  1. Surely its a bootleg usually available from the retail outlet formerly known as Selecta?
  2. Na Allen was played a fair bit when I was a lad!
  3. I reckon you need new speakers Mick - even though the distortion at the end of the Fuzz sounds deliberate! p.s. The Fuzz sounds much better than I remembered it so thanks for bringing it back to my attention Dave..
  4. Was it thought 'fashionable' at the time? I wonder if there are any more tunes out there with similar fades?
  5. All this talk of what a record should or should not cost kind of gets to the nub of why people collect doesn't it? I always bought records I liked and wanted, as and when I could get them, for the price they cost. Sometimes they went up sometimes they went down. Sometimes I paid less than other people for the same record, sometimes more. But I bought them because I liked them, and when there was price deflation (as has happened several times in my memory - well I could buy even more records I liked. You can probably see where I am going with this. They are things of beauty and wonder - not stocks and shares - buy them, enjoy them, no one deserves more from a record than that.
  6. Yep, not everything them 'good old days' some folk bang on about was all good!
  7. Did the cover up name get mentioned?
  8. Ps Mick (I'll be talking to you later!) Hector was an absolute hero of mine!
  9. Got to be quick - cooking dinner! Notts Palais all nighters definitely happened in 1975 (August/September?) as I remember going straight from the Palais to a job interview on a Saturday straight from one. I think the East Midland soul Club (Rob Smith and some others involved in that...). "Smoke stream" Brothers and Sisters (?) on Nasco big at the first one.
  10. That's lovely! I had a blue Canadian copy - but I would have definitely liked one of those...
  11. That's the early boot (widely available from Selectadisc at the time. Seen lots of black issues - and from a lot of unusual different countries - don't recall ever seeing a WDJ of this though?
  12. I don't think they are. I seem to recall mine was a demo, and there is one on Popsike at the moment with 'not for sale' on the label which kind of confirms my initial thought. Edited to add; Sorry, just checked - though the image is there the auction was some while ago on Popsike.
  13. I stand corrected fellas, serves me right for repeating something I heard as a youth! You can always count on someone on here having the answer though!
  14. Didn't Chuck Jackson do a version of Ollie Jackson "The day my heart stood still"? on V.I.P. titled as "The day my world stood still"?
  15. Sadly I haven't anyone got a scan they can post? TIA, RB
  16. I can vaguely remember Jonathan playing it around late '78 and eventually (not quite sure of the year) bought one because my wife said she liked it - £44 from Rob Smith. Seemed expensive at the time!
  17. Thanks Pete - my 'oldtimers' kicking in again!
  18. Later than '77 I would have thought too - '79? Blue is the only one for me.
  19. So what is a real one going to cost these days then?
  20. As a youngster I was in Selectadisc buying a Sweets 'Satisfy me baby' - when the guy (Nick I think it was) pulled it out of the rack he said "You're in luck, its a real one!" - handed it over for the 75p anyway. Good man!
  21. Yum Yums - chap thought he was selling me a boot. Rob Smith had a 'real' boot in his box so a quick quick confirmed my suspicions - East coast original £7 - made sure I told him that I knew he thought he was ripping me off too! He wasn't real happy about it either....
  22. The originals are Chalky.
  23. Those with 'PB' in the runout can be hard to spot - there were titles than many realise from that source Fabulous Jades "Come on and Live" being one that seems to be overlooked.
  24. Orange boot has that 'typical' ridge around the middle doesn't it, as Rod says orange original has MR stamp. Anything else other than Tobbe Bowe on Patheway?
  25. Funny I have only seen them the wrong way round! Funny business this record thing eh? Personally I always wanted a genuine orange/black copy, based on the fact that I had only seen the multi-coloured label copies.
