Now then Jim,it's been a while mate! Quite right re people questioning the authenticity of the record ... Martin did get one of the first copies of it but the first copy came in a consignement of around 2,000 - 45's that craig moerer sent to Browny when i was working there ,Craig put together the randomly pulled 45's from his stock (the lot would most probablyhave been brokered by Martin at the time) those were busy times at anglo and it was a few days before the boxes got opened .Anyways part way into sifting through Browny says "mmm dya know Dennis Edwards on Int... ? " of course at the time my answer was no he stuck both sides on and it knocked us sideways! It got played quite a few times in the warehouse that day during which time Browny shouting another T.B discovery..(at least he thinks he's discovered a soul record ah ) after listening and roughly dating the record our assumption was Edwards had to be with Motown at the time so rather a odd release.Other things in the lot were the Lonnie Lesters ,paramounts-magnum all in small quantities amongst others a nice little lot, infact i remember Browny calling Craig and being honest enough to mention the inclusion of the D.E letting him know it was a bit of something (maybe after he'd asked if he'd got anymore of it). Then Martin was sent the details and found it ,think it was on those Detroit tapes he did. There is quite a lot more to the story though i have included it in the record digging book.It is some years ago though Jim you got me questioning me memory... either way one of the best double siders to come along so late in the day and criminally one of the best double siders to never really take off.

This really is awfull news ,Hooked up with Tony on various trips stateside-most recent was around four years ago when Dick john came along too.Tony took the time out to spend most of the trip with us and run us around Chicago,it ended up being a fantastic time such a great laugh and i got us all into a guys place that was untouched we just split the 45's equally,Strangely enough i'm actually doing this story for the book, now. It's a shame your story isn't finnished really wanted you in it mate. One of the nicest and most passionate music guys i've met. My best wishes to all of Tony's family and friends at this sad time.

I will always be in debt to Gary for he gave me my first dj set when i was about 16 or 17 years old.I had gone to the white heart (thorne) soul nite with chris walker, chris introduced me to Gary and in passing said "you should let Andy play a set here" before i knew it i was to do the next date (i hadn't a clue how to dj) some things never change ! No sooner had Gary walked back to the door he'd floored two locals who it turns out refused to pay the door tax ! Soft as a brush yet hard as nails, few carry those two traits in life and maintain respect from everyone.. Mind you those two locals wanna thank their lucky stars Gary dealt with them and not Ronnie cos they would have known about it ! I'm upset you left without saying see you later, it will just have to be a little later than we thought mate. So Long Gary. x

Very interesting those statements Nev ,I'd be astounded if Jason would feel that way-are these his words ?I ain't in the habit of having to explain myself but for the likes of Nev who are it appears popsike reference and googleable reliant for anything soul a few pointers. Just as the 45 was starting to get some play Jason found a small quantity and offered them to me as he did with most of the black music 45's he was finding at the time.We had done scores of deals on some fantastic records, which as a rule were at Jason's asking price,if he was unsure i'd give my shop floor opinion. From memory i had around 12 copies possibly15 at the most J had the odd couple he held back maybe due to condition issues - he sent them in lots of 3-4 with some months inbetween the consignments (each person who bought one was told the crack with the quantities) To be quite frank what i paid for them is between me and Jason and i'm sure he will agree with that ,but lets say a tad under a grand ($'s) for the earlier ones then over a grand($'s) for the latter copies.I then sold/traded copies for whatever in my opinion was the going rate ,that rate increased a little because of demand rtc.. but only a fraction of what it goes for now. That's the bottom line,Jason aswell as other lads come to me because i ,can move the 45's and i pay them the money ,it's all based on trust and respect one would think ? certainly Jason is amongst the most trustworthy and honourable out there regardless if he feels duped! Infact duped is a great word..Literally ... Ady Potts promoted a soul event in L.A strangely the same week as Kev Roberts promotion cut a long story short during that week my mate Kev Murphy amongst others over heard Ady proudly spouting he'd found some of Andy Dyson's top U.S contacts and made it clear to them that i was some kind of gangster ,crook and not to be trusted... Ah that was nice of him ,funny really although rellevent to the above Hamilton Movement scenario because Jason was one of the guys he said this to ( i mailed Jason who confirmed the spouting, but of course he thought nothing of it ) but the odd one or two other guys have never been in touch since this spouting ,just goes to show what folk say about you when you're not there to speak up for yourself ! ah the strange world of soul records...

Bare with me mate ,i'll have to find the reel and box ,you're welcome to what ever info is on there - although it is song titles and names etc.. Like the photo !
-
A good mate of mine from the states recently sent me a reel ,which had the Delrick publishing sticker on it.The tape luckily was in good enough shape to convert, will have another listen but there is 2-3 bonnie brisker tracks ,very basic and unfinnished but fabulous also on the reel two or three timmy shaw unissued tracks great northern and a deep ballad. Some of the names Robb mentions above are written on the box with various other info.

Joan Duvalle - Love Is Like A Holiday (Hot)
Dysonsoul replied to Premium Stuff's topic in Look At Your Box
From memeory ,Mouse and John Britton had this first ,i remember them showing it to me -then i think Browny ended up with that copy ,i've had a couple ,may have kept one will check ,it's on the red label and sure it shares the same catalogue number ,certainly superior to the P.T version ,i dare say that version is a little rarer than folk think ,just no real demand maybe. -

Dysonsoul replied to a topic in Look At Your Box
It's funny cos i've never come across a issue of the Hayes 45,most of the 45's on the label i see are in the issue format. The Desires is nice (had to play it to myself ,ain't listened to it since i bought it).Re interest in europe, maybe most aren't aware of it - although i remember selling a spare to a German dj some years ago.Always thought Lee-Vester Hayes made a great cover up artist name..... -
Anybody Know Anything About This Lee Vester Hayes 45?
Dysonsoul replied to a topic in Look At Your Box
I have this 45 got it about 12 years ago,i can never quite decide what i make of it.. it certainly has something and presumebly pretty rare ! -
Quite right Steve , What a truly dynamic show from start to finnish-the local warm up band ( this term is a severe in justice) were great vocally and musically and put 90% of the live acts i've seen in the last five years to shame.I remember thinking Lee is gonna have to go some to top that ! Without a doubt both acts complemented each other perfectly Lee Fields is a rare throwback artist that gave us a rare insight into what it must have been like back in the day watching acts giving it their all for a chance at the mainstream arena.I like the uptempo, midtempo but especially the deep ballads which were absolutely perfect - certainly comparible to Little Charles Walker,Otis Clay,Hermon Hitson as a live act ,maybe only Wilson Pickett (in my experience) had that little extra something on stage ,but only just ! The Expressions backing him were proper good too,the kind of musicians a artist like Lee has to have. The room was reasonably busy ,but a artist like this deserves a lock out..there's thousands of folk in the north who it seems must be pretending to be into soul - because if they were into soul this is a dream come true and all for 20 quid and the price of a couple of gallons of diesel and two pints ! Couldn't help thinking a lot of people are very vocal and dedicated to artists getting their financial dues etc.. one would have thought more of them would have shown up ??
-
Likewise Cliff ,tea and biscuits at mine then off for the show ( mick h thinks it's west life we're going to see ) then it's off into Leeds for a rave !
-
Now then Waggy nice to see you're back in the fold ! Gosh you'll have to show me that list when i see you next - might bring back some memories and regrets ..
-
No Bob never had it or seen it ,infact strangely enough the only time anyone else mentioned this to me was when we met in Chicago some years ago i found the Combinations that trip also two days before we flew home ! Maybe a local urban myth the dreams ...
-
Yes good point one wonders ! Combinations and C.o.d's are just the tonic for our somewhat flagging upfront niter circuit (i know they're oldies in a way) but exciting tunes for sure.I really do need to own the C.o.d's but my bid fell short ,i remember having a pop at Browny's copy but out of my family man's range ... Not sure why the winning bidder has to time and time again run the gauntlet when he secures a high value 45 ? he goes to work ,earns his wages and spends some of it on vinyl like we all do !

Lee Fields And The Expressions - Glasgow 06th April
Dysonsoul commented on Tfk's article in Event News
Yes Cliff get yourself up mate call in at mine first ,there's a few of us going up ! -
Bloody heck mate ,i'd been told it was his right man - boob ! I really must research more thoroughly ... can you be the official proof reader .....
-
Thanks Nicola, yes it has been taking a little longer than one would have liked - but many reasons for that ... it certainly is happening - categorically , The cut off date is gonna 100 % be september this year - if it isn't in by then it won't make it ! I dare say there potentially is enough for two volumes of the original planned format and size but gonna re shape and size the whole thing to get every sentence included.I'll try collate a few sample paragrphs over the next few weeks, some reeal corking throwback stuff even from my early trips including a night out and dinner with some of Nicky Scarfo's lads ( who were genuinly into collecting music) in Philly .Will keep it all up to speed from now on.

Which Dj's On The Northern Soul Scene Have Got The Balance Right
Dysonsoul replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
Can i nominate mick h who balanced his big girth beautifuly on his crutch at grumpys soul, although his set was shite and unbalanced.. ah -
Ha Ha.Ho Ho, hope you got a good ,good memory..... Our Q.C who is rather brilliant, will pass on how i can post up my and many peoples concerns about some of your dealings with artists ,monies etc.. site note: post edited - comment removed by site as per terms of use

If the truth be know Linda it wasn't actually supposed to include you ... i know you're a sweetie ,it was more mace, begsy, ted and des - having said that when you say pay i pay !
-
It is a tricky one to deal with ,soul people are like any other folk and the odd time they step out of line - be it drinks on the floor ,domestic problems brought out with them etc.. drinkers are notoriously difficult to reason with regardless of the arena ! All a promoter can do is have at least two doormen who can motor a bit ,who understand the scene and pay attention to the front of house (of course finding security with a badge and ability is near on impossible) never the less punters safety is paramount so if you haven't got them forget about running events.I certainly wouldn't be happy if anything untoward happened to anyone at a venue i was involved with ,the cattle prod is perfect so long as both prongs hit home - seen some big lads fall when poked in the past.Best solution is to put Mace and the Bidds team on front of house - enough to frighten even the most dedicated soul fan off ...

John Anderson's Soul Junction Does It Again, Hopkins Bros
Dysonsoul replied to Dave Thorley's topic in All About the SOUL
How dare you uncover Mick H and Chalkys secret cover up artist.. there will be bad feeling .. besides Allan Coney and company hold all publishing and rights to them ! -
Very interesting and clarification from back in the day. Some years later when i worked with Browny and Martin Koppel at Anglo American circa 95 ,i'd managed to get the enormous amount of 45's in some sort of order- then Martin called up to let us know one of the containers would be arriving (took five of us all day to unload , while Browny sat on his arse in the office ! ) to cut a long story short in the load was what turned out to be one of the last good fill lots of 45's from Simon Soussan ,included were a hundred count of the Carstairs on w/d sterling stamped copies in the original Redd Coach printed box (which i've got somewhere ) empty obviously ,along with around ten other very good titles in similar quantity ie Buddy Conner "when you're alone",Little john "heartbreakin time ",one of the Gambrells 45's .I remember selling at least 4 or 5 copies every weekend when out and about at the time for around £50 -£60 a time if i remember correctly i can't remember the Carstairs coming along in sustancial quantities since then or did any before that on the sterling ones of course ?
