In about a months time, I'm gonna be heading off on my Euro DJ Tour 2015. I'll be posting all the details soon in the next coupla weeks....but f'now.....here's a mix I recorded 10 years ago, just before my move to California. A selection of killer cuts striding several genres that I was DJ'ing in and around London in 2005.....so not just soul events, but anywhere else that decided to give me some airtime. Hopefully you'll get to hear what's in the playbox this time around....would love to see ya at the club! https://www.mixcloud.com/gregbelson/london-funk-soul-45s-2005/

Wanda Mcdaniel - Gangster Boy - Repress ?
Greg Belson replied to Tolbert's topic in Look At Your Box
This is a boot....AOE/Fryer has a legitimate reissue slated for release soon, and from what I could see on facebook, served notice to the bootlegger to remove this item from sale. -
Ummm, 'Unknown & unlisted, possibly only known copy'??? Somebody isn't doing very much research and blurting out false sales pitches. Hear it here, track 19, from DCGS pt. 42. https://www.mixcloud.com/gregbelson/divine-chord-gospel-show-pt-42-xmas-edition-2014/

A copy spiked on ebay not so long ago around the $80 mark, and I thought that was steep. I like it.....nice little stepper. That said, it's a $20 record on a sizable label. A 500 quid price tag is insanity.

Oh my.....2015 is turning into one of the worst years....I just don't understand it! Whilst I didn't know Helena well, I remember hanging out with her a coupla years ago in Manchester for the weekender as well as a great Friday session at the Dulcimer just up the road. She was so full of enthusiasm, and clearly enjoyed this thing called 'soul'....when Helena played, you could tell every single record was borne out of a taste she'd nurtured, and not just picked up an expensive 45 because it was flavour of the month. My heart goes out to all her family and to those that knew her. R.I.P. soulful lady. Here was one of her plays at the Manchester weekend, which saw her dancing away behind the turntables.

Here's the 46th installment of The Divine Chord Gospel Show which appears monthly on dublab.com, originally broadcast on 22nd April 2015. https://www.mixcloud.com/gregbelson/divine-chord-gospel-show-pt-46/ Kicking off this session with an immaculate cut from the Como Mama's & the Daptone stable, and then keeping it locked to a midtempo selection this month. Then we turn up the heat before ending the section with the worldwide broadcast premiere of the gospel funk soon-to-be-killer 'Hold on' acetate. Pt. 2 is a shortened section, but features stunning cuts out of Ohio from the Sensational Saints, as well as sublime vocal performances from the Faithful Harmonizers. To close out this show, we head to crossover modern soul territory, with first class offerings from Rev. T.L. Barrett & Lem McCall. The Supreme Jubilees has another cut from their grail LP featured & the Motivations 'Get ready' gets a spin thanks to a Samuel Hugosson discovery. Sublime tracks for your dancefloor. Feel free to join the facebook group 'The Divine Chord Gospel Show'!

A whole bunch of rarities that have never been played on the show before (as is customary here at DCGS HQ)....and this month we'll dabble into modern soul territory. Plus also we'll have a stack of deepness, and solid funk for your ears.....and your feet too, should the mood strike you. Tune in and join us for an hour of the good stuff. If you missed the last show here's the archived mixcloud link; https://www.mixcloud.com/gregbelson/divine-chord-gospel-show-pt-45/ Also, please feel free to explore and subscribe to our youtube channel featuring some of the choicest 45's to be played on the show. Subscribe here; https://www.youtube.com/user/DivineChordGospel/videos?flow=grid&view=0 And for this month's 45's of Fury, we welcome to the turntables one of LA's upcoming starlets. Lady Celeste has been DJ'ing around town at various promotions, bringing her brand of modern soul, r&b and liberal dose of raw funk. All played from original 45 rpm pressings, of course! Not happy with just lining her record box with the staple soul and Motown sounds that can be found in so many clubs these, hers is a taste that likes to dig a little deeper.......just how we like it. Tune in for an hour of boss cuts selected from Celeste's playbox, ably assisted and hosted by DJ Greg Belson. Cheers and see you there!

John Manship Auction Results 15-4-2015
Greg Belson replied to JOE TORQUAY's topic in Look At Your Box
824 quid for the B.J. Stanton???? Somebody's either been taking crazy pills or hasn't done their homework before bidding. Sold for $200 on the open market a coupla months ago, and before that a few times for less than $30.....needless cash throwing.....just do some research! -
In light of the recent 20th Anniversary of the legendary 'Deep Funk' club sessions (FYI 27th January 1995 to 2015), I figured I'd play a set of records to celebrate some of the tunes played, from the first coupla DF nights.....which then morphed into playing some of the killer 'new music' that was played towards the end of the night's tenure. The crowd at Funky Sole in Los Angeles is excellent and varied, from older folk to breakdancers, to those that just wanna dance.....so a set that switched it up from King Midas to the likes of The Bamboos, Sharon Jones & Speedometer, worked out nicely. Mostly uptempo, and I think it was a decent snapshot of the early days of Deep Funk, to those latter day 'nu-funk' spins. Funky Sole ‘Deep Funk’ tribute mix by DJ Greg Belson Shelley Fisher ‘I’ll leave you girl’ (Kapp) Eddie Bo & Inez Cheatham ‘Lover & a friend’ (Seven B) Winfield Parker ‘Shake that thing’ (Arctic) Bill Butter Ball’ Crane ‘Stepin’ tall pt. 2’ (Key) King Midas and the Muflers ‘Tramp’ (Kanwic) Quantic Soul Orchestra ‘Pushing on’ (Tru Thoughts) Third Guitar ‘Baby don’t cry’ (Rojac) Speedometer ‘Work it out’ (Freestyle) M&S Band ‘Egg roll’ (Funk45) Carleen & the Groovers ‘Can we rap’ (CJB) The Sound Stylistics ‘The players theme’ (Bruton) Mary Jane Hooper ‘I’ve got what you need’ (Power-Pac) Billy Garner ‘Brand new girl’ (BGP) The Golden Toadstools ‘Silly savage’ (Minaret) Speedometer feat. The Speedettes ‘Wait up’ (Kennel Klub) Joseph Henry ‘Who’s the king? (you know that’s me’ (Desco) Naomi Davis & the Knights of Forty First Street ‘Forty first street breakdowne’ (Desco) Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings ‘What have you done for me lately?’ (Daptone) Herb Johnson ‘Make you wanna holler’ (Timmion) The Bamboo’s ‘Eel oil’ (Bamboo Shack) The Soul Toranodoes ‘Hot pants breakdown’ (Magic City) Leonard King & the Soul Messengers ‘The Barracuda’ (Inferno) Brenda George ‘I can’t stand it (I can’t take no more)’ (Kent)

TCS was Tony Carters own label, out of Philly as previously mentioned. He owned his own publishing and management company 'Tony Carter Enterprises' and kept it heavily within the family, working with other Carter's Clyde and Gwen. The label was active from around 1972 but I'm unsure as to when the label dissolved.......this was one of the first released, I think. There's a couple of LP's released on TCS that appeared 'round about 1977, so they had at least 5 years history behind them.
