  1. Doubtful for tonight Steve. Will it be "Full English" or is there a vegetarian option? Looking forward to Sam's though
  2. Do these "more interesting" events not play any oldies then? What do they play? No wonder some DJ's have difficulty posting up a playlist.
  3. Is that the yardtick of good taste for an oldie then? Whether or not you heard it in the 80's? Paul and quite a few more on here weren't on the scene in the 80s. And when you say "superceded by better things"... do you mean better, or rarer? I've always thought Tainted Love is a great record, and I can't remember the last time I heard it played it out, whereas at a recent "upfront" event I heard Hamilton Movement and a few others played more than once in one night... alongside some records that may well be rare and covered up, but didn't have one tenth of the urgency of Tainted Love. Perhaps Oldies are the new Upfront?
  4. Make the most of it... Shane will be here in a minute!
  5. Is that a typo? Do you mean tripe-fest? And don't be so intolerant of those that can't tolerate other's intolerances
  6. How is it a "slagfest"? And why just about oldies? I haven't read back, but I seem to remember you and Winston sharing a cosy giggle about "chin strokers"
  7. Paul, you're right mate.. we do go back a long way. I wasn't meaning to "knock" anybody, least of all you. I know you've a bigger variety of records than see's the light of day at the venues you mentioned. I also know that most of those that go there have a bloody good time. I did, however, agree with Baz's point that if the DJ's don't drop a few different ones in from time to time, how do they know the crowd wouldn't accept em? As an illustration, about 18 months ago I was making a nuisance of myself looking through the box of a mate of yours while he was playing. I found a copy of Johnny Howard in there and I asked him to spin it .... as he wouldn't sell me it. It went down well but he hadn't realised it had become a big record again. If you fancy playing a few of your less well known records at a future Limit event, I'll have a word with Jules and get back to you Best, Dave. P.S. I ain't gonna be drawn on the "pretentious numpty" bit!!
  8. Good post Baz The other point is if the DJ's/ Promoters went a bit further afield they might find that some of the records they regard as lesser known are actually bigger sounds than they think. As this seems to have turned into a thread about Peterborough rather than playlists, I would just like to point out that not every well attended soul night in Peterborough plays the top 100!
  9. Phil... don't go there mate! If Cato see's that, the thread will go on for ever!!
  10. Well there ya go ... missed the point again! Story of my life! So you mean the "Butch analogy" was irrelevant do you? OK! Yes I would, and have, travelled to venues on the strength of a playlist. That is one of the the major influences, along with DJ's/collectors present and the input from people whose opinion I value. And yes, its possible a playlist might put me off attending... obvious really! As for ego trips... check the size of your signature! Hope thats sufficiently reasoned for you Regards, Dave
  11. What? How can they be a bad thing? At worst, people will be indifferent. And does Butch post on here anyway? And does he play at your night? Am I missing your point?
  12. You're a grand bloke Gareth, but I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree over the Jeff Perry... its always seemed wishy-washy, trite, background music to me, and since its been played to death at soul nights in the last couple of years, thats made things worse. All subjective though, eh?
  13. Couldn't open that attachment thats now disappeared Steve... perhaps you could pm it?
  14. Oh for christ's sake Shane, lighten up! At least he hasn't mentioned reptiles and handbags!
  15. Good shout Karen... its a shocker aint it? And what about Somebody Perry - Love Don't Come No More Insipid Than yours And Mine?
  16. Same degree of originality as the muppets that ask upfront DJs if they've got any Northern, eh?
  17. No mate... its a great record! Rare? No Brilliant? Yes
  18. Listening to it now He's just played O'Jays - I Love Music.... why don't you let him know that its "Philly disco shite", Baz?
  19. In this case, substitute "CDs" for "records"
  20. Good!
  21. You needn't worry mate, you haven't used any seriously profane language! It's fine on here to accuse somebody, even a respected member of our scene, (not that Fossy is), of fraudulent practice or even threaten them, just so long as you don't use the word c***.... whoops, done it again As an aside, gotta say these threads crack me up... it clearly shows on the ebay photo "Goldmine Soul Supply Ltd". Who are we protecting? Does David Blunkett's dog have an ebay account?
  22. I've just read though this thread and I couldn't agree more Mark. It seems a little ironic to me that three long term members have been warned and effectively suspended from posting our true thoughts because we used some naughty words last week, yet a member hiding behind a pseudonym and with very few posts behind them is able to make defammatory comments about the business procedures of a respected member of the soul scene and thats ok? I think Mr Manship has been more than reasonable in the way he has conducted himself and if he hasn't already taken legal advice on these possibly libellous allegations, publicly displayed here, he is a very tolerant man indeed.
  23. no, you're right.
  24. Well I think Tesco is crap.... is that un-PC enough for you? For the stuffing, try roughly chopping some cooking apples and bunging them in... helps cut through the fattiness!
  25. That's a grumpy face Reg! We're all being nice because its the season of goodwill.... didn't you know? What do you stuff the duck with, btw?
