  5. I got a phone call this morning with the awfull news Alan was one of my best friends a truly lovely person . We had lost touch over the years and just got back in touch last year via Soul Source . As teenagers we would sit for hours discussing George Kerr productions and he could recite the whole British Motown catalouge backwards such was his knowledge even then . He was my best man when I got married a role he took so seriosly that I was drunk by the time I got to the registry office . My heart goes out to Judi and his familly , We have lost a great friend a true gent a great ambassador for the scene . RIP Polly .
  6. There was an article recently in Scootering magazine that may have drummed up some interest about DILYIDID . it gets played to death at scooter rallys
  7. Rather like the rare sea shanty scene chunky knit sweaters , beards, so,westers ,pipes and wellies
  8. Live soul acts at nighters playing their stuff great , but pub bands no its all a bit Wigans Ovation dont you think ?
  9. I can see that I am up agaist it here and completely out of step with everyone . I was talking to a mate who had seen a NS covers band and he loved them , it must be me and old age but the scene for me is record based and anything less just doesnt cut it . Plus I dont like covers / tribute bands yep definatly grumpy old man
  10. Dance to a live band playing northern soul covers .
  11. Festival Time the vocal was to win your love I think .
  12. Lead and balloon springs to mind Official Northern soul dance championships ffs .
  13. No definatly not I like my freinds to much to inflict this keeping the faith burden on them .
  14. He said the scene was racist which could alter/influence the veiws of people outside the scene I dont blame him for the small numbers of black people on the scene but his comments dont help . The northern soul scene quite simply is not a black persons thing pretty much like heavy metal , punk & the rare sea shanty scenes .
  15. In the seventies my black mates were into funk and reggae and thought that northern soul was old and out of date . Also I dont think it helps when tossers like Jazzy B say the scene is racist wtf does he know .
  16. Barry I think your responce was right I would have just called him a dicksplash and told him to shut the fook up
  17. Well no doubt you will be chuffed to know that the talc has been swept up god is in his heaven and alls well with the world , three pages ffs
  18. Definitive answer - www.soul-source.co.uk .
  19. Consider if you will the consequences of comercialisation when the likes of Kev Roberts and Russ Winstanly thought they were record producers . Remember Wigans Ovation ......................Remember The Soul Masters ...............YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED................... Quickly everyone underground
  20. No publicity , your either part of it or your not , if your not tough ! sorry if that comes over as a bit harsh but the rare soul/ northern scene was built on people making the effort to seek out the music the venues etc not just being satisfied with the lowest common denominator dross they are force fed by the media . This scene has been around for 40 years to my knowledge and is showing no sign of diminishing yet , its a unique scene with many facinating facets and kept alive by passion lets keep it that way , lets really keep the faith .
  21. Any way back to the question have we gone full circle ? Yes ! The tunes may have changed but the malady lingers on
  22. Not a day goes by that I dont play soul music . I only have the radio on if its a talk station I dont like other peoples choosing the music I listen to its an addiction for sure and it drives my familly mad . Could be worse could have been staying out all night taking drugs
  23. Suzy,s serenade - Bob Wilson Cochise - Paul Humphries . Not just imposible to dance to but impossible to listen to as well double whammy
  24. Facinating thread nice one Simon , I suppose I am a returnee stopped going to alnighters etc in 1978 marriage kids so my musical knoledge stagnated so most sounds post Casino I hadnt heard . A couple of years ago decided to get back into it so to my ears most stuff is new and I love it dont want to listen to the stuff that ive spent the last 20 odd years stagnating to it has its place but there is so much good quality that has been discovered in the last couple of decades . I am 53 now just hope I have enough time to catch up So is there a good progresive night in the Stockport / Manchester area ?
  25. Brilliant , now how do you get yoghurt off the keyboard ?
