  1. dear Bexter/George Clooney - thanks for the reply. i'm still none the wiser - you'll really need to spell this one out in the most simplistic way. robbed face to face? is it having something pinched from under your nose? ah you english and your colloquialisms
  2. what does 'rolled' mean?
  3. ah right - now i get it (well - no i dont really). thanks kolla - i think your explanation sums it up nicely. crossover - it all those tunes that make me feel like my head's been crushed..that sinking feeling i get when i hear a record that doesnt go stomp stomp stomp sing sing sing bash bash bash.....the mystery is solved!
  4. thanks mikey. now can someone PLEASE explain to me what the hell crossover is. i still cant figure it out....
  5. can i ask what the music policy is in valatone? 60s/70s/everything? hoping to make it over in november... thanks
  6. i'd ask john dunne & danny duggan to play 60s sets. they both dj at sleepless nights, our local in dublin. i'd ask pip to play sometime before 12pm otherwise he would be too sledged to figure out which side of a record he was meant to play. it might seem a bit pointless asking 'local' djs to play when i could have my imaginary pick of any dj in the whole world of soul but those guys always play the tunes that make me happy & have no problems with drunken tomfoolery so that makes them tops! no disrespect intended to all the great djs out there.....i suppose i shouldve included more djs cuz danny & john would be quite tired if they had to dj for 7 or 8 hours hahaha. am i the only person that never has a clue who's djing at any given time during a night out?
  7. can someone please tell me what does funk dancing look like? i've only seen club scenes from blaxploitation films but i guess that's not what's going on now. is it demented? as the beats are sort of more sophisticated i just wonder how tricky it is. sorry if that seems like an odd question ta
  8. sorry that's part of the deal with northern though isnt it - you cant keep everyone happy
  9. another consideration is that not every northern soul fan lives in england & auction sites & lists can be the only way to get hold of those records.....
  10. no disrespect JOT but it was the most memorable moment cuz it was early in the night & it is an astonishingly good tune & it really kicked off the party... i dont think people were talking about the record as such, just the buzz it created, it coulda been any record, the dj was doing his job, read the crowd n dropped the right tune ...later on around 4 someone played an incredible rnb song which i didnt get the name of...but those that knew it were beaming when they heard it...maybe noone here mentioned it & i wish i knew what it was..... the point being...you can get quality oldies & newies on the same night. are things really that bad or are you just being grumpy
  11. with all this rnb going round it's probably only a matter of time before 78s become marginally more popular
  12. hey kolla r.e. the orchids - is Soldier boy the same tune as sung by The Shirelles? i love oo-chang-a-lang but missed out on What More Do You Want. must go look for a copy - is it more Shel Talmy produced echo-y sludge madness? wendy
  13. yay! 100 club! wahoo!!! cant wait!

  15. hi john last i heard of dimitri from paris he was doing a sort of electronic lounge music, with samples from breakfast at tiffanys etc. it was sort of like Pizzicato 5 only more, err, french. has he gone a bit heavier? i guess it was about 7 years ago when his first lp came out n & i havent kept up with what he's up to now.....
  16. thanks dan - i honestly didnt know that, which is why i asked the question. so now i have an answer. except i still have a massive question mark hanging over my head as i dont understand why all this happened....
  17. not good pop?! but they were no. 1 & on Top of The Pops - the barometer of all things pop (before CD:UK came along that is) of course i would have you believe that there is no such thing as bad pop music......

  20. hey all can i ask what seems to me an obvious question? isnt bootlegging illegal? so why cant this matter be taken to the attention of the police? piracy is theft after all. apologies if i am being naive.......
  21. hey paul i still aint a groover. thanks for the offer of a cd. much appreciated. would be delighted to hear anything with a heavy bassline & decent beats. just nothing with polish/class . ta for tip r.e. Special Delivery. hopefully I will hear it in John's set soon at Sleepless thanks w
