  1. The thread has been fun though. Like trying to unmask a super-injunction holder.
  2. Bunky Sheppard (Shepherd)
  3. Yeh, they say you can't see the constellation when the weather's bad, but that's a load of bunk Alan
  4. Hi, I listen to your stuff all the time, and it's just fantastic that you you've joined here. Alan
  5. One of my favourites that I've framed is The Impressions - Big Sixteen Vol. 2. Alan
  6. Interesting indeed, I like the Olympics version a lot. It didn't get any other UK release did it? I guess it would be quite hard to track down, as many people who list Jayboy 56 for sale might not bother listening to the flip. As I recollect, the sound on "Secret Agents" is really poor. Alan
  7. That's great. Well spotted! Alan
  8. Bad, Bad Whisky is one of my favourites. Deserves to get club plays.
  9. This is maddening! My sympathies. Even if he got to find out the collector's value of the records, it could be awkward to sell them. A general second hand shop wouldn't pay much. Ebay or a main dealer, surely too much chance of being detected. Likewise trying to pass on in the fairly small world of Scottish soul-collecting. How about focussing on trying to locate him, say by a local advert offering small reward, or using social networking sites, or by using a debtor tracing agency. I think you could get a trace attempt for a modest fee, possibly on a no-find no-fee basis. Good luck. Alan
  10. Ha, great how a thread can lie dormant for over 3 years then suddenly spring into life! Anyway, my first Motown record (and first soul record) was the Isley Brothers - This Old Heart Of Mine TMG 555. Alan
  11. Coincidentally there was a copy listed here on SS just a few days ago, now sold and the price no longer shown. The backing always reminds me of Royal Jokers - Love Games A-Z. Alan
  12. Buddy & Stacey - Angel on Twirl has the same melody, but different lyrics. Done a bit slower (and better IMO) than John Parker. Alan
  13. Amazing, the change in style in what I think was just 4 years between them. Alan
  14. I really enjoyed reading these lists. A record that I always liked but didn't see listed was The Prophets - I Got The Fever - was that a Wheel record or later? thanks Alan
  15. Well done, I really enjoyed this. "She's called a woman" has always been one of my particular favourites. Alan
  16. H&M is one of mine too, bought it cause it was on a UK label. Had heard it before from a tape but it sounded crap at home and never listened to it since. A "dont believe what you read in fanzines" purchase for me was Eydie Gorme - Everybody Go Home. Alan
  17. I didn't think this was issued with a pic sleeve in the States. Was Deep Dark Secret (rather than Good) featured as the main track on the sleeve? If so I'd reckon it was a a recent(ish) boot. Alan
  18. More pop (Pocorn even) but pretty good if you like that kind of thing. Alan
  19. It isn't Ray Jiminez, thanks. The style of the record in question - vocals and instrumentally - reminds me of True Lovers by the Four Chaps, but this one is faster, more Northern. Another clue is near the start the singer exclaims "Oh Lawdy", which would be ok in a gospel/soul record but sounds out of place on this one. Alan
  20. Hi, could anyone tell me the artist and label for a song that goes something like "There she goes again, I'm gonna stop her in her tracks". It's a male lead vocal with male backing, quite sparse, possibly a blue-eyed/ garage record. Thanks Alan
  21. Ah ha! Thanks Alan
  22. I got Morris King's - Broadway Time around a year ago and it's driving me mad trying to remember what other record sounds like a proper vocal to it. I think it's by someone like Johnny Sayles or Harrold Burrage but I've checked all their records I can find and can't identify it. Can someone tell me? thanks Alan
  23. I see that Made In Dagenham took 10 times as much in its first week but that was launched on over 300 cinemas and was trailered on these screens. Judging from its trailer it seems to have a similar retro/light comedy feel to Soulboy - bigger budget but not as much fun. There's no way a small independent was going to make much from art house and scattered screenings. Ironically Soulboy the movie has turned out to be successful just in an underground way, bit like the scene itself! I hope a TV screening and DVD sales help it break even. Alan
  24. I feel likewise in these situations, especially when there's a big gap between my 2nd place bid and a low 3rd place bid. Then I think the winner must be cursing me but the seller will be grateful. Alan
  25. Surely the review ratings on here are just about personal enjoyment from a soul-fan perspective, not about how Soulboy compares against Citizen Kane or Battleship Potemkin. Alan
