Liverpool had at least two 'Mod' clubs in the mid to late sixties, the Sink Club & the Mardi-Gras. Billy Butler (Radio City DJ) played in both, he had one of the best UK Sixties Soul collection I have ever seen. Mohair Suits with big vents were in, along with 'Comos' (shoes) but the prefered denim brand was Wrangler, as opposed to Lee & Levis elsewhere in the Northwest. The Twisted Wheel (Manchester) during this period had a big Merseyside contingent in its ranks. The early Liverpool Soul scene dissapeared in the early seventies, as the newly titled Northern Soul scene went underground, and people turned to funk, & modern. Regards Ricardo.

Sad news indeed.............another 'Character' lost. Rest in Peace Martin, you will be missed. Ricardo.

Hi Pete, Any record played on 'that thing' was ruined after a few plays. I sold the Discatron to Nick Lyde, and kept the John Drevars until it went big @ the 100 Club then sold it. Nick and I also got a lot more good records (and another Discatron but the later type) from Eddies, prior to his heart transplant. I wish the shop was still there. Regards Ritchie.
-
Got a John Drevars Expression - The closer she gets - M.G. M. issue in mint condition, for 10P in the mid seventies from 'Eddies odds and ends' on Wellington road in Rhyl. Also an early Discatron for a couple of quid from the same shop. Ricardo.

The first big Mecca record by Candi Staton was 'Now you've got the upper hand'. Used to do both venues in one night, & buy records @ the Mecca then sell them @ 100% profit in Wigan. Preffered the Mecca as it was musically superior. Ricardo.

Please Dim The Lights Or Point Them Down
Ritchieandrew replied to Anais nin Carms's topic in All About the SOUL

Hello John, Good idea but I've got the Flu, see y'all soon (if Northern Soul survives the weekend.) Ricardo.

Nice thread, and a hard one to summarise, with regard to creating a 'fix.' As a former employee of a large White goods manufacturer (which has now ceased trading in the UK) we used a methodology to solve similar problems, this was called Six Sigma. The main thrust of this was D.M.A.I.C. (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control.) The Important part here being CONTROL. It's no good spending time "putting things right" if you don't put in control to stop it reverting back to how it was. As there's never been any CONTROL over the way things on the scene have gone previously, (autonomy) I can't see anything being done to stem the tide now. To me it's now a case of "Too many Chiefs, & not enough Indians" & "The Lunatics have taken over the Assylum." Regards Ricardo.

I've seen this @ around the £200 mark lately, a fantastic 'Blue eyed soul double header.' If you can find one @ £125 buy it. Ricardo.
-
Spot on there Stuart, Motown bass lines for example, were very complex and the Corporation in no way wanted other producers & labels to copy them, or emulate their unique sound, hence keeping them 'in house' However some producers still managed to copy to some degree, for example The Sonatas - Going down the road, being a copy of 'Aint that perculiar' to name one. There are many others. Regards Ricardo.
-
Cor Blimey................ a double header Crossover Jem @ a bargain price. Got one myself..........superb. Ricardo.
