  1. OUATIW was for me an exellent albeit lighthearted interpretation of that time in my life I saw it at the contact and loved it . The Octagon version didnt make it and fell well short of the mark as I suspect Soulboy and other attempts to will . I have never seen a decent documentary , the Trevor nelson thing was cringeworthy and this England just said its grim up north and had a folk music as background ffs . But Dave your right of course its all Pauls fault Stone him :D
  2. I think people only jumped from the balcony when the lift wasnt working .
  3. Northern Soul is part of the scooter scene albeit lowest common denominator stuff , scooters are not part of the NS scene . I enjoy both scenes if I want to hear great NS I will go to a dedicated soul do ,if I want a weekend away and a laugh with mates then its off on my scoot . Not wishing to generalise but many scooterists seem to like a variety of genre,s including NS and dont have the hang ups we have about labels and originality etc . Northen is just part of the wider term scooterist music .
  4. Christopher Eccleston says its brilliant so it must be

  9. Band of Angels -Accept my invitation . lead vocalist was Mike D,Abo formrly Manfred Mann vocalist
  10. Its still available on ITV player her voice is a bit ropey though but still knocks spots of that red haired lanky git .
  11. Davetay mentioned American imports that takes me back . there are so many names for our music nowadays , the one term I have the biggest problem with is Top 500 . I am quite sure when Kev Roberts compiled this list he did it with the best of intentions but it seems to me that it has become the benchmark by which naffness is measured .
  12. The people that use the term rare soul in a derogatory way are probably having a pop at what they see as soul snobs , The people that use the term top 500 in a derogatory way are probably having a pop at what they see as soul commoners . As long as the music fits the bill for danceability who gives a shit what its called , I am in my mid 50s and have more dancing behind me than in front of me , new releases, classic oldies , modern ,rare top 500 bring it on .
  13. The Motown sound evolved from what was going on musiclly at that time from the doo wop and RnB influences , if it wasnt Berry Gordy someone else would have developed a similar sound . Whitfield ,Strong ,Holland and Dozier Robinson etc would still have been born and would have still been creative and the northern scene would still have happend and we wouldnt have been subjected to years of DILYIDID,
  14. Flitting between the Casino and the Mecca in the early seventies just hearing great soul music of all different genres new realeases played allongside older more established tunes was the order of the day so no gateway tunes for me . a much healthier and relaxed attitude then IMO .
  15. :rolleyes:Can I have Soul survivors and 100 Northern soul hits taken into consideration please

  18. :hatsoff2:Simon your right SS rocks its a fantasic resource the knowledge is unbeatable the memories it evokes are tangible the debates are exellent . One of the best features for me is Refosoul that helps me play catch up with the scene and reafirms my faith when I stumble upon something I have,nt heard for years . I have met a few people from of here thats allways good . Through Soul Source I was able to get in touch with Alan Pollard he was my best man when I got married in 1978 and I hadnt seen him for fiveteen years or so and from an initial PM we regularlly e-mailed and kept in touch I am so glad about that so thanks to Mike and the team .
