  2. Hi Paul .yes its me
  3. In Stockport there is a good choice of decent soul nights but there are still dodgy pub and dinner dance type evenings . On the established soul nights you know they will be well attended and a good mix of quality sounds being played . The other nights will probably have a looser more flexible music policy and are probably run by oppertunists that may or may not have dipped their toe into the scene at some time ,unless the DJ is known I would steer clear There are however exeptions Brian Walker used to run a great pub night in Stockport a few years back

  7. Hi Barry , vinyl works on a totally different dimension to downloaded music its indefinable to my nieve mind it has a more tangible link to the artist if you get my drift . I dont nessersarily think that knowing more about the music comes automaticly with vinyl, the apreciation of the music is a feeling ,thats important . Owning a load of big tunes and reciting matrix numbers and studying the deadwax seems a pretty cold and souless existence IMHO but I am glad that people do they provide the soundtrack to my life . I dont think the scene will hold itself back there are to many strange individuals out there pushing the boundaries , wether they are driven by ego or a genuine desire to further the scene is debateable .
  8. The Itallian restarant across the road from me does a regular dine and disco type thing , this week they are doing a northern soul one . a hotel up the road is doing a soul and Motown dinner dance and the other day I watched in horror as a guy played a northern set off a laptop with a big screen behind him showing label scans of the sounds he was playing . Its grim up north
  9. Feel the need in me - Graham Central Station . Cant help lovin dat man - Ila Vann
  10. Hurt by dance classes wtf everyone has the right to an opinion but not the right to dictate . The dance classes are pants but so insignificant they are hardly likely to become a nationwide franchise As Paul was the original poster I drew the comparison Plays / Dance classes all publicity quality or not its all subjective . Cheers James I have been nabbed and suitably chastised
  11. Been having a think about all this (ouch) Black music has a fairly rough trot as far a success goes in comparison to other musical genres , when top 100 lists of albums or songs are compiled for TV shows etc black artists hardly get a look in black music is a minority music and northern soul is is a small part of that minority if you get my drift . We are not as influential as we and I include myself like to think we are and the rest of the world keeps turning . Russ Winstanleys attempts to cash in have made very little impact . The Casno Cafe etc people just walk past makes very little difference really nor I suspeck will these dance classes . This is in no way meant as a dig at Paul Sadot or Urban expansions exellent play OUATIW but wasnt the purpose of that to entertain and possibly bring NS to a wder audience ? In the strange but small world of northern soul we analyse every little detail there are no rules and no one has the right to say how it should be , but one thing for certain its still fun . Going back underground now the soul police wont find me there
  12. Its alive I tell you it has risen Mrs S and myself visited the Grand Arcade the other day and sat in the Casino Cafe it was just like being back there For all the effort the images on the walls and the display of memorabilia the world just walked past getting on with buisness as it has allways done proving just how insignificant to anybody other than us it all is .
  13. God we can be a propper arsey bunch when we put our minds to it , KGF just happen to make music that fits the NS template not some contrived manufactured drivell and as such deserve their place in NS history . The Carstairs ,Betty Wright I love oldies but good quality music that fits the bill should get plays regardless of when it was made
  14. I see that she does a beginers alldayer , does she do an alnighter for beginers and would the price include some dancing dust or are you expected to provide your own ? What a silly idea

Loved the Blue Rooms used to get the train from Sale to picadilly and from picadilly to Stockport fell asleep many a time and woke in Stafford The music was fresh and different I am sure Ian and Colin experimented a lot there . Dave Evison used to do a spot . A good sound system and a big mirror along the back wall , remember the poseurs dancing facing the mirror .
