  1. I very rarely get out to soul events due to work so with the time I have I go to the odd scooter rally the soul that gets played at these events is usually predictable lowest common denominator stuff but still soul music. Usually by the time I hit the floor I,m to pissed to care does that make me less of a soulie ? I would quite happily dance to the snake in my local does that make me less of a soulie ? There is nothing wrong with nostalgia events does that make me less of a soulie ? Progresive/modern soul is great does that make me less of a soulie ? I dont want to dance in a shopping centre does that make me less of a soulie ? I fucking hate the term soulie and the idea that we need to qualify and analyse and prove our credentials I personaly dont give a f*** . KTF Barry you are very subversive watch out for the soul snobs and soul police they are everywhere
  2. The Coke add is shite . as for mercy a mediocre pop song at best , a more soulfull cover begs the question why ?
  3. Cd,s have their place I have a hundered or so NS cd,s I could quite easily set up a soul night and play them but so can anybody and thats the point . Original vinyl has provenance and history and shows that the DJ has put thought and effort into their set . I enjoy my small CD collection its nothing special , but I love my humble vinyl collection there is nothing pariculaly rare in it but every one of those discs reminds me of people places and good times .
  4. Cochise - great falling over record .
  5. Whats the word Johannasburg , saw him live at an anti aparthied rally in the early eighties brilliant
  6. Cd,s boots acetates copys of all kind have no provenance and no place in the NS scene . the exeption being new releases that are not available in any other format .
  7. Brinny youth club nice one . Moody woman Cellars youth club heaton moor
  8. Lorraine Chandler - You only live twice .
  9. Sounds a bit like the Esquires mixed with James Last sorry
  10. Soul music like everything evolves other wise we would still be listening to Baroque and madrigals . The music of black america from the slave ships to hip hop has always reflected the black experience ,it might not be to your taste nowadays but soul music is very much alive .
  11. We,re here gotta get Dread on here Nik bloody chrome polishers
  12. Oh no not the bloody mods again IOW should be called soulfull vanning
  13. Sounds like a plan to me Barney you can be No 1 we will have to form a commitee I have scooters myself but I dont remember people turning up at nighters on them though. but I remember a soul night in Matlock in the early 80s and a bunch of Mods turned up because they thought thats what mods do they were all dressed like Suggs ,macs, pork pie hats the full kit and danced like him too but then again it was Matlock "Hey gimme six " FB are you SBW Nik ? I am Mr M
  14. Some people in my experience think that the rare or NS scene is the Snake or Frank Wilson and as such dont appreciate the depth of the scene , I would not like to think that some one like that would produce a film based on it . I compliment you on your freinds my friends dont understand me nor do fellow soulies
  15. People outside the scene dont get it sorry to sound negative but the film will be the usual contrived pap . The only decent representation of the scene and that includes documentarys is the Urban Expansions production of Once upon a time in Wigan imo .
  16. Back in the day when dinosaurs walked the earth and tinternet wasnt around venues used to stand or fall by word of mouth the only info you got otherwise was Frank Elsons collumn in Blues& Soul plus we were all a lot younger and enthusiastic. Now with the internet and forums we tend to dissect every little detail and if one person says something negative it puts lots of others off . As for oldies v modern good soul music is good soul music whatever era its from
  17. I stopped going in 78 , Most of the stafford stuf sounds awsome .any 5 from then .
  18. Motown production values were to such a high standard and the songwriting so good its almost impossible to say but I think just for sheer impact Uptight .

  22. Bought a single called Soul Food thought I had made a great discovery put it on the turntable it was a fucking recipie for chicken n rice
  23. Just a thought , would Motown still have been as successful if artists like the Four Tops , Temps, Marvin Gaye , Smokey Robinson , Supremes etc didnt exist ? and they had to rely on the talents of lesser known artists like Freddy Gorman , Bobby Taylor , The Originals , Brenda Holloway etc .
  24. Wished I had gone but married mortgage and kids To much to young .
