    A good point .This can be said of most DJs on the scene right time and place etc , however having the bottle to play new sounds and IL certanly had balls of steel made him and CC interesting at that time . Still doesnt excuse his recent behavior though .

    Berry Gordy has got a lot to answer for . The best Motown tunes have always been performed by what I call the Motown B team , Bobby Taylor ,The Originals ,The fantastic Four etc . Its a shame people dont appreciate quality .

    Oh but it is so different the Urban expansions production was edgy well observed witty and the audience mainly soul fans could identify with the charactors and humour . The Octagon version live (why ffs ?) was like Mamma Mia for a theatre going audience not soul fans . I shudder to think what a film version would be like . These comercial attempts to represent our scene are by and large unnesersery and no self respecting soul music lover should have anything to do with them . I loved the Casino and was their from it opening till 1978 brilliant memories and music but now it should be laid to rest enough is enough .

    Its a ridiculess situation nowadays that we are so fragmented are we really that narrow minded anally repressed and bitter that we cant remember , back in the so called golden age of Northern soul The Wheel ,Torch,Casino ,Mecca and Ritz all played a good mix of oldies , new releases and contemporary sounds to full dance floors . The soul police would,nt allow that now shame really or am I looking back with rose coulored specs ?

    Magazines tinternet forums more troble than they are worth sometimes , remember when we only had the Frank Elson collumn in B&S simpler times now we disect everything its bollocks its just a music scene thats all ffs .     Personally I dont give a damn (see what I did there ) just glad to get out of the house I like the idea of across the board I love oldies and want to hear newer stuff as well . I go to a few scooter rallies and unless ther is a seperate northern room the soul they play is pretty dire and predictable .

    Brilliant thread definately one in the eye for the nostalgia freaks . A northern soul club with an across the board music policy playing contempoary , oldies and modern soul and it just happend to be Wigan . Could such a place exist nowadays ?
