  1. I have never seen the book of poems Mark.....I remember one time Shifty and I went out there 2 days apart cause he was DJing or something.....meanwhile i made my way to Chicago and was finding some great tunes, we were a day late picking Shifty up in Detroit and he stayed at Bobs place, went fishing together etc....When we picked him up he was well pissed off...just sitting around Bobs place listening to his stories....but he did manage to find a nice copy of Sam Nesbit amoungst Bobs junk stuff! Chris ps, and now you`re gonna believe us.....THE RAMS ARE GOING UP!
  2. I heard back from the Journelist tonight....apparently a lot of the stock has already gone but a lot of it is going to Bobs house, as previously mentioned. He said the date for the store closing was mid Feb..... Chris.
  3. I have no more details but will try and find out. Not too many of the old Detroit stores still going now, Cappy closed about 3 years ago... Chris
  4. Just had an email from a guy at the Detroit Free Press asking me for stories about Bob mayes record store in Detroit. The store is set to close in the near future. There cant be many people who have been record searching in Detroit and not been to see old Bob! I know Gilly has some stories about records being berried in the garden...just wondered if anyone has anything they would like to share... You can email me on chris.soul@btinternet.com if you want the address of the newspaper guy.... Chris
  5. wont the £30 records then be £50 and so on..........thats the way of it on the northernsoul record scene, you would finnish up with no cheap records how can this be good,£30 record nighter would be ok for a couple but a novelty and they will soon be bored. .................... Yeah, thats what i said Ken...as a collectors night, not a nighter and not on a regular basis...a one off! Chris
  6. Thanks for the info Guys, much appreciated.... Anything else to add? Chris
  7. I would have thought that surely the majority do??? ................. I disagree Tony, I think a vast majority dance to what they like and have no knowledge of the origins of that tune...nothing at all wrong with that. Can you imagine a paying punter on the night asking for something and you having to explain that it was`nt released on or near its actual recording date?...Do you think they will actually care?! My idea for a collectors night would be "All records played are currently under £30"! Now that would bring the crowds back... Chris

Its worth pointing out that this Cd contains about 10 R&B items out of the 60 odd tracks featured, a lot more than usual. Usually the Cds are more Northerm/ Crossover......awlays good value whatever your taste, even if i say so myself! Chris.

  13. I loved this venue, it was a real breath of fresh air at the time. I remember it moving to another venue when pitchers closed...cant remember the name of the place, some sports club i think. I always remember looking thru Gary from Blacknights records and finding some great bargains, almost on a monthly basis! Great times..... Chris

  18. Just payed for ( 3 mins ago) a Stone mint white demo of this...might be for sale or i might hang onto it....if i sell it it will be £75....dont laugh, its in the book at 75, my guy has the book...he charges me $75......i have to pass it on at £75 to make a decent profit... See how it all works now? Just bought some tasty stuff at the same time...If you dont already get the lists email me on chris.soul@btinternet.com to get them in future.... Great record though....... Chris.
  19. Dave, I remember that conversation.....I think John said he would give up his brain to be back there....He`s been waiting for the time machine ever since! I was never there but i always think you would be as well being at the record bar in Wigan circa 1975 armed with the knowledge you have now. The thing is you would be back there and there would be so much shit to sort through, a lot of Uk collectors wouldn`t have the mentality or the patience to sort through all that stuff, they mostly like their records already sorted. I see the look on their face when they look at my 800 sales records and ask if its sorted into 70s, oldies, crossover.....they wouldn`t hack sorting through three dog night and Merle Haggard records! Chris
  20. one last bump! Some real bargains on this list...read it carefully! Chris
  21. Anyone know these or have a MP3 clip? Cheers, Chris
  22. Anyone got a clip of either of the above? What do you think current value is? Cheers, Chris
  23. I'm prepared to send out a CD to everyone as long as i get one back - can some kind soul make a decision on this for me? .................. Plumby, You are two months too late mate...now piss off! Decision made..... Chris. ps. You just had to play that Innersection at the Orwell again did`nt you!?
  24. I`m reliably informed there are still two Cds outstanding....anyone wanting to "fess-up" about not sending their CDs out yet?! I certainly cant figure it out... Just to echo what everyone has said, the quality has been outstanding on this swap, i`m still playing the CDs everyday and discovering new tracks all of the time....thanks to you all for putting so much effort into it... I`m sure we will do it again in a couple of months, maybe Easter? Not sure of the theme yet but suggestions are welcome...nothing too obscure! Thanks again Guys and happy new year...... Chris.
