Worst Record Finder In Nato Goes West Coast
Chris Anderton replied to Russ Vickers's topic in All About the SOUL
Russ, In san Francisco head for Haight st where you will find Rockie Ricados and a whole host of other stores.....also check out the Ameba chains on the west coast especially for LPs, they get so much stuff in you could just fall lucky..... I would forget all about Rosen if i were you, his pricing method seems to be the price guide price plus the ebay price! He is a joke to be honest mate.....I was in Vegas last year and did`nt even go there.....actuall Vegas is a waste of time unless you find an individual...maybe check out record city (near the stratasphere) for some LPs.... Los Angeles is quite tough but there are some half decent shops....as i said it just depends when you get there, you might just get lucky. You could check out Bagatelle in Longbeach....but mainly well picked over.... Good luck mate.... You deserve some! Chris -
Sorry guys, looks like i`m getting my soul shakers mixed up....it was the Loma one i had...oh well......... Chris
-
Now I`m confused....if its a 76club revival why would you have Sean Chapman to DJ? More likely Ian and Beano, Glen and Dave...even PT..........these guys were the reidents down there........ Good luck with it anyway, hope i can get down to support...... Chris.
-
Ian, I had this on my last list, or maybe the one before....think i still have it email me at chris.soul@btinternet.com £220 i think it was......... Chris
-
Just to have heard these would have been fabbie Chris - excellent tuunes as normal ..... Thanks Mand, must say some of those are personal faves, especially Sea shells and Ella Woods....nice to be able to play exactly what you want to play with no pressure from the dance floor.... Chris

Russ, Email me on chris.soul@btinternet.com i have some contacts on the west coast. Hope you are well mate.... chris -
Bit of a sheepish grin from him a few seconds later when you took it off and put it back in your box! ...... LOL, I remember that mate, was really funny....lets just give the other the DJ the benifit of the doubt that he did`nt understand what you were saying! Great weekend though...who cares who played what...as long as they were played... Love the Milton Parker myself.......dont think its anti feminist...but what the hell if it is! Chris.
-
I must say I`d pay £25 an hour to learn to dance....but its never going to happen, i just havent got it....to be honest I always wanted to be a dancer but realised i was`nt going to make it...thats why i started DJing!! Now i just dance for myself.... I must admit i made a comment in the modern room in Prestatyn this year, after seeing the best dancer I`ve ever seen "I`d give all of my records to be able to dance like that"...i got a few laughs....but i meant it!! Chris

Marvin Gaye MPG, just a black and white portrait of Marvin in his prime... I met a guy who designed loads of the motown album covers atthe museum a couple of years ago, Curtis McNair, it was fascinating talking to him....lovely guy too... Chris
-
I have a couple of DVDs of soul train i bought in the US. They have come from japan. The quality is not 100% but good enough to view...the guy had the whole lot at $10 each...unfortunatly some of the clips where the dancers "do their funky stuff" to backing tapes have been edited out....but there is still planty of entertainment.....if anyone is desperate to see them get in touch and I`ll see what i can do for you....... Chris

Guys, Please get payment for all outstanding orders to me asap as I`ll be away at the end of the week. Failure to do so will delay your order. Cheers, Chris
-
Rachel, Wow, thats a lot different to what i imagined....more like an acoustic version! It lacks the urgency and passion of the original...or as joan puts it the "soul". I think the vocals may be identical though.......I`ll stick with mine thanks! Chris
-
Talking with US dealers, the only scene we can liken the northern scene too is the US group collecting scene. It used to be a competative and vibrant scene, records fetched great amounts...then everyone died, leaving 4 or 5 big collectors.....the bottom dropped out of the market. Now,if a record comes up for sale that 2 of them dont have then you will get a good price but if they all have it....you get bugger all....... Chris
-
Ted, There were actually 10 copies that Shifty and I found...sold 9 and kept one myself. I did`nt know the record when i found it but knew of it. I was`nt 100% with it to start with but after a few plays it really does get you. All our copies are gone now. They came from someone connected with the writer in Illinois. Joan, There was a version on ebay claiming to be different, it was mashed and went for about $500. I did`nt get to hear it but have it on good authority that it was different. Watch out for the single sided Demos....the wrong side of course!! Think I`ll be giving KOS a spin at Prestwich this Friday......... Chris
-
Agree about the thrift stores though Russ...we cant pass one either, the only things we ever found were; Douglas Banks Guyden Gene McDaniels Bay Brothers It does`nt stop us looking though........ Chris
-
Russ, For gods sake mate dont start finding records now. Its always one of the highkights of our trip when we phone you to tell you what we have found! Dont spoil our fun....please! As the saying goes "If you fell into a barrell full of tits, you would come up sucking your thunb"!!! I think it was one of us who said you were the worst record finder in nato? Allentown in September mate, are you up for it? Maybe even turn up when theres some records for sale this year eh? Chris

Hi Guys, Had a fantastic time in Cleethorpes as usual, great to meet some of you there, even if i could`nt remember anything the next day! The Sales CDs were out again this month but there wont be one in August as I`m away in Rimini, although there will of course be a list landing on your virtual doorstops around the 30th of the month! Don't forget you can now you can pay by credit card at no extra cost. If you don't have a paypal account just go to www.paypal.com and sign up, it's really easy.
