For me Billy Thompson was always one of the standout quality tracks on Ian Levines Sceptre/Wand 1975 Solid Soul Sensations compilation LP and it is always well received on the dancefloor. Like you say Mick It still sounds as brilliant now as it did 50years ago at the Casino or in my case the Mecca.

I'm guessing it got it's first spins at The Mecca then and yeah what a great compilation LP that was !!

  5. Just speaking to Carl and he's really looking forward to Ashton and right in our Musical Ethos, as well as the big ticket items, there are gems like this, that won't devastate your bank account!!!

  6. Kicking off a New Week with a BANG!! From the play box of Bob Hitchcock.  A record that has stood the test of time, from the heady days of The Casino and still sounding the business!!

  7. Another Soul packed year at Ashton Ukrainian Club awaits with some amazing Guest DJs already scheduled for the coming months!!

Mine as well mate but if my memory's correct he requested the flip side at Culcheth however both sides are brilliant.

Agreed and for me an Ivy Jo situation, been about in collections for years but never seemed to do it self justice on the dance floor. Ivy Jo finally getting the attention it deserves at last!! Time for The Versatones to have it's day!!

  9. As we dip our toes into the New Year and we start with an incredible Detroit Double sided Delight from Jackey Beavers, courtesy of Team Ukrainian Originator Chris Churm, does it get any better than this? WHOOOOOSH !!!

Mick, I'd like to wish you and Karen a Happy New Year, you've quite rightly asked the Ashton Faithful to take a bow of which I'm not one yet, but I aim to become one in the new year. I'm saying to you Mr Howard that you too Sir should take a bow yourself for all the hard work you do in promoting this venue. Credit were it's due pal. I'll see you on the 18th and It'll be the first time I've seen Chalky DJ since Simon persuaded him to come out of retirement to do The Bury Town Hall Allnighter a few years ago. Most of the main hall came up to support him in the Kenwood Suite upstairs and he gave them a wonderful selection of Lifeline classics and unreleased things as well. 👍👏👏

Awww thanks Bob, my pleasure, it's a labour of love and we like to think we provide a quality night out at the right price. We never rest on our laurels and keep pushing forward. Great news you're coming down and yeah Chalky usually pulls a few surprises out from the Lifeline Niters, onwards and upwards for 2025 🙌

  11. Well as NYE celebrations await, time to look back with an enormous sense of pride and satisfaction of what has been a monumental year at Ashton Ukrainian Club!!

So many highlights and some nights that will live long in the memory and of course most importantly quality music throughout the year. We aim to put varied DJ line ups on for The Ashton Faithful who turn up every month and create the indefinable Atmosphere and we don't say this lightly, without you guys, we simply couldn't do it, so take a bow!!

A lot of thought and consideration goes into every event, long may it continue!! We've had some esteemed guests probably gonna miss a few names out I'm sure, so apologies in advance!! A few names that jump out Andy Dyson at our Anniversary event in February, just awesome!! Roger Banks who always entertains and educates in equal measures and who could forget the May event which was a long time in the planning, with nerves jangling over the ticket allocation for when we had Mark Butch Dobson as our guest DJ and thanks to our resident "Fixer" Simon Ingham who went above and beyond at no little cost to make sure the sound equipment was A1!!

It was a warm May evening and Lord Ashton Chris Churm was trying to block out the late evening sunshine from the main room, shutting the high window curtains, when the curtain rail gave way and came crashing down...............Chris went into full on Basil Fawlty meltdown, hopping about crazily. In steps Super Hero Keano with his trusty step ladder and toolbox, minutes later, order restored..... PHEW!!!

Ted Massey did his usual high quality set in July, as we've come to expect!! Our August date, so we thought might be quiet, with people on holidays, ermmm no, it was maybe our busiest night of the year, with some mind blowing sets from Stuart Raith, Gis Southworth and Paul Johnson. We were lucky enough to have Tim Ashibende behind the decks twice this year, some amazing stories behind every track that hits the turntable!!!

Some returnee DJ sets that always deliver include Baz Maleady and Alan Jenkins two quality guys, with collections to match. Can't forget Natalie Nicholls the driving force behind The Excellent Wolfies Soul Nights, who moved heaven and earth to high tail up the M6 for an amazing set, she will deffo be back behind the decks in 2025!! Matt Sneath was for me another highlight, first time behind the decks and he smashed it!!! As did local legend Mr Ian Wills, I bet you won't hear a better early doors set!!!!

All that remains is to wish one and all a Happy New Year and we'll catch you in the New Year. Saturday January 18th, put that date in your diary !!

  12. Well the start of a new week, I think??................................Yeah we're officially in "Betwixtmas" but we're heading towards 2025!!

Ormskirk Collector/DJ Bob Hitchcock will be making his DJ Debut at Ashton!! Stunning mid tempo from the Volt Stables for Bob's first selection!!

Karl White makes a welcome return with a few choice LP cuts and unissued gems from the much missed Lifeline Niters, should be good!!

Please check back regularly on our Soul-Source event page thread, as the guest DJ selections start to build up, in readiness for the night and feel free to RSVP the event.

    See you there!!

  14. As the dust settles on our end of year finale event at Ashton Ukrainian Club, early shout for our first event of 2025.

We have a Nordic Flavour to our first date. Saturday January 18th with Sweden's finest Soul Export, Carl Hedberg making his DJ debut. Check out the link at the bottom of the thread for some sample spins from the Maestro!!

A bit nearer home Team Ukrainian "Fixer" Simon Ingham is back behind the decks. So it's a case of "Stockholm meets Stockport, some quality Rare Soul coming at you.

Karl White AKA Chalky will be digging through his treasure trove of Rare Soul Albums to provide some choice cuts in glorious stereo for the dancefloor!!

We have another Debutant DJ Robert Hitchcock An Ashton regular and well known face on the scene from the halcyon days. Bob can be found in the record bars, plying his trade wheeling and dealing in Rare Soul 45s.

Phil Dunn will be kick starting a New Year at The Club for us, believe me we have some Amazing Guest DJs lined up(watch this space)

Chris Churm will be hoping his trusty play box stays "In Situ" for the end of the night, with the usual classy mix to send everybody home singing and dancing!!

The night runs 7pm-00.30 and still only £5 pay on the door, wishing all The Ashton Faithful a Happy Christmas and we'll see you in January!!
