  1. If you don't want change, why are you involved in Lifeline? Not convinced about "never going to get youngsters in numbers...." Depends on the venue, city/town centre club type needed, and the music, uptempo all the way. There used to be a decent number of youngsters enjoying CIS and I've seen plenty at some R&B nighters, like the Rocket.
  2. Much as it pains me to say this... you are absolutely right Shane. Personally, the music policy you have suggested would appeal to me more than whats available now.... had my fill of smooth, mid-tempo lift music!

Hold on a minute Davie! I'm led to believe that Nijinsky had two left feet and it was only heart and enthusiasm that took him the top! No wait... that's the racehorse I'm thinking of. He had two right feet as well!
  4. Chalky, you are right with your "live and let live" comment, but I haven't seen any post that I would classify as "slagging off", and I haven't read that anyone failed to enjoy the night.
  5. That seems like fair comment to me
  6. Trev, just because the likes of you and I had to keep our traps shut back in the days of rationing, doesn't mean that people have to do the same today Who should we check with to see if our opinions are "ill informed"?
  7. Yes, I accept we are generally a bunch of anoraks on SS. What I meant was why should we expect everyone to want to learn the minutiae? It can be off-putting to many. As for the "disco" comment, its pretty subjective. As can be seen from this thread everybody has a slightly different take on what constitutes disco... same goes for other terms like modern, R&B etc
  8. Karen, you say "it's always nice to have new faces join the scene" but the rest of your post is typical of what puts a lot of new faces off IMO. Why should anybody have to listen to others and learn about the scene? What's wrong with just going to an event and enjoying it, as Wavy said he/she did? And as a general comment, not specifically to you, why are some people so touchy about any perceived criticism of Lifeline? When all said and done, there is no event which suits everybody.
  9. Still going strong Simon. Get in touch with Dendog... I hear he's organising a bus trip for Saturday!
  10. I'm not the biggest fan of the Carstairs, but how can a 30 year old record be modern? Do you refer to decimal currency as "modern money"?
  11. Dictators???? What a load of tripe! Most people over the age of 14 don't find gratuitous swearing and cheap sexual innuendo funny anyway. Are you Benny Hill?
  12. You are... a number of counts! Thats Juan Carlos... . . . . . . . . from Barcelona!!!!!
  13. To put it simply there are two reasons for dwinddling attendances. Too many events and a steadily decreasing number of people going out. Too many events because there's an abundance of people itching to put them on either to try to make a few bob or so that they and their mates can get behind the decks. The biggest pity to me is that those trying to play something different are the ones that seem to struggle the most. Decreasing audience for these events because the number of soulies who decide to call it a day is far greater than the number of newcomers. Reallistically the scene has become a nostalgia/social scene. 90% of soulies are not interested in the music, they just want to go to the nearest event from time to time, hear the same 200 records (off boots or cd's if thats the format), have a few drinks and generally relive their youth. They won't travel for the sake of music policy, they just want the nearest, most familiar venues where their mates go. Unfortunately it is just this attitude that puts off any younger people who like the music (and there are plenty). Potential newcomers soon shy away from being treated with suspicion and hearing about Wigan and etiquette from people dressed in 70's style clothes.
  14. Good post Mike! I don't know what you do for a living, but if you ain't a writer, you should be! PS. re your previous post.. you are not an outsider! PPS. I collect OV, (don't worry too much any more what others do), but I'm still one of the "shite" DJ's
  15. Conclusive evidence then! All these votes from a meagre membership of 3,500!
  16. You mean a standard NS set.
  17. What's being a mod got to do with it? Shane was expressing his opinion as a member IMHO.
  18. That's that cleared up then No probs mate
  19. WTF? This is getting a bit scary... where did I mention values?
  20. Biased? How is my view any more biased than others? I know the record was an example... and I used it as such. I understood what you were getting at... pity you didn't reciprocate! And show me where I said the nostalgia crowd don't count, clown! I made the point that they outbumber the "something different" element! I can see I should have drawn a fucking diagram!
  21. The real point is that most who are arguing for OV wouldn't want to hear Ruby Andrews anyway. Same is true of the few hundred people who travel to most allnighters. On the other hand, those that do want to hear it for the millionth time are amongst the thousands of nostalgia fans who don't give a shit about the format. Who is right and who is wrong?
  22. Summed up in one sentence! Trouble is, SS is a place where people seem to worry an awful lot about what others are doing.
  23. What are you on?
