Donna Loren 1965 : Her Next Northern Biggie
If that's her next Northern biggie, I'm sure glad I'm not wasting time and money travelling to venues. Dreadful, schmaltzy dreck. Truly pants.

Am I Alone In Thinking The Jam Were Poor?
Superb. This thread, or similar, comes around at least once a year on this site and ALWAYS gets people going. I said it last time and the time before that and the time before that........ All you people who say Paul Weller and the Jam have nothing to do with Northern Soul are deceiving yourselves. The very fact that this thread keeps cropping up speaks volumes. The truth is, a great deal of people who got into soul would not have even heard of it if it hadn't been for the Jam, the Mod scene, the scooter scene and so on. Also, anyone who says the Jam are poor, or "OK" doesn't have a clue about music. I'm not saying you have to like them but their mark is there for all to see and hear. I'm not keen on Mozart, but I'm intelligent enough to acknowledge his influence.

I was told some time ago that it was because he used to wear a belt in the 70s with a buckle that had BUTCH written on it.

Talc On Dancefloor - Serious Situation
Mark I'm not a lawyer, but I have had a lot of exposure to contract and liability matters. Observations:- 1. never admit liability or indicate any admission of liability 2. the club should be covered under their public liability insurance which should automatically cover you as part of your contract of hire with them - was there a signed hire agreement or a standard terms and conditions issued to you? 3. it could well be that the insurers might then be able to pursue a negligence claim against you, but that is up to them to prove negligence on your part 4. if your friend is used to going to soul nights and aware that talc is used on dancefloors, then they could be held to have contributed to the negligence by not taking care on the dancefloor 5. Ady Croasdell had this problem a few years back at the 100 Club - might be worth talking to him Hope it gets sorted mate. Best. Mark White

- Under-played, Under-rated Motown
Awful lot of overplayed, overrated Motown too frankly. Anyone who's ever spent an afternoon or a long car ride with Simon Green from Swindon will know what I mean!!- The Worst Record Ever Played By Soul Sam
Happy Cats - These Boots Are MAde For Walking????!!!!!!- September Jones 45s French Sensation
Very definitely regular Dome spins for Flynny. Both sounded great played out.- Tributes To Nige Shaw
It was indeed a remarkable day yesterday. But then Nigel was a remarkable person, he has literally proved to be larger than life! He will have been chuffed to bits at the turn out and the send off he's had. His family could see how much he is loved and I believe they will take comfort from that fact. Rest in peace my friend.- Sad News Nige Shaw RIP was: Well Known Soul Sourcer Not To Well
Nice one Sean.- Heard The Rumours
- Deon Jackson On Carla
Spot on Sean!! What a cracking tune and one of my all time favourites. Used to plug it myself and always had people coming up to see what it was.- Sad News Nige Shaw RIP was: Well Known Soul Sourcer Not To Well
Taken me a while to summon it up to post something on here. Not all of you know me as I haven't been active on the scene for some time. But Nige was a true close friend and our friendship was deep - we looked out for each other. I can't believe he's gone. The sheer volume of tributes and the kind words on here say it all. He brightened the place up with his enthusiasm and optimism, not to mention those effing shirts!!! But behind that cheeky smile, the wise cracks, the appalling one-liners and dirty chat-up lines, there was a very wise, caring man - a loyal friend. And then, for good measure, he had a cracking ear for a tune! I'm so gonna miss him. You can enjoy the football now with the little fella. He's looking after you now Buddy. See you. Del Counts - With Another Guy- Soul Stars You Met
Smokey Robinson played St Davids Hall, Cardiff in October 1992. Got back stage to meet him. A real gentleman, meeting and greeting a queue of about 30 people, signing his book, chatting. Totally awesome to be shaking hands with and standing in front of a true musical legend and one of the biggest singer-songwriters of all time. Wow!!- Who Introduced You To Soul And Are They Still Around?
Hi Lucy - thanks for the kind words (as well as those from Messrs Bicknell and Page!! Thanks guys - miss ya). Remember you well Lucy and your appearance on Whistle Test - LOL!! Fellow called Mark Readman got me into it. No idea what he's up to now or whether he's alive. Anyone know?- Adorables-ooh Boy-golden World
TWO HUNDRED POUNDS!!!! WHAT????!!! When did this become a money item? Wish I'd kept that £1 Soul Bowl copy. - Under-played, Under-rated Motown
