"Ladiesman",
I collect and occassionally play a bit of original vinyl, but tend to think each to his own and have stayed out of these type of debates in the past.....as has been said, most dancers don't give a shit.
However you have steamed in and singled out one particular event, the promoters of which do not come on here, for criticism.
To add a bit of perspective, the soul event at Drax was started by and for a few mates who wanted to hear a bit of music without travelling. It has never been heavily promoted and the guys do not pretend to be big name DJs. A mixture of vinyl and CDs is played and entry originally cost £2 of "hard earned cash". Recently this has been raised to £3 as the event has become very popular and the organisers now have a guest DJ.
The atmosphere here is always friendly and people go to dance and have a good time....very little bolotics! I know for a fact that Drax has introduced, and reintroduced, a lot of people to the scene , some of whom have then ventured further afield...perhaps even to venues you approve of!
I personally have no problem with the set up at Drax when you compare it to the "name" DJ's who play boots and one headline DJ I saw this weekend playing an entire set off CDs.....but nobody jumps in to name him, do they?
As for the people who have searched for rare vinyl.... yeah, good on 'em
But does that benefit the artists or production company? Some might argue that playing, for example, CDs bought on the Kent label repays in some small way the originators of the music!
Regards,
Dave
