  1. Hi Karen, Fair point, but not exactly reinforced by your choice of avatar?
  2. Thanks Steve The water can't have been that polluted at Wigan then? How's it going at the Playboy mansion?
  3. Not sexist at all. A piece of high quality art if you turn the sound off!
  4. Now then Reg, I can't really believe that poster was being serious about the movie attracting droves of young people to the scene....it must have been a joke/wind up. Is Steve Cato really over 30? Dave
  5. They did some filming in Scotland of dancers fairly recently, I think Matt M might know about this, and I believe they recruited some Brighouse regulars for it..... make of that what you will!
  6. Fairly sure it was Poke that first played both Pusherman and Pimp. I reckon Crow is one you either love or hate....I'm in the former camp!
  7. Well thanks for the link anyway mate!
  8. Aha! If you can't remember who played it.....could it be that you actually heard it at Sams? BTW, the water was a lot cleaner on the Eastern side of the country......not!
  9. Yeah I can imagine M H U I Y would go better....bit more user friendly Can you remember who played I Y P? I've always liked Trespassing the best of the three, but I'm in a very small minority there, I fancy!
  10. I know mate....thats why I asked :graynone:
  11. It would be difficult to prove that there were records played at Cleggy and not Wigan, but there were some like Elusive, as suggested by Jamie (leave him alone Andy!!! ), Crow, Black Nasty, Willie J, Skullsnaps and my avatar that were readily accepted at Cleggy but had a very limited response at Wigan. I reckon I've seen World Column on a Wigan compilation CD, which I think is a bit ironic really. And before anybody asks, I did go to both places in 75/6 onwards......just preferred the more open-minded approach at Cleethorpes
  12. I changed the avatar to see if anybody would say what you've said mate I had the SOITS from the first anniversary, but sadly gave it away in the 80's
  13. Thanks Steve! Nearly mended Not just the North mate.....West Midlands as well? Might get away with it more lightly than if it was in All About The Soul. Now...MUST be almost time for your nap....
  14. Lynn Johnson - Wicked Woman.....what is this worth? T I A, Dave
  15. I agree with you Miff, about Cleggy being the better....especially when the two venues ran together. Like it says in the interview, you could walk from the Wintergardens to the Pier and hear the stomping long before you got there and then feel the pier vibrating as you walked along it. The music was, as he says, "a melting pot" of what was played at the Casino and the Mecca....new release followed 60s record and we just accepted it and enjoyed it. The only misleading thing about the interview is that it gives the impression that Cleggy took its lead from the other two, whereas in fact a lot of records were first broken there. After all, one of the DJs worked at Soul Bowl....he had access to the imports first! Cleethorpes influenced the music policy of many a venue down the Eastern side of the country and the musical taste of a hell of a lot soulies.
  16. Has Chrissie given you permission to be here?
  17. I agree.....it is inexcusable for a DJ who is paid with punter's money to spend all night in a record bar then nip out 5 minutes before he's on and play repeats Its been a bit quiet on SS this week, so I'll ask this: Does anyone else think it tends to be the old guard, "name" Djs, who are most guilty of this?
  18. Did somebody force him to listen to it then?
  19. Two out of three is a better response than usual
  20. If you said you were going to mix in a bit of R&B, the oddy funky tune and some of your rocksteady, you might tempt me
  21. Mercifully John, I think we were spared that one....I didn't hear it anyway!
  22. Stirrer!! I can tell you two that DIDN'T repeat.....Carol McCarthy and Butch....OK?
  23. Then be surprised.....both played some (well chosen) oldies. Sam's set was the best of the night ....mainly a mix of 60s and 70s oldies, including three consecutive Mowtown records, Will Collins, King Tut and the odd newer find like Margaret Little and Joseph Webster. I don't recall him playing anything modern and the floor was busy! It was left to the less imaginative DJs to spin shite like Futures and Ace Spectrum.... and needless to say, repeat them!! :graynone:
  24. As Hon Sec of the Barbara Lynn fan club, I have to compliment you on your choices Dan.....can't help wondering if we'd hear them out more if they were £200 records Here's a cheerful cheapie...will add another when I can find the bugger!
