Moses Dillard And Tex-Town Revue Band
Windlesoul replied to Windlesoul's topic in All About the SOUL
Right, major cat out of the bag here now. Regards the Appreciations' 'It's better to cry' - it wasn't the Tempests backing them as previously thought. Was actually Moses Dillard and the Tex Town Revue. Kind of from the horse's mouth (ish). -
Will be promoting it properly soon, this was just an opportunity for an informal push!
-
Hope you enjoy it Kim! Anybody fancies reserving a copy of 'It's Better To Cry' when they come in contact me at projectsoul@hotmail.co.uk Sales pitch over!

Rick Simmons' first book was one of a number of resources for initially informing my forthcoming piece. Was useful for the historical account of a number of artists of interest to the soul scene this side of the Atlantic and initial detective work for tracking my lot down. Really looking forward to reading his new one too. However, at risk of a wee bit of free advertising, if you are after something to really connect the rare end of the soul scene to beach and related music.....ahem.....coming your way in the next month or so..... Covers the Tempests, Bob Meyer and the Rivieras, Anthony and the Aqualads, Berkshire Seven, Athens Rogues, The Generation, Bob Collins and Fabulous Five, Greater Experience, Appreciations, Embers, Ron Moody & Centaurs, Delacardos, Novas Nine, Lost Soul, Soulmasters, Spontanes, Maurice Williams and Zodiacs and others. Lots of contributions from artists, major players - and also from folk on here! Inn't Soul Source brilliant!

Jimmy Gilford - Nobody Loves Me Like My Baby... Value?
Windlesoul replied to Tommaso's topic in Look At Your Box
At least a few of the wheelsville / d-town etc stuff were southern ( Memphis / Nashville) recordings. Just wondering if this was one of them maybe? -

Beachley's place still there but think very wise and he keeps things close to his chest. I tried to use Chris Beachley as one of my research contacts for my book on beach and related stuff, as I knew of his long local history and reputation in beach music and collaboration with Greg Haynes etc for Heeey Baby Days. However I was surprised and a bit disappointed in that he wasn't very forthcoming with me. Maybe a wariness of folks UK-side after decades of vinyl rape and pillage (my intentions were genuinely honorable!)? Has a website, contact details there. The site itself doesn't look like much, he seems to mainly cater for the 'current' beach music trade etc which we would be less interested in, but I know some very nice stuff did come from tem a few years back and might still deal in some nice bits. He knows the score value-wise these days; after all they did / do specialise in rare beach for the local beach music scene. Also there's the wax museum label reissue side of things they are involved in too. I'm looking at this from a sixties angle though Malayka, can't comment on things if you are after later stuff etc. Think I might do a covert job if I pay them a visit when I go to NC! Mark.

Going there myself in a couple of months, was going to ask the same question! There was a thread on here re Carolina shops and am sure there were a few in Charlotte, don't have any reports on how useful they were though. Mark

Is this indeed a version of the Tempests 'I dont want to lose her' and is it any good?
-
Didn't imply it was dodgey as such, just queried it as an unanswered question. I was one of those who fancied a bid on it! (see the thread on it). I asked Van Coble re it's existence but he didn't know anything about it. Strange that the only Tempests acetate to appear (to my knowledge anyway) was the one off the Lp that wasn't released as a 45 and held Uk interest. All a bit coincidental maybe?
-
Just the one version. Now if anyone has turned up that (dodgey?) acetate....

Frankie and the Damons - Man from Soul - JCP A last try for this, can anyone help? PM me if so....

Read all about it! I interviewed three of The Aqualads for my book coming out in a couple of months (plug, plug). Have the full story including the Chantells. Chantells were part of the Aqualads stage revue. One of them, Vicki Skinner, still sings today. Totally different Chantells to Indian Giver etc (they were with one L anyway). I reckon 250 a fair price IMO, at least that's how much I paid for one from Mr Dyson. Nice piece, always refreshing to hear a female beach record, they were few and far between. Anybody know that Aqualad 5 thing? The Aqua and Gold Bee Aqua Lads are one and the same.
