  1. Well if you consider this thread is akin to blasphemy, why contribute then? (I use the word "contribute" loosely.)
  2. Steve, what Pete says is valid. The new releases played at Cleethorpes in the mid 70s fitted in alongside the 60s music. It was with the late 70s and 80s releases that the change came about... and that change was in tempo. The watered down, mid-tempo stuff is what gets overplayed at so called ATB nights now, because it's easy for the obese or over-fortified "soulie" to shuffle along to, and that's one reason why some have moved towards 60s events. Incidentally, it's interesting to see some enlightened folks calling for "truely across the board" music policies, encompassing the five decades of soul music, etc etc, as long as there's no shite R&B played... kinda negates the whole noble ideaology, surely?

  6. That's a promotional video for Chcago's
  7. Hello Jock, What I said is based on Beeks' posts on this thread, which have generally been fairly intelligent and also affable when you consider he's been called a "twat" and a "dick". I didn't know he'd been calling you names.. any chance of a link? Going back to the original post there's some fair points, regardless of one's opinion of the way he puts them. And as for his age? Well, it's a red herring, isn't it? He's 35 FFS, not 19! BTW I'm not biting on the geographical reference
  8. Since when has "endearing yourself to people" been your number one priority? There's too many people read this forum and either never post, or just tow the line, for fear of getting a mauling. I say good luck to anyone prepared to express an opinion, whether I agree with it or not.
  9. Rousing post! The pedigree you speak of is sooo important! After all, it's the pedigree that makes the horse pal! On the other hand, when it's worn out, it's the horse that makes the Pedigree Chum! This is the essence of the problem, isn't it? Young whipersnapper, only 35 FFS, comes on here and dares to express opinions! What's the world coming to? Furthermore, he has the audacity to express those opinions intelligently and in an affable manner! I despair! "We didn't fight in two world wars to have this sort of..... etc etc etc "
  10. Short thread, but very funny
  11. Yeah, that's all right for you to say as an established member of the club! However, I turned up last week with a Humbrol Fokke Wolfe kit and I was met with a very hostile reaction on account of "Humbrol are later issues and therefore not acceptable!" With that I was shown the door! Such snobbery eh?
  12. Hang on a minute.. I don't believe you are Welsh! I watch Gavin & Stacey, and therefore I know that the Welsh begin every sentence with the phrase: "Now, I won't lie to you..."
  13. Hmm. I reckon most of the exciting new records I've heard in the last few years have been played by "recognised DJs". In fact you could say "big name" DJs. And mainly at nighters.
  14. Good point there about the OVO.. it would also prevent the newer records getting tired so quickly. The only thing is though, those promoters you blame are often promoting because it's the only way they get to DJ! There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of "DJ's" these days, many of whom have decent collections as you say, but there's still only ten or a dozen DJs whose name on an event billing would persuade me to go out of my way to attend that event.
  15. W T F are you on man? "Look at your own history"... what do you mean by that? Comparing your petty little whinges with the orations of great men, and your perceived unfair treatment to that dealt by dictators and terrorists beggars belief. While we're about it, how about turning off your caps lock? And come to think of it, your life support too! Cu*t!
  16. Suppose it does, although the question was rhetorical really. Misery? Not really.. I've had a laugh at some of the bites on this thread.
  17. I do know what that is, but no I didn't. It's a useful implement, I know... right click on it and choose "save as.."
  18. OK Lord Charles... you are'nt working as a double act. So be more specific. Why do you feel the need to answer on behalf of "the best oldies DJ in the land"? Not a plug, surely? And BTW, have you got something in your eye, or is a twitch?
  19. Nothing if it's in an "events lookback".
  20. Souldn't this be in the " Self-promotion and Egotism" section? Come to think of it though, so should many others!
  21. Very good point mate, but don't say it in East Anglia or Midlands! Kev is trying to warn you what you'll come up against: PS. Along the same lines what's with soul night promoters who hire a top all nighter DJ then put him on in in a poor time slot or only give him 45 minutes? Do they use the the big names to lure a captive audience to listen to their own pissy little collections? How about giving a top guest two hours and cutting out one of the four all-got-the-same-records locals?
