If i ever found a spare it'd be at least 2 grand just my opinion and the 2 folk who constantly pester to sell it em for at least that so on the strength of that and previous mails a grand + either way a very obscure and difficult record to find.
-
i got spares on both the red wheelsville's both minty if i remember rightly, they are odd releases only had em on the styrene format too..

Quite right i can confirm this, infact think i gave ralph a copy of the junior 45,like so many of these artists he had little or nothing from his past recording years,he lost nearly everything in a house fire some years ago.he's had more woman than you can shake a stick at so who knows one of his off spring may have done somehing... i kept a handfull of the junior 45 better wait till it's as expensive as the " leave" 45 before i sell em ! nah it's a lot more common than the other one one.infact you'll find you've more chance of finding a combinations on kimtone than the rarer rajac 45 ! quick story, last year when staying with the artists, hitson, roscoe robinson and ralph i told ralph what it was worth roughly - within 2 seconds he was ringing a old girlfriend from the time he released it and gave it her as a gift.talk about excitement ,she answered the fone unbelievably -what started off a nice calm call fruated into a you find it and send it to me...next call was to united pressing who he tried convincing the original plate stampers were his property and they must send em to him so he could repress, his credit ran out half way through the call ! about a hour afterwards when he calmed down and said how'dya like the states so i spent 15 minutes how i liked it medium with mushrooms etc.. he siad what you been on - i thought he'd said how dya like your steaks...it took his mind off rajac for a while...a great guy with a lot of musical talent to this day.

I'LL BRING THE T+T DOWN SATURDAY IF YOU STILL NEED IT ON G-M OF COURSE...

Regarding the ravins 45 i've known about it for a lot of years ,initially martin koppel but never had a sniff of it i got it around 6 years ago.it's funny cos i spoke to gilly about it in passing he'd never seen it or for that matter ever really looked for it even when he met dave hamilton and became good friends with him, other records were on the agenda ie james lately, tobi lark's etc.. tunes that were invogue at the time.i know he told me he left stuff at dave's (am sure if he'd seen the ravins there he'd have picked it up) so pretty sure it's a very hard record but more importantly a fabulous throwback 100 mile per hour dancer of the hey day years at their best ! browny only picked it up recently contrary to his light hearted jibes at me in manifesto stating he'd put me onto it.. can't help but like him... i'm sure there is the odd copies here and there but i only know about the ones mentioned earlier in the post, strange cos the others on the label are relatively easy to find.lastly all this is testament to the incredibly talented allrounder in dave hamilton !

WELL DONE BOB VERY INTERESTING - I THINK WE SPOKE BRIEFLY LAST YEAR ABOUT THIS LABEL - THE PUZZLE PEOPLE IS FANTASTIC BOTH SIDES , FUNNY THE STEELERS AS PLUMBY POINTED OUT WAS A LEVINE RAVE , I REMEMBER IT IN PARTICULAR WHILE DOWN AT IAN'S HOUSE HE THRUST SOME 20 RECORDS AT ME SAYING YOU WON'T AND CAN'T KNOW ANY OF THESE.. I JUST DISCOVERED THEM TOP OF THE PILE WAS STEELERS,WHICH I HAD HAD FOR SOME YEARS INFACT THERE WAS ONLY 1 RECORD I HADN'T GOT BUT NEVER THE LESS SUCH WAS IAN'S TRUE ENTHUSIASM FOR FRESH DISCOVERIES.... GREAT MEMORIES..

You seem to have a bee in your bonnet about big boys and cheque books, everybody has the same oppertunities in life, knowledge is a real hard road to follow and certain tunes in this day and age need to have some mystique to them ! nope i ain't miffed that the 45's details are known it's the way in which they have been brought to light and handed on a plate.A cutting edge dj's tools are his records if they get stolen or damaged he can't work bearing in mind the dj's play as a labour of love everytime. All are equal on this scene, whoever finds a great record deserves a pat on the back ,all this shite about artists not getting credited or payed is pants -the record came out in most cases flopped cos nobody bought it end of story..the recognition comes when it's played out at a venue covered up or not. nowadays the odds are stacked against keeping sounds sacred for niter spins, you know if certain people think balls to it and don't look for new stuff or play it out the future is bleak does make you wonder sometimes..
-
Firstly,no information is passed round the dj's or so called people in the know, the records are there to be found of course records like jerry williams ( not little jerry williams ) are a needle in a haystack which is the very reason for covering them up,when i say needle in a haystack i mean sourcing a a top notch unknown from scratch, whether it remains a " needle" only time can provide the answers.this record has been played on and off for quite a few years firstly by butch who i think i'm right in saying didn't really hammer it like some of his now classic plays, when i got a copy some 4-5 years ago i pushed it best i could and it started getting a decent flloor reaction but a touch disapointing when in reality i personally think it equals 99% of any of the top 500 of all time ,infact it's in my all time top 10 ! when browny put the sound clip up i told him it was a bad idea for this reason we have here - ain't it funny that hardly anyone gave a toss about the tune untill it was handed on a plate to them on a clip ? how many of the folk posting in or reading the thread have been to a venue where they can hear the 45 in real life ? benji - you know in relation to a point you made about uncovering 45's yes fine if you own it but not one of these leaches actually owns the record ! find your own records ! also trev you know rgarding belita woods / suprise - look what's happened to that now in public domain leaches again record it at a venue ,cut it and play it out .this destroys the very fabric of our niter scene causing a knock on effect in collecting ethics ( only my opinion of course ) . Fingers was nice to see you up at lifeline but you know blowing the paper cover off the the record on the decks wasn't a very inteligent move for sure .. that was a spare copy someone is buying ,they wanted to hear the sound quality because all the copies are pretty ropey condition . Only my own views of course no doubt others won't see it this way..

Gracious me rod i only just learned how to spell mazarati, let alone own one.. to me the litmus test for all record sales prices has to be the shop floor ( where i am).i actually wasn't aware symphonics was flavour of the month -like i mentioned i based the price on how often i've had it.to be honest i never really saw it kicking around when it was £25 10 years ago... As for experience you and mick have been dealing records at least 15 years longer than me so your views i respect.been thinkin i'd sooner have records than a mazarati every time !
-
Just for the record ,clara hardy i put on the list for someone and it sold, also the symphonics sold easily with 6 more people wanting it and offering more than the list price.so chalky didn't arrive at 150 for symphonics i did using my past experience of how many copies i'd had in the past -and it wasn't too many ! that is what the price was based on and of course 2 fantastic sides.think you'll find a few collectors short of this 45.imo
-
I'm sure someone found silus or a family member -in some home for the senile ! then there is of course the the other 45 by them on mello which few seem to have had. positively delaware valley- virtue recording.. according to a lady i spoke to years ago. but it'll probably stay a mystery untill browny learns about soul ....
-
not half mate both sides fabulous and he sang smf for us brits live , mr hitson sang yes you did .. aswell as the sweet rose stuff.. great night i must do some kind of review for it..
-
While i was in chicago for the recent soul event were i dj'd in support to ralph, hermon hitson, clarence reid and roscoe robinson.me and dickie john stayed in same apartment as ralph - i'm sure ralph won't mind me mentioning that he'd accumulated some motoring offences which he half expected a little time for- i can only assume this is the situation.i'll speak to john ciba who is ralph's friend and legal rep to confirm this.. also the set me free's were done by john for rabbit factory with ralph's blessing of course.. hope this helps.

" HAPPEN THEY WERE RIGHT ABOUT THIS KING MOSES 45,THE GUITAR BREAK IS A BIT ON THE HEAVY ROCK SIDE "

just to be clear on this there is no demise of lifeline ,we made the decision to hibernate from regular niters for specific reasons, first and foremost because of the amount of events clashing (it's a free country no one can stop any one holding a event of course ) secondly and more relevent to us events clashing with sme music policy .. ie burnley and united soul - do i really need to go through the obvious reasons ? jesus common sense, courtesy, maners ,respect also come into the frame.most folk struggle with 1 nighter never mind 2. of course numbers are up down and sideways for us like lots of venues, but far from critical -think lowest was 160 roughly.so you'll be relieved to know phill you ain't responsible for our so called demise.weekenders sold out and cos of demand our efforts are going into a second weekender .then that's us with no headaches over dates and politics -so everyone can sort there own problems out.it all comes out in the wash, cleansing time is due to commence.

well done mike a good thread that in reality will create more questions than it will answer imo of course . lots of points that do and don't make sense all matters of opinion.to me the bottom line is it's damn rude (someone else remarked earlier) to put a event on when another is already on (especially when the music policy is directed along the same tributary as the other) here's our reasoning in this particular instance-when our october date was booked no similar music policy event was booked, but now the same night is the united soul club -the night before is burnley amongst others like wolverhampton etc.. well done chaps ! rather thoughtfull and good manners to boot.. A couple of weeks ago i cast my mind back to what a old school doorman told me " stand here let em kick the shit out of each other, when they've done go show them the door " this is what'll happen with the soul nite/r scene i think.so mick and myself are gonna just run lifeline weekender and put the niters into hibernation for now,of course there's a method in our madness - well of course... I think the forward music policy line of the scene has been in a mess for a while, the future of our scene/s needs new stuff breaking by the likes of lifeline to feed through tunes to the stokes etc in 4-5 years time ! infact to be quite honest i don't see any other regular niter that employs dj's that actually has good solid upfront sets and have the balls to play em.. Let's not f*** about of course it's overkill ,sub standard nites and niters with sub standard dj's ,look at someof the venues sporting 3x' too many dj's (friends).the punters work hard for there money they certainly deserve a lot better than they are getting at the moment ! anyways i'm gonna play some tunes.

Firstly, when i said about " bitter pills " was mean't as a middle ground for both party's , both sides believe they're right , isn't there some room for resolve with both sides giving a bit of slack ! Not one for questioning anyone's integrity , even though stories have been swapped and changed. Spoke to mr coney who is in the process of either getting the video ( which is someone's private property so it's that persons call ) Or worst case scenario the phone number of doorman in charge on the night who will help all interested partys with whatever info they need. i'm afraid you lost me when you mention going to police ! certainly not in my dictionary , but hey why not if you'd like there help in the matter. hope this helps i've spent way too much time on this already,i like records that's what i like -finding records... good luck to all involved.

Can't help thinking this is miles away from the great music we all worship.. anyways Allan Coney asked me to pass on this info regards this threadhe's as good with P.C's as he is with woman... also he isn't a member on soul source. Sunday morning the head doorman at cleethorpes asked us if we could come out to door to put names to faces who had been in a incident, infact it was more so to try and mediate between the 2 party's involved and resolve the dispute peacefully.. fact is i know most of the people on the scene where as the door team really only know a handfull. the first words from mick (doorman) were dya know these people ? pointing to cafe to 2 men .i nodded -without mentioning any names , mick commented 1 gave him a hiding when he'd done the other man kicked him a couple of times. My initial response was are you sure ?they're usually ok guys ! Mick says we'll check the c.ctv in the morning At the end of the day tis is nobody else's business other than 2 party's involved,we have no problem whatsoever or past incidents with either party ! only problem we have is the lack of respect for fighting at soul events ( yes problems have to be resolved one way or the other but on neutral ground with a reforee if needed ) Back to video recording ,mick played film back with myself andy d and ben (doorman form sheffield) present . the tape showed a one on one with one of the guys ending up on the floor then taking a few kicks from a second male. now then this is a fact - some people seem to think a organisation like cleethorpes don't have camera's working ,just use your common sense here ,caravans ,children, shops - night club ,swimming pool how in god's name would they get public liability insurance etc.. without camera's and other security measure's ? i am a man of my word with no vested interest either way - but i've seen the film it DOES exist -do not question my integrity - believe me don't ! whatever the root of this problem -why not get together and resolve it amicably - even if both party's have to swallow a bitter pill. hope this helps .

I ASKED MR GARDNER SOME YEARS AGO IF HE WAS SHEP ( COS IT WAS ON MY PLAYLIST AND HAD BEEN FOR SOME YEARS FOR THE "SITTING IN " SIDE HE SAID HE COULDN'T REMEMBER THE RELEASE SO I PLAYED IT TO HIM AND HE SAID " WELL I'LL BE THAT'S ME SINGING FOR SURE" . BUT YOU NEVER KNOW I SUPPOSE IT WAS A LONG TIME AGO - BUT HE SEEMED A PRETTY SWITCHED ON KINDA GUY TO ME !
-
i got a spare of this , fantastic 45 every bit as good as aretha franklin... the flip is as good deep ballad as you can get... anyways got a minter at £25 incl post.

indeed mr dunn is imaculate in taste and one of the our soul music's unsung hero's ,mind you he's gonna be he 's read my book on soul music a thousand times .... well done pal !
-
really andy , what's the titles ? a pal of mine in u.s has full run on label or least he thought he had ! he's astounded.. had a quick check through my crow stuff difficult to remember cos file my stuff in alphanumerical by artist .. never the less came up with a handfull of alternative bits ie a couple by arthur ponder 1 solo and a duet with female couple of nancy butts a different james haviour... so seems to be a pretty consistant label musically anways. funny my pal who found me j.webster mentioned the first 2 45's he ever found on the logo were j.webster and exquisites a long ,long time ago...
-
same track mark, obviously a tad later than the before mentioned..
