BLOODY FANTASTIC BOB ,WHERE THE HELL DID YA FIND THAT PHOTO.....
-
Heads up me arse i mean't dewey black ,not dewey jeffries in this post....
-
Interesting topic potentially.. in m experience a few proven near on impossibles linda ballatine-bandit joe walker -nifty frankie lymon- big apple (certainly the tp group purists stateside will own it) but on the other label only had it the once and kept it) jeff lane -d-zero then you start going deeper and you start giving the game away... things like dewey jeffries are hard but a lower level in quality and rarity (sold 3 of it a few years ago) the other thing b o'b.. on same label i reckonis harder and better yellow label rather than black, sure i got the kimtone thing on 2 different label designs and had spares of both so again hard but note like the same league as earlier mentioned c.o.d's -she's fire.. or that defenders 45 that's about same tempo just a few years later when spun !
-
Bob , you know that artist rings a bell i don't have that dixon one on communication but feel i got something else by dixon early 70's,although the c/tion 1 i'm sure it's on a oriental want list from years ago.. would certainly be interested in hearing it though if possible -u know styles i like ! thanks for info .
-
Makes me relieved i bought 45's like the scream and communication releases as general soul many moons ago,the hot coke is a better 2 sider for me ! the spare communication 45 went to europe,a nice 45 -whether it's good enough to play out is another story ! bob because our scene and styles are complex that is probably why you don't get it on certain tunes and one of the few angles we can still get ahead buying from the states, unless you're on the shop floor at niters even if you live in the uk you'll never fully get it ...
-
I APPRECIATE THE WORDS FROM THE GOOD FOLK OF SOUL SOURCE THANKS ! IF I KNEW WHAT OFFICIANARDO MEAN'T I'D AGREE WITH THAT ALSO BAZ ..AH ... JESUS THAT FOTO IS BAD JOHN I MUST'VE BEEN LISTENING TO MICK H'S SET WHEN YOU TOOK THAT !
-
This is just a very small % of what we have to offer ,mother time is the factor but we'll keep on adding stuff all the time all feedback welcome positive or negative , more importantly than the sales stuff i want the site to be a informative platform for knowledge and the vemues and all things good about the scene so sit tight for scans and clips that you won't have seen before ... enjoy

JESUS H CHRIST YA MUST BE STARK RAVING MAD....
-
Absolutely disgusting situation, having said that records are hard to hide on this scene and hopefully they'll re-appear in some shape or form ! rewards aren't necessary kev i would have thought most of us on here would gladly help for the good of the scene .message me off line if you get a lead and we'll follow it up kev.

Proper exciting record, the very reason i got into this music and as ian says seriously hard on original only ever had 1 and kept it.. let's not forget the flip side a true deep soul masterpiece infact as good as the build side !
-
True steve, a few years after i found it -i played it brownie giving him part of the info and he mentions in passing a few tunes that he thought had what it takes ,i guess it was done inocently ! very well done chaps pats on the backs all round for your record sourcing skills you should be proud although have been playing it out 4 best part of 10 years. now then you've obviously got lots of time on yer hands try finding the 45 they did on it's sister label by same group although under a slightly different group name variation.. a corking double sider too ..good luck -the suprise 45 has a fantastic story to it which would have been nice to share ..but ....
-
Going back quite a few years i found the menzola and shortly afterwards got the timco 2 of -mick bought the menzola copy ,think browny had the timco copy (think this was his own label if i remember rightly) i just thought the record was nearly there but not quite right to play out.as to which is first not 100% but am sure there was a slight difference in mixes or something.. either way a very obscure record.

How Much Do We Think This Will End At?
Dysonsoul replied to Harry Crosby's topic in Look At Your Box
true you don't see too many demo's of brown's own releases, far as acetates go on king i got a small handfull of 10" with 4 tracks on each one is vicki anderson , roberta dubois is another am sure there's a big funk one ,can't bleeding remember artist it came out twice anyways once as a 3 track 7" and as a 2 track 7" vinyl but the metal one i got is slightly different will have to find it .also got the odd test presses but for the huge output the label had you're right don't see too many, assume they're in the archive.. the more i listen to the dupree thing am sure it's same guy ! -

bob ,my theories are just that theories on listening to the 3 -45's the similarity is uncanny, also the guy who i got the 45 from some years ago from cleveland actually made a point of mailing me and pointing out it was the sme artist ,never the less i'll go with your hard facts and dates untill it's confimed either way.. certainly would be nice to know the whole story and you're certainly as good as anyone at sourceing info like this ! -

on listening to the dupree 45 i'd be astounded if it isn't the self and same vocalist i just double checked the 2 king ones against the dupree release.. the flip to try me as gareth points out is fantastic indeed.. -

bob ,far as i know you're right with the connection.it is the same junior mccants + the harmonics on the track summers love on the dupree logo wich is of course a cleveland ohio label.lemme know if you need any more info . -
I know your basic idea's are for the good of the scene ,probably best ways to get up and comers is at weekenders like cleethorpes etc.. in the small rooms and let em loose infact adey does just this and at lifeline we do in the daytime sessions, but it has to be took on board as a promoter there is a element of aprehension in giving someone with little experience a peak time set cos a hour is a long time up there if things start to go pear shaped the net result can be the ruining of a whole night (folk seem to remember the bad rather than the positives ! All that said really dj'ing is a thankless task with very little if any rewards, infact as many of these threads prove you put yourself right in the firing line whatever decisions you make .let's not forget though the true characters have a hard shell and have the experience and balls to shake it off and stand proud.. and also have the foresight to realise that if they're not cutting the mustard step down.

Jesus christ you open a thread titled top dj or flop dj , you then gotta expect top names to be mentioned in the equation, see i don't hero worship or use the words prima -donna's or priveliged, before i wrote the reply i tried to think of other names to use as examples of top dj's -well whadya know i couldn't think of any who really match the criterea.you mention about having the big records -anyone worth there salt makes records big not buys big records,on a tangeant when i first played robert tanner 1 person danced ' arthur fenn' cos he'd heard it before,it took nearly 5 years to break that record, even the bolita woods c/up took a fair old time with a few of us playing it. there's nothing priveliged about ownership of certain playbox's that's a insult to any dj and as for saying leftovers ..everyone has arms ,legs and eyes to go and look for records don't they ? of course no one owns our scene agreed, you mention chosen few ,well aren't they chosen by the promoters to give the paying customer value for money instead of being short changed by sub standard dj's who can't dj ? all this said i do know where you are coming from in a way with your original idea and agree.. so instead of faffing about let's see what most people are wanting to see - who's the prima-donnas and god's - name em and who you gonna replace em with -name em and why.
-
This competition idea is bananas it just ain't remotely possible.like has been said before too many styles and genres.. for arguments sake oldies dj'ing lets be honest it's a piece of piss basically anyone can do it providing they have a decent box of tunes, surely this has gotta be the first step on the ladder for anyone wanting to start dj'ing ? would have thought most of big current players have taken this route. the most difficult arena to perform has gotta be the cutting edge one ( well what's left of it) some good names been put forward to enter the arena'S but let's target the cutting edge one.all candidates need to sit down and think how many records have i discovered ? how many of them have i broke , how many of them stand the test of time ? these are just a few of the criterea that have to be met to get respect and sets.the likes of sam and butch are there cos they've earned it through hard graft and motivation year after year.there has gotta be room for up and coming lads it just ain't over night.having said that this yearning to be a dj by so many is one of the major factors of the negativity the scene is harnesing at the moment - wanna dj - set me own doo up ! ......
-
darren i'd be most interested in hearing what these lads have to offer, irrespective of what any other folk think.by all means send me a message on here or off forum if they're as good as you say i'll stick em on at lifeline next year guarenteed.lemme know.
-
I can certainly have a wild guess.. of course MIDDLETON ain't on the list ,mm suprise, suprise for good reason see when you book friends of friends and favours for favours, you do my venue and i'll do yours.. you're gonna get dj's playing boots ! (in all fairness the r+b lads downstairs are a credit to the scene and play originals). It also is advantageous if the promotor can distinguish a soul record from the suit cases he seems to always have under his arms.. call it elite call it what you want, but choice of dj is of optimum importance , certainly they have to play the real thing in the upfront subsidery of the scene..

QUITE RIGHT SEAN,LET'S BE A TOUCH SIMPLISTIC THERE IS ONLY ONE PERSON THAT SOUNDS ANYTHING LIKE TOMMY TATE...
-
If i ever found a spare it'd be at least 2 grand just my opinion and the 2 folk who constantly pester to sell it em for at least that so on the strength of that and previous mails a grand + either way a very obscure and difficult record to find.
