  1. I lived in Stockport in the late sixties early seventies the town was very territorial , being in close proximity to Manchester the sounds were filtering down from the Wheel so at15/16 it was quite a challenge getting around the towns various youth clubs to get my fix . Non of my normal mates were interested so I bit the bullet and went on my own used to leave just before the end so I didnt get the promised kicking made for an interesting youth . Once I started getting around to propper venues the lads that were so scary became accquaintances some just nodding terms and others as freinds . Exciting times

  6. One of my faves Still sounds fresh
  7. Very dangerous days it was a case of fit in or fcuk off propper rights of passage stuff . Allways thought we were the vanguard , of some thing much bigger . We wer,nt but it felt that way . The new people on the scene will not have had that experience all a vital part of the whole thing for me and colours my thoughts nowadays . We all have differing points of referrence but I would,nt swap the threatening atmosphere of some of the places just to hear some mùsic for the world
  8. Last train to Wigan we went in the Manchester arms near the station propper ropey dump plastic pint pots and very dodgy strippers on a saturday night at seventeen a real eye opener . Recall spring gardens had a female dj very progresive at the time . Happy days indeed
  9. The place to be for many a cool urbanite hipster . Spring gardens and as I recall there was one near the Corn exchange as well
  10. Cracking tune another from that era got plays all over Manchester was Johnny Williams Slow motion just mentioned it as it was in the same vein not northern as such there must be thousands of brilliamt tunes from then that are forgotten. 12. Sale Mecca the blue room early seventies had a great sound system . The club was quite small Ian Levine and Colin Curtis were playing a lot of new releases allways got the impression that we were the guinea pigs before the Saturday night Highland Room session . Fresh new sounds modern production a top sound system fantastic . Conversly Wigan Casino 3am opening baseline George Blackwell Cant lose my head sheer bliss and fantastic atmosphere All to do with context and possible chemical enhancement

  15. For your edification and deight a piece of original 1975 teenage vandalism I keep it as a reminder of when it all turned to shit . Must be worth s bob or two as its an original .
  16. Ah the old comedy soulie arguement . Gets me that they pick up on a particularly piss poor fashion period when the scene has spanned over 50 years . Just dont get it and find it all a bit ssd that people feel they have to tick all the boxes then hit the dressing up box . Each to their own eh .................. .......No !! grow up its 2018 ffs
  17. Piont taken but Footsie was bloody awfull and this was Top of the pops the very crap we were trying to avoid . Persònaly could never get idea of trying to appeal to a wider audience , the scene/culture was far healthier when folks just stumbled upon it that was what I was trying to convey . I actualy bought footsie for the Chuck Wood B side at the time and promptly took a compass needle to the A side such was my youthfull disgust
  18. Sorry to do this guys but this illustrates one of the many shite things that happened in 1975 Please accept my heartfelt appologies .................. ...........................The Devil made me do it See what I did there?
  19. No we are not though . For many of us its about so much more its a culture with all the baggage that goes with it say nothing about the passion
  20. 1975 The Casino was in its heyday and a victim of its own succes in short the scene became trendy aided and abbeted by Russ Winstanlys need for publicity . Everybody and his dog wanted to be a part of it the tourists turned up in droves the whole dynamic of the scene changed causing a shitload of resentment . As Joey said you had to be there but in its own way it was catastrophic.
  21. Bloody Tourists And only a bleedin lizard in the bidet
  22. As Johny Rotten famously said " Ever get the feeling you,ve been had ? " Chinstrokers eh gotta love them .
  23. There was me trying to be all helpfull Arse
  24. Term and conditions apply , your home may be at risk if you dont play original vinyl blah blah blah blah I love original vinyl but who makes the rules ? and more to the point who has the right to dictate how we get our fix . Got into all this in the early seventies because it was anarchic different and was as good a way as any of sticking two fingers up at the dross we were being force fed . it was cool and edgy and quite dangerous at times , especially round the Manchester area and as Joey has stated far more eloquently than I could nobody gave a shit at the time we were having too much fun after all thats what its all about isnt it ? FUN remember that ???
