Most Unlikely...
In much the same vein - I believe it even has "You're so young" on the other side.

Leroy Burgess - Genius or What?
Spent ages last night trying to post a link to Dazzle! Always reminds me of Richards late 70's sets. And as for the Leroy & Belita tune, really nice, always meant to get one, never did! Good job Chris - this has turned into a great topic.

Leroy Burgess - Genius or What?
Haven't learned how to cut and paste links on this tablet - but how about Black Ivory "Mainline" on Buddha? An awesome track imo.

those "sad" records you play late at night
Got to be one of the best records I ever heard!

Pretenders 'Be Yourself' on Carnival
Always a 'Poke' record for me - Cliftonville hall and Cleethorpes - covered as the Quadrophonics at one point if I remember correctly. Glad you got one Peter - what's a 'nice' price then?

Poll: Version Battle - Ever again
Thanks to the wonder of technology I have had the opportunity to listen to them both again and Gene's outing is certainly better than I recall. But to get things straight; Bernie, Mecca '74 - Gene, Wigan (?) late 70's. I bought Gene to be completist, and it was inexpensive, I bought Bernie because I just couldn't believe I would ever have the opportunity to own a real Bernie Williams - knackered as it was. For the record, it was one of the original five from John Anderson (ex Soul Sam), cracked and worn maybe, but £15 - who's going to say no?

Poll: Version Battle - Ever again
I think that's about right Mike, it was on the Grapevine lp around '78. Which, now I come to think about it, is where I first heard it.

Poll: Version Battle - Ever again
Very good Pete! Certainly, made me smile! As for the tunes, Bernie every time. Gene W. a late70's early 80's discovery? I got mine off Soul Bowls front page, so they must have had a decent quantity at one time.

Frank Wilson on old list
Yes, I think am mistaken on this one - did Jonathan do trades with you for it Kev?
-
Frank Wilson on old list
Looks like a Soul bowl list to me. I think it would be after Jonathan had sold it - I seem to recall him offering it me for £400 around 1980.

But was it 'A Big Thing' after all ?
Thanks for that Chalky, been wracking my brains for ages trying to remember which version it was that Rob played!

Is This The Rarest Bootleg Pressing?
I went to Selectadisc to buy one (a Sweets boot, but I was young at the time...) what they gave me was a ' real' one - and it came at random out of the pile they had for sale, so clearly they were not discriminating that much at point of sale back then.

Ronnie and Robyn As long as you love me
It came out as a red issue too. The flip ("Each time") is ok, nothing to get too exited about.

Crusaders - You Pay For Love 1969

Phyllis Brown - I've got something on my mind
That Zuma recording is different to the Sonny & Phyllis version on Soft too - that version (as far as I can recall) is the same as the solo credit apart from a repeated intro.

Carmel Strings, I hear a symphony, white label??

Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes - Reaching For The World
I had forgotten what a lovely tune this is, and so nice to see them performing it, thanks so much for sharing!

Unknown Test Pressing.
Now we know who it is, and we all agree it's a nice tune, does anyone have any thoughts about an alternative version? The song is really familiar but I know I don't have a copy of this version. You didn't put it on a cassette for me once upon a time did you Robin?

Esther Phillips - I've Never Found A Man 1973
Great clip! One of my favourites by the lady - and definitely 'live' rather than lip synced. Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing!

Northern soul collecting!! Is it a con?
That's the way Peter - it's about the love of the music after all isn't it? And is there any single thing that brings memories back as vividly as music?

Northern soul collecting!! Is it a con?
In the time I was collecting I met many who tried to con me (some of whom undoubtedly succeeded) but I had a whale of a time, owned many records I never thought I would be able to when I was a youngster on the scene, and when I sold up I got a fair price from one of the nicest guys I ever met through northern soul, which is ironic as he didn't even like it himself. I always worked on the assumption that if you only bought what you liked, paid what you were happy to pay, and owning it gave you pleasure, you would never feel like you had been conned.
