Luci Jones will be debuting her high octane playlist, aimed squarely at the dancers, so don't miss that!!! Jumping Joan is guaranteed to get you up and at 'em on the dancefloor. A few choice examples can be found on the thread, so please have a listen and feel free to RSVP the event!! Roger Banks, needs no introduction, well known at all the best venues, all over the UK. I think he will be bringing a few vinyl delights for you to peruse in the "Lounge Lizard" area, with the sound track from the main room, piped through, live and direct!! Simon Ingham, Stockport and Team Ukrainian's finest, is primed and ready with a heady mix of current monster spins, while championing the lesser played gems!! Chris Churm rounding off a memorable 2023, as this club, just grows and grows!! Quite a few people, already booked in at the local hotels, as we celebrate with our Pre-Christmas Special!! Please arrive early to avoid disappointment, see you all there!!
