All Platinum: The Making of a Sound is the long overdue detailed history of All Platinum Records from 1967-1979. This essential mammoth-sized reference source deals with each year in the company’s history as well as exploring the stories of its artists and the musicians who signed for the company each year. With quotes from many of the surviving artists, a fascinating insight as provided into how Joe and Sylvia Robinson’s record label started operating from a small basement and grew to become one of the most important black owned record labels of the '70s. This was no ordinary record company. The creative talent that passed through All Platinum’s doors was phenomenal and the way the business operated was unusual to say the least. All Platinum: The Making of a Sound also covers the acquisition of Chess, the once mighty Chicago label, as well as the company’s successful expansion into the UK and Europe in 1975. Additionally, the book contains the most comprehensive (and fully illustrated) discography on the releases from All Platinum and its related imprints, as well as those records it distributed nationally for other record labels. This one just landed. A 1972 pre-publication press photo of NAACP Executive Director Roy Wilkins; teed up to accompany an article concerning the passage of an "anti" bus(s)ing section in the Education Bill. The general concept behind funded transportation for school pupils from outside districts was to assist in racial integration and aid equal access to education, but the bill that was passed under the Nixon administration actually blocked the use of federal money for this purpose.

There was a job lot which did include some of the really early numbers, about 2 weeks ago on ebay.

SOLD Clearing the shelves today to make way for incoming stock. Since Brexit scuppered any future dealings with my former print company I no longer sell physical copies of The Tempests: A Carolina Soul Story and House of Broken Hearts: The Soul of 1960s Nashville. Only ebook. That said, a couple of proof paperback copies of both titles have surfaced this morning, so if anyone wants them they are on the site. Heck, I'll even sign 'em if you like! These were first draft copies to check print quality but not far off the final version (other than the cover, as that was added later).
