  1. Not seen that before - liked it!
  2. Nothing useful to add other than what a nice track. When you think of Syreeta you tend to think of that stuff she did with Billy Preston - which wasn't at all to my taste I'm afraid.
  3. From your original post I assumed you meant that the original Four Larks recording had in some way been altered - I was trying to check whether that was what you meant. Clearly the 45 is a boot - but the Detroit Sounds is a bona fide recording of the song in the same way that something like Jenny & the Jewels was a budget cover of the Supremes. Clearly you aren't a fan but it is a legit recording.
  4. Forgot to attach picture - wouldn't fit on my scanner so I had to take a quick picture, apologies for the quality;
  5. Sorry Dave, Pete is deffo right on this one. Quite apart from the album existing, the lyrics have been subtly altered on the Detroit Sound version. Anyone know what the album is would/should fetch?
  6. Sorry Dave I'm not following you? Do you mean it is some sort of altered version of the Four Larks?
  7. Fair point, shouldn't have to be law though - a mirror should be sufficient!
  8. I think those 'dance offs' have been part of black culture for a long time, they are mentioned in Archie Bell "Showdown".
  9. Solatios were around in 72/73 for sure - lots of the cooler kids at the youth club I went to wore them. I always thought the later 'northern' wear was a retro thing even then. All connected with the flat sole/dancing shoes thing. A lot of local kids said to me "I don't mind the trousers but I couldn't wear those shoes!" I think we should acknowledge that part of the northern thing was the feeling of superiority it gave you. And the fact that we were relentlessly forward looking. The other guys who lived near me were in flares and platforms - I was in bags and flatties - they got baggies when they got to the High street - but I was already into tapers and converse - we were just cooler and they couldn't keep up! How did it end up as it has?
  10. And all done in suits - not a vest or baggy's to be seen!
  11. Much better than I expected, Paul Mason emerged with a good deal of credit (I thought) and he was a much better dancer than many of the baggy trouser brigade! I'll certainly watch his reports on 'Newsnight' through different eyes in the future I also thought Elaine's description of the youth club and how she became aware of northern soul must have chimed with many. I really did like the obvious passion she showed too - I think 'that' film may well be worth a watch. I gave it a four.
  12. It was written up in Ian Levine's "Hey Mr dj" column in Black Music at the time too if I remember correctly.
  13. I have only heard it played out once - early doors at the Mecca - easy to see (hear) why it didn't go on on to greater things....
  14. I had forgotten Lou's version - everything he did is tremendous! Though nothing (literally, nothing) betters "Reach out for me" - for me... I'm very well thank you Peter - how are you?
  15. Isaacs version is tremendous!
  16. It has been on several times in the last couple of months, I am sure if you keep your eyes peeled it will be on again before too long. It was made quite a long time ago (80's 90's?) but a very enjoyable watch.
  17. You cheeky monkey young Turner! I sang along to Kelly Garrett today too - the epitome of southern soul! I trust you are keeping your chin up mate...
  18. As are many 'northern classics' but didn't we enjoy ourselves to them when we were young? I know I did.
  19. My J.D. Martin had the same stamp on it - and a radio station call sign, which sadly I can't recall.
  20. Nice catch! Definitely 'of its time' but I have a real soft spot for "Seven days" - long time ago now but I was so chuffed to get a mint 'real one'!
  21. A video like this always make me wonder what the story behind it is - who filmed it and why? It is a very nice tune too...
  22. Definitely vinyl as well as styrene. I used to have a vinyl wdj - along with several other vinyl wdj's of Mirwood things.
  23. Out of interest is it more to numpty to a.) buy said bag or b.) have loads of stickers proclaiming the fact that you're 'keeping the faith Okeh"** in the back window of your car? ** Not necessarily exact wording - other slogans are available.
  24. Anyone got a scan of a 'proper' Soul City demo? Just curious like...
