As I mention, 2 different scences, both happy to exist in their own way - one the majority and one the minority...........sometimes we happily co-exist ; sometimes it spills over, either way prob best to live and let live ; because I for sure havent seen any evidence of conversion and arguments being won

Totally agree and still gives people a reason to travel and gives djs individual personality ................

I buy from all sources Dave, hunting for something I am after or takes my fancy. The preferred method is face to face, record player to play them on and then friendly negotiation. That perfect scenario seldom presents itself, so its through the mix to obtain things I can. I don't do label runs anymore, mainly for space and volume reasons, besides cost. So have a few small boxes of things I love. I am sure I have both under and over paid, but I do like to deal with Sellers I trust, because it makes it easier. If that trust element goes, I don't go back. By way of example I bought a record at a recent weekender, cracked through out, held together with tape on the b side. It was listed at £ 150 whole, but up for offers cracked at £ 75. The play side, played fine. The Seller wanted an offer, I suggested he say what he would be happy with and we agreed on £ 60. That way we both felt good about the deal. I hadn't the money on me (well I had but an alnighter ahead) so took the record and paid 3 or 4 days later. The point being I have good relations with the Seller and there is trust between us. We will continue to trade again............good for both of us.... So it can still be done, but it is harder as Dealers do seem to find it harder to sell at venues (be it just the climate or EvilBay etc).. I say use them all we can, because many do keep the flow of records coming and condition and sound can be assessed there and then "live" and "live" is almost certainly best in everything in life :-)

Agree with whats gone before from those at it far longer than me...............I started on the label collecting route intially (completist) and then switched to just the tunes I couldn't do with out........I have a much smaller "collection" as a result [which it just registers as ], but am happy to add to slowly and steadily over time. Its really useful to have all the wise owls around, most of whom are all to happy to help and share their knowledge - its part of the joy of records - the constant learning and hearing of new sounds............... I don't think I'd have time to listen to everything available (life time wise) so wouldn't worry to much about targets in that way - just focus on the tunes you love and only buy those is my advice (whatever the current trends) - that way you will fully appreciate what you have (regardless of value also)............

Almost two seperate scenes now : Oldies ; majority supported and hugely popular ; large venues and crowds ; some OVO, some don't be too fussy Rare ; minority supported/ lower numbers ; small venues and most know each other ; OVO only Not many events can successfully cater for the two in one room - maybe thats a thing of the past.......... We all like different elements and take our choices...............

Calling All The South Coast Promoters
Raremusicdirect replied to alfie00soul's topic in All About the SOUL
Trouble is Sal if you do clash with local do's then those locals won't be in two places - and then all bemoan lack of local support. I know the issue maybe that they just dont like the SITS music policy, but I would have thought a few may cross between and with low numbers, every person counts :-) -
Calling All The South Coast Promoters

Great idea Alfie............why don't you send each an indivduall invite with a date and time to meet, see who turns up............ ? I'm not from the South Coast, but its obvious to see that better co-ordination would help concentrate numbers, avoid clashes and perhaps move things forward .................. -
Playlists, Or The Lack Of Them

If the "protective" element didn't still exist then maybe we would be complaining that every track from every playlist was posted -

Playlists, Or The Lack Of Them
Raremusicdirect replied to Tim Smithers's topic in All About the SOUL
I have the view that its important to post up a flavour of whats posted to give an idea to those who may travel and who haven't attended the event or heard the dj before. It maybe just a flavour incorporating the things they play ; that are known and can exclude coverups or items than other djs could easily pick up. These days some £ 15 tunes are being played and if listed would have an even shorter life than the big money tunes which can also be uncovered but take longer to attain. I think djs are becoming more protective of what they have (as its now easy to pretty much hear anything via mp3 same or next day) and maintain that the best way to see what a dj plays is to go out and hear them. [historically may always of been the case] When I am lucky enough to play I put everything into it, in the hope that its well received and that people say in their minds "nice set" and may want to hear another by me at some point. The things I play will be focused on the room and the list I produce after will never fully reflect that, deliberatley, because I want them to come along...live.............. So a playlist that gives a feel - yes ; complete full detailed listing - nope ................... I would like to see more of the "feel" playlists though and by all djs attending, not just the same few................ -

to Mr Optical Sound I reserved a 45 but then never came back to pay for it. I just clean forgot - so hands up and apologies. Its the first I have missed in 10 years, so not a bad track record ; but hands up - my error !! Hope that won't deter the rest of you :-)

Should have been agreed at time of sale. How long deposit would hold records for, when full payment expected by ; procedure if full payment wasn't made, who would bare costs etc................BUT like most these (and my deals) its largely based on trust. You'll perhaps be more specific next time ; and be tad wary of the purchaser (unless there is indeed good reason).........
