A few more details xx Lynn Crowie has asked me to post details of Jan Nicholls' funeral. Jan will be buried on Friday 14th October at 12pm at All Saints Church, Elmore Row, Bloxwich WS3 2HR. The family have requested family flowers only. There will be a collection at the Church for a chosen charity. Please wear whatever you feel comfortable in. There will be a Celebration of Jan's Life afterwards at Colebatches Club, 699 Bloxwich Road, Walsall WS3 2BD. Anyone wanting to bring a box of records please feel free everyone will be able to play some tunes. There will be a buffet also. Car parking for the Club is limited but you are able to park over the road on the public swimming baths' carpark.

Totally devastated to hear this just returned from holiday and had a message!! Very sad that it happened so long ago and I didn't hear any sooner but unfortunately I don't come on here much nowadays and hadn't seen Dave for quite a while. The laughs we used to have sat on here until the small hours laughing and messing about. RIP Dave, such a lovely man xx

I took my 10 year old to a local soul night last Saturday for various reasons:- (1) he wanted to come and dance with me (2) he wanted to hear some music other than what we have at home (3) he wanted to meet my friends of whom I talk a great deal about (4) he didn't want to stay with the babysitter!! It was a small venue with very very friendly people, 80% of whom I have known for half of my life (no idiots doing hand stands in the middle of the floor looking like startled rabbits!!). I did also ring the promoter first to check if it was ok for him to be there which there was no problem. There is no way I would take him to a nighter (not until he was 18 anyway) ... (1) as aforesaid "startled rabbits" (2) it's too late for me to be up late alone him !!! I think if parents want to take their kids to nighters then let them ... I am not judge or jury ... everyone to their own .. kids at nighters don't bother me .. they are there to dance and have a good night. Like many previous posts .. how old were we when we went to our first nighter .. I was 14 and if I hadn't been taken by an older boyfriend I would probably have not got into the music and what sort of shite would I be listening to now .. doesn't bear thinking about!!!

Sad news. I heard the other day that he had passed away. I've known Little Martin for as long as I've been on the soul scene, which is a long time! Always dancing his little feet off in some corner or other. Always very polite and a nice gentleman. Rest In Peace Martin xx

I was only told about this 2 nights ago as I've been in hospital myself. I'm gutted!! Gary was one in a million. He helped the Gambian Charity group out a great deal and sorted out the venue for our last charity dayer. He couldn't do enough. Met his lovely family that day too and my heart goes out to them. We used to have a good old laugh on the old stoke thread on here and numerous phone calls just talking rubbish basically. You will be missed Gary, specially by me. RIP special man xx

Hiya Kenny, I've never lived down there but have visited a few times as I have really good mates who live in Liskeard (Cornwall) and also have mates in Plymouth who travel all over the place so I don't think you'd be stuck for car companions .... all people I have met on the soul scene and stayed in touch with .. couldn't ask for a better bunch Been to a couple of soul dos down there with them and really good crowds have been there ... I'd certainly make the move ... much nicer than the Midlands, nicer pace of life, nicer weather

Glad I had my uses Jim!!! Loved dancing .. can't do it so much nowadays the old hips won't take it!!! I went the Birch, Lime Street, some cricket club up Ashton/Droylesden way also with Julie Carruthers, Sheila etc .. those were great days!! Don't think I went to Donaheys but you never know!!!
