  1. "different"? to what? Please explain Surely this thread should be in the events section?????
  2. I'll bet you're right, Mr "Shrine" And I'll bet you are the man to do the educating After all, aren't you the one who said the other day: "Got to agree with steve L.modern and r/b should be at seperate venues****** *** and **** ****** you are total arseholes and are obviously returnees so get alife and come back when you know what NORTHERN SOULS ALL ABOUT."? Regards, Dave
  3. It's not a load of bollox, Dave.....it makes the best points in the thread! i.e. I have DJ'd at plenty of 'local' soul nights and the majority go out for their once a month, or even longer, 'fix' and when I or others have played something 'new' the floor will clear; unless of course it is 'instant' (maybe giving rise to the popluraity of such things as 'party trime man'?), because of the infrequency of going to soul nites many of these people do not want to hear new stuff - they want to go dance to tunes they know; and good for them, it used to annoy me but I came to realisde that they are as an integral part of the soul scene as anyone else (and of course some of these may then move onto other things). Certainly not my cup of tea, but each to their own.
  4. For the "Events" section
  5. What do you want to be when you grow up.......Kev Roberts?
  6. I requested that at a do in Peterborough recently as a p*ss-take of what they were playing They didn't get it and played the record....it filled the floor! Serves me right, I suppose
  7. Bloody hell! Big come down is it?
  8. Spot on about Cleggy's 70's oldies, John. The place led many of us that attended in the 70s to a broader appreciation of soul music But, as you say, this is about Desborough. Forgive me for not saying hello - I didn't realise you were there I'm not a subscriber to any mafia, 60s or otherwise, but I thought a lot of the 70s and 80s music played was pretty far removed from the type of crossover one would expect to hear at a Northern event. I thought some of it did not merit the term "soul". It was wishy-washy, commercial, poppy stuff with no urgency to it. In other words, nothing going for it from a soulie's point of view. Also, as Dave R has suggested, if there is a "modern" room at an event, why not confine it to that area? Dave
  9. I agree, Glyn. Musically it was dire. I got the impression they were trying to cater for two different audiences. They need to make their minds up whether it's a Northern night ...or not.
  10. Ah, Ally McLoud!!!!! Isn't he the one about whom the joke that tactics are a small round mint began?
  11. Don't blame you, Rach
  12. I was just thinking something similar myself, mate And its none of my business, either but this thread does make entertaining reading, doesn't it ?

  16. Me? Get somebody pissed? Heaven forbid.....what would Monsignor C say? (there is a certain member of this board who was unable to remember any of the Thursday night drinking at Prestatyn) And no, that isn't on there.
  17. Well, I'm not one to argue, sonny, but I'll just ask...."when?"
  18. Don't do it Shane! There's some rough boys on there.....you don't want to play with them! James, can I copy that cd for Shane for the weekend..... if I leave off the two "Northern" tracks? Dave
  19. I thought this was a very good post So good, in fact, that I'm not even going to get into an academic argument about who heard the Hamilton Movement first
  20. Think we can assume you are a prick then mate
