  10. Agree, superb midtempo, fell in love with this since hearing it on an Alan Walls tape more than 20 years ago. I have actually heard this played out once or twice and it sounds good. I've now got copies of both of these on issue, just played them side by side. They sound like slightly different takes or at least different mixes (JM states alternate takes). Both have same release nos. 2002s/2003, and both have ARCHER stamps.
  11. Anybody have any background info on this? Was the title changed for political reasons to get more sales.....
  12. Found very indepth but interesting discussion re this and the mahs/solid hit issue on soulfuldteroit.com. Seems like the Solid Hit ~108 was recorded in aug 67, and both sides are different recordings to the Mahs releases. The Mahs copy of "Together" with "Fun" as flip was released in April 1968, then a rush job on pressing more was done in May 1968 ( which is when the flip changed) as it was a bigger hit than they imagined, and demand outstripped the original supply. This would suggest reasonably limited copies of the first Mahs one if sold out over a month and limited pressing? BTW "Together we shall overcome" was a civil rights tune, ironically recorded the day before Martin Luther King was assassinated. Mark
  13. Have just procured the Mahs issue of "Together we shall overcome", backed with "Fun to be young" still winging its way from the US. I know the Solid Hit "Better to love/Fun" is a turn up for the books, but just wondering how common this Mahs one is. Know a bit about the release history and would have assumed there were a few of these with "Fun" as the flip on Mahs, but I have never come across one in twenty years of knowing the record, none listed in Manship etc. Anybody through any light on how common the Mahs one might be? Or have I missed the plot and does everyone have "Together" b/w "Fun" in their collection...Its the multicolour jobbie. Mark

  22. Not bad at all, but check out Aretha Franklin "Sunshine" for longest intro ever: see "wait for the beat" intros thread!!! Mark
  23. Oops wrong forum how do I move this.....
  24. On a kind of related theme to a recent thread here, can we get this one going??? For starters check out Aretha Franklin "(You are my) sunshine" (Atlantic). Got it as an LP track (?available as 45 too?) but can't upload, can anybody post a clip? If you think Aretha's not obscure enough for you, just give this a listen for quality: this will blow your tits off !!! Then turns into a great R&B dancer... Easy to get hold off but one of her lesser knowns, I have even heard this played at a soul night (can you imagine, you'd need balls to play this with the full intro!!) thanks to Stuart Spence (Scotland) many years ago. Sounds even better loud!!! Who's next? Mark.
