Personally I dont give a damm see what I did there ? I dont actually care about the future of the scene just enjoy it for what it is , more get ups behind me than in front of me and forty odd years on from embarking on this soulfull journey not going to start worrying now about the future

Cover ups are a bit of fun that all adds to the myistque , as far as the wider world is concerned that record could have lain in a crate for the rest of eternity and never have been heard at all . It all comes out in the wash eventualy so no harm done

Wow you almost make dancing seem like its a spiritual experience a very romantic view . Slightly different for me , my first experience of dancing as a young skinhead to Prince Buster and Motown long before the term Northern soul had been coined for me it was about being different and edgey the lifestyle and the places we went seemed dangerous at the time . It was an escape and a way of sticking two fingers up at the dross we were being fed via TOTP and the radio , The great danger now as I see it is that the sections of the current soul scene through co-operation with the media and the general comercialisation ( Dance classes and films etc ) will allow the soul scene to become the very dross that we were trying to escape from in the first place .

What makes me smile about this thread is that the original poster has attached himself to what potentially could be the biggest commercial venture/cock up the scene has ever witnessed We,ve allready had the One show out of it time will tell eh

The Northern soul scene has always been a freindly place I have never cared how anyone dances and I ,m sure nobody cares how I dance . The notion that people lack the confidence to get up I dont get and in itself is a sad indictment of the scene if people feel like they have to fit in . These so called dance teachers are exploiting peoples insecurity supported by the inacurate media portrayals of athletic baggy wearing dancers and the myth that there was /is a heirachy on the floor . They are no part of a Northern soul scene that I want to be connected to .
