  6. As an old man who started off in the early seventies may I respectfully remind people of the rules as there seems to be some confusion . We are exclusive , we hate the media , fit in or do one , soul snobery should be encouraged , listen to other than top 500, dont take videos at events , dont wear baggies its not 1974 , Dont play boots , Keep the faith koko and its a way of life are meaningless slogans . DILYIDID is garbage .Nobody needs dance lessons . Above all enjoy yourselfs Hope that clears things up
  7. Did you find a more positive forum then ? A good moan is all part of the fun dont get yòur baggies in a twist

  9. Latin beats have allways been a part of it all as long as I can remember , more valid in my view than a lot of blue eyed soul that gets played

  15. Sat here trying to remember can imagine it and it sounds great but dont know if it existed or not in real life . 74 was a great year for instumentals though and some ridiculus stuff got played I have vague recolections of the music from a Gordons gin advert getting a play at the Casino and folks sitting down . Then conversly there were sublime tracks Thumb a ride for one the sax break just oozes soul , shame that they are out of favour could just have one last go at chucking myself around to Dave Mitchell and the screamers
  16. The common denominator is Soul music thats why we are here but its a bit like verbaling its not all about soul . So what if the thread drifts a bit not the end of the world . But got to admit Wanky Frankie was a step to far

  18. correct me if I am wrong Johnny wyatt this thing called love and the triumphs walking the duck
  19. Without the influence of black music most other genres of music would not exist . Times and tastes change for me Hip hop is the modern day blues just need to be selective . Having a pop at other types of music is pointless soul music isnt the only show in town I quite happily go out to soul nights in a guns and roses t shirt . As for the original premise of the thread its our scene its not been left in our hands we own it like all the best scenes it came up from the streets . The Northern soul scene is unique in spite of the media freindly fame whores that appear on the telly or the very irritating Juds Northern soul on youtube .
  20. Dont know about bootleg cerainly deadleg . Just shown it to Mrs S she is very excited , quite worrying
  21. 1920s cocaine was rife Jazz provided the beat now I bet that was some allnighter.
  22. I attended a couple of soul nights there dont think they did many though no idea who was djing or who organised them , remember a girl behind the bar with a moheican haircut .
  23. Thanks for the offer Martin . I have no doubt about the quality of the nighter scene or the passion the sounds that I have heard especialy from venues like Lifeline ( i know its having a rest ) is nothing short of excellent . The point I was making allbeit clumsilly was part of the fun for me was the daftness and the manic nature of the scene as a young person it was part of the culture and the attraction not just the music and I wonder if the new kids on the block still feel that excitment , there was allways an outlaw elememt and gear was a big deal . I need to get out more
  24. Never knew the Poco ran a session only lived 5 mins away in heaton chapel kicking myself now
  25. The 2am start and wandering about the town with fcuk all to do in the very early days avoiding or sometimes looking for trouble depending on our mood .When the Beachcomer opened that added a whole new dimension . I can recall going outside occasinally for a wander to clear my head and getting hassled from the Cops . Not been to a nighter since the late seventies bet the nighter scene nowadays isnt as much fun even for the younger crowd it looks like its been sanitised . No names or pack drill but is gear still an issue especially with the younger ones ? For a little gobshite from Stockport fear was all part of the fun
