  11. Some of the bigger boys were a bit naughty and pushed in front of us at the start, and I think it was some of them that wee'd on the toilet floors, but I didn't tell my mum when she came to pick me up. She would have gone bonkers that I was mixing with people who could do that. I did see one person taking what I thought at the time were purple coloured love hearts but there was no nice words on them, so perhaps they were knock off's from the market. It really was good fun there and those nice men in dinner jackets protected us all from anything bad happening. I nearly forgot, because we came from near London and therefore must have known Neville Staples we didn't have to queue up ever again. Then I fecking woke up !!
  12. Thanks Steve, thats kind of a man of your taste to comment ! it really is a great venue that was a privilege to DJ at, thanks to Len Dopson. Next night is April 11th disappointed I can't be there as its a great line up.

  14. Great set Tank, I had an education !! thanks Andy
  15. On the subject of irony, did anyone else see the "northern Soul" question on university challenge, last night? starter for ten was identify this track…answer they got which was Frank Wilson. The next 3 tracks were Dusty Springfield, Gladys Knight and I can't remember the last one, all of which they answered as Aretha Franklin. You can't blame them for not knowing but blimey University Challenge!! you can't beat a bit of media exposure can you and I did always think the teams were on top of each other with stairs at the back.
  16. What a shock to hear such bad news, Tony was a great guy, first met him when he was djing at the Greyhound at Haynes Nr Bedford, then we all moved on to the Northern scene proper, with Hammie, Stik, Dave Smith, Steve Foran, merv the swerve and far too many other great lads from Bedford to mention. I spent a lot of time with Tony back in the 70's lost touch for a few years but when I saw him again it was as if time had stood still, same old jokes, same old Tony. Will miss you, you dick head……..Andy
  17. Good Morning Soul Sourcers, Anyone have a copy of the Nomads Somethings Bad on Mo Groove For sale please. PM with price & condition for a prompt reply. Thank you.
  18. Gordon Russell & Steve Foran, I've run out of likes as I peaked too early, but to these and other posts, consider yourself liked.
  19. I initially thought that this programme would be like all the others and try to ignore it and hope it goes away, but it is too important an issue for that, its become almost the tipping point. I have no problem with younger people, new people, wearing of vintage outfits etc etc but this programme is about pure commercialisation and should be seen as so, it was there to promote a film which needs and wants to make money and again good luck to them and to Elaine and everyone who has appeared in it. But its not a documentary, its not done for the good of the people who love soul music or for an old soul fans rest home fund its being done for profit. Why then should we be asked to embrace everything about it as if its the way forward? It is not, its the reason why there is no resect given by the so called "soul police" to the cheapening of something we all love and hold dear, including playing pressings & bootlegs at a venue. Winnie & len both have put their opinions very well and I totally agree with what they have to say. I don't care about the fashion thing as its personal choice but I do care that by silence we are agreeing with turning the " scene" into a circus and when the youngsters & tourists have moved on to the next new thing we will be left with reduced numbers as people will have walked away. There were and I hope still are people that would share their knowledge of the music with each other and in turn pass that on to others but what is a programme like this passing on? that this is what to expect when you go to a soul music venue, well I for one would run a mile if I didn't already know what it is or should be like, so I can't see how its supposed to be keeping things alive. I mean no animosity to anyone who enjoys themselves in any way but it should not be to the detriment of others enjoyment & principles. Stay away from the media its the devils work!! Cheers Andy
