Strangely don't remember this one from the Dome - we are talking Greg/Flynny era I presume? Certainly the type of sound which would have been played there. I think it's great stuff myself.

A couple more items to go - soundclips not from the records for sale: #1. Vala-quons - "Window Shopping On Girls Avenue" (Tangerine WD) - £40 (brilliantly cool, Big City, male harmony dancer - some surface marks and a bit of label ringwear) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrlXEaX3W-A #2. Mel & Tim - eponymous album including the fantastic "Forever And A Day" (Stax) - £20 (absolute bargain at this price for a really nice album and a cheap way of having "Forever" - record is in decent nick; sleeve is good enough - corners are a bit worn) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RJEzj4pFEE These are still around from yesterday's batch, some reduced: Mixed bag of sales all in decent enough shape (i.e. Ex condition with no more than light surface marks unless stated). Paypal preferred (as a gift) but direct bank transfers, cheques and cash accepted too. Happy to do deals on multiple purchases (said more in hope than expectation). Soundclips are NOT the actual records - anybody unhappy with a purchase once received can return it to me for refund. Standard 1st class postage costs within the UK absorbed in the prices quoted but if you are outside the UK or want recorded etc, that will have to be extra. Ways, here we go: #2. Blood Hollins - "Don't Give It Up" (Strange Fruit) - (£20) now £15 (70s dancer - books at a good deal more) #3. Bob Smith & The Boo-Kou's - "What Do It Mean" (Boo-Kou) - (£25) now £20 (funky sound - lot of interest in this when I have posted it before but no-one has ever actually paid for it....DOH!! Has rather more in the way of surface marks but nothing that affects play) #4. The Measures - "Girls Are Evil" (Despenza) - (£20) now £15 (bit of a curiosity this one but a proper dancer - no soundclip I'm afraid) #5. Bobby Brooks - "Wise Like Solomon" (Hit) - (£30) now £20 (big popcorn tune apparently) #6. Viola Wills - "I Got Love" (UK President) - (£25) now £20 (storming classic - my copy is better looking than the soundclip - no writing or stickers) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av1OeDtOG8U #7. Little Sherman & The Mod Swingers - "The Price Of Love" (ABC) - (£25) now £20 (brilliant record - nice copy for sale in really good nick) #8. The Shirelles - "Look Away" (Scepter) - (£25) now £20 (nice, moody mid-tempo - company sleeve too, like the soundclip, and really good nick) #9. Janie Welsh - "I Can't Stop Thinking 'Bout You" (GDC) - £10 (lovely mid-tempo floater) #10. Vi Campbell - "Seven Doors" (Peacock) - (£20) now £15 (R&B classic - bargain price) https://soundcloud.com/interliner/vi-campbell-seven-doors #12. Martha Jean Love - "How To Suceed In Love" (ABC demo) - (£25) now £20 (brilliant 60s - bargain price) #13. Margaret Williams - "Baby Please" (Downey - demo) - (£20) now £15 (storming 60s, produced/written by Barry White - scuffs look a bit heavy but plays sound enough) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xr1N5sZnnbM #14. Earl Lewis & The Channels - "She Blew My Mind" (Rare Bird) - (£20) now £15 (superb funky dancer) https://www.spinthegroove.com/2010/08/earl-lewis-channels-she-blew-my-mind.html #15. Jerry Washington - "Set Your Soul On Fire / Let Me Get Close To You" - (£25) now £20 (both sides getting attention) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMbh4Oqualw #17. Newby & Johnson - "I Want To Give You My Everything / Sweet Happiness" (UK Mercury) - (£15) now £10 (IWTGYME is a really nice crossover sound - I understand SH got Wigan plays - it's got that sound) #18. The Values - "Return To Me" (Invicta) - (£30) now £25 (really nice mid-tempo atmospheric beat ballad apparently getting attention - £100 on Pat Brady's site - record is probably VG/VG+ and plays absolutely fine with a few small pops in its quieter moments, label is nice) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLaYqkgTghs Thanks for looking. All the best for 2012. Mark

Hi All - hope you all had a great Xmas. Mixed bag of sales all in decent enough shape (i.e. Ex condition with no more than light surface marks unless stated). Anthony C Renfro - "I'm Scheming" (Renfro) - £30 (alternative version of the Carl Henderson classic, same backing - no soundclip I'm afraid) #2. Blood Hollins - "Don't Give It Up" (Strange Fruit) - £20 (storming 70s dancer - books at a good deal more) #3. Bob Smith & The Boo-Kou's - "What Do It Mean" (Boo-Kou) - £25 (funky sound - lot of interest in this when I have posted it before, but no-one has ever actually paid for it....DOH!! This was done for a programme called, if I recall, 'Something Else' which was aired around 1980 I think. The series was one of those 'we want TV for the yoof made by the yoof' type of things which started to get popular back then. Something Else was presented each week by kids from different towns across the UK. This one was done by some folk from Skelmersdale. As I recall, it was introduced by one of the lads saying something like "they wouldn't let us film at Wigan Casino of a night time but we wanted to show you what Northern Soul is all about anyway" - cut to footage of buses and coaches and a soundtrack of Isaac Hayes 'Disco Connection'.

At the time this thread was started, I would have been playing the Embers 'Crazy About You Baby' (as it had come through the post a day or 2 before and has been sitting on the deck since) whilst we finished getting ready to go out and see my lad's band play - shameless plug once again for Dirty Revolution - https://www.myspace.com/dirtyrevolution Right now, I am listening to Dave Pinch's post of Sonny Til's 'Gave It All Up'. Great post - thanks!

Burning Bush - Contact pressing and Tony Middleton - Eric pressing. Think they were 50p each at Yate. Pleased as punch I was and thought I was so cool to have them. -
PM'd you.

This is that short film 'Function At The Junction'. Nothing to do with the Elaine C project.

Markw replied to Marktsoulman's topic in Record Sales
Any chance of a sound clip of that Soul Brothers? -
Any chance of a clip?
-
Agree. And were I considering making an offer for this record, no way in the world would I wish to offer anywhere near £300 when the damage to the label has not been quantified.

Michael Japps: Welsh Man Who Wrote For Motown ?
Markw replied to Mal C's topic in All About the SOUL
'Mike' is the new 'Dai' here in Wales Malc. Didn't you know Mike Wilkes changed his name by deedpoll? He was actually born Dafydd Arwel Wyn Calvin Hughes Roberts Williams-Jones........innit butt, O! What's occurring? (which reminds me - I've just seen Rob Brydon doing a book signing at Waterstones here in Cardiff when I nipped out to Greggs. Tidy, like) -
Great record. Surprised to hear the scooter scene is pciking up on it and if so, fair play or as they say in Wales 'cwarae teg'!.

Which Northern Record Do You Want Played At Your Funeral?
Markw replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
R Dean Taylor - There's A Ghost In My House.......................on the R.I.P. label. -
With the concensus here. Del Larks and Don Varner for me too. Like others have said, it's not to say Spyder Turner and the Lovemasters are not great records in themselves but the other 2 both have something unusual and utterly distinctive about them. It's not their rarity that makes them desirable (or at least shouldn't be).
-
Issues are much much harder than demos, though I wasn't aware there was a brown label as well as a blue one. The demo currently on Ebay has been reduced I think from a previous listing with a start asking bid of USD2999. Crikey!!

Indeed. -
Has been seen for more. But £50-£70 seems to be the money.
