  1. Decca Records and Klooks Kleek - a book by Dick Weindling and Marianne Colloms. ***Order via link below*** The first history is presented here of Decca Studios and Klooks Kleek, the famous West Hempstead R&B club, alongside more than 50 photographs, many of which have not appeared in print before. The Decca Studios story is explored where thousands of recordings were made between 1947 and 1980. Klooks Kleek was run next door between 1961 and 1970 in the railway Hotel by Dick Jordan and Geoff Williams, who share their memories of the venue and the jazz, R&B, and soul acts who played there and recorded at Decca (paperback, new). 4. Soul Reflections: 45rpm Singles and EP Picture Covers (Soul Artists 1960-1971) PDF DOWNLOAD A book by E. Mark Windle, with contributions from Craig A. Butler ***£4.99 order via link below*** The popularity of 1960s soul music globally is evidenced by the vast range of releases of US soul records in other countries. With the resurgence of interest in 1960s soul and R&B throughout Europe and elsewhere, these formats have now taken on an appeal of their own. Picture covers carry intrinsic historical value. Cover art may consist of photographic images of artists, use a stylistic approach, or a combination of both. Where photographic portraits are presented, in some cases they provide the only known images of lesser known soul artists. Around 150 picture covers are presented from the US but also Europe, UK, Japan and other countries. Each record carries a footnote of points of historical interest. This book should appeal to all lovers of soul music including collectors of classic , northern / rare soul, Motown and blue eyed soul (PDF / e-book, new). 22. Chips Moman. The Record Producer Whose Genius Changed American Music - James L.Dickerson. Order via link below The blurb: Chips Moman's genius began in the studio, where he instituted technical innovations that forever changed the recording industry, but it expanded from there with an uncanny ability to recognize hit songs when he heard them as rough demos. Moman often goes under recognised in his contributory role in the very early days of Stax before co-founding American Sound Studio, and carving himself an impressive production and songwriting career that blossomed with an unsurpassed string of hit R&B, soul, pop and rock records, rescuing Elvis Presley's career with his recordings of "Suspicious Minds" and "In the Ghetto". Not bad for a Georgia country boy who dropped out of school in the eighth grade and hitchhiked to Memphis in search of the American Dream (Paperback, 348 pages, illustrated).
