  1. If anyone tells you that you're doing it wrong twat them . There's never been a hierarchy on the floor and I hope there never will be .
  2. Ooooooh I,m so relieved the Snake is on it could,nt find it at first . Phew
  3. TOWIW The only way is Wigan . Bunch of Shredded Wheat munching baggies boring the arse out of everyone whilst they relive their youth .
  4. No Youtube clip available for this gem , Ray Roberts I know what to do to satisfy you . fantastic growly sax in the background that culminates in a few seconds of utter ectasy . ( What a cracking tune ) A more obvious one that never fails to get me Earl Wright - Thumb a ride
  5. We all know roughly where a northern tune is going so there is no excuse . Personally I love hearing and dancing to new stuff ,We are not all like Shredded wheat boy reliving our youth. So many quality tunes out there that never get a look in iit really is a shame .
  6. Stood in the middle of the Casino you felt like you were at the centre of the universe the scene felt massive . In reality we were in a very small minority . I worked in a factory over 3000 workers only three of us were into soul . Locally the girl in the paper shop was the only other one I knew . Early seventies the scene was small but intense and felt bigger than it actually was .
  7. Well done Elaine As for Russ,s comments much preferred Ray Hendersons sets anyway
  8. It does more harm than good and isnt necessary at all , just people massaging their egos and looking good on youttube . A sad sign of the times The modern day soul scene is of no historical relevance . I am sure that some of the folks in the background of these vids are,nt happy they just went out for the night ,I would hate it if I were caught on camera . It would put me off the venue again . Dickhead was me being kind could have beem more forthright.
  9. Hate them ,due to work and domestic circumstances I only get out rarely just want to dance a bit and socialise dont want to be a subject of some dickheads video .. Its intrusive and unnecessary the scene has done fine for decades without this pervasive hobby .
  10. The upside of this is that if Joe Public think its all over then they might leave the rest of us to get on with it . You can trust the beeb they gave us the One show
  11. I,m a rubbish dancer , do I need lessons ? , NO I,m great at being a rubbish dancer
  12. We cosy up to the mainstream via films , TV appearances and adverts etc what did you think would happen ? We love unique music and out of that has grown a culture thats as unique now its being trivialised by all this rubish . Back in 77 someone should have given Tony Palmer a slap .
  13. Think the OP means singers with a melismatic style rather than a genuine soulfull belt it out feed em raw liver type thang .
  14. Did,nt Jerry Wexler call it oversouling ? Round these parts growler has a whole different meaning.
  15. Buggered if I ccould remember the name of the band . The One show ffs the baggys favorite show . Bound to get someone saying its great to hear northern in the mainstream , new blood etc . No it isnt . The only upside is if the Cavaliers get a butty out of it .
  16. Debonettes I wanna be loved not on you tube Hate all the vids from venues of people dancing . Nowhere is sacred from this pervasive pastime even Lifeline isnt exempt. I have an intense dislike of whats happening to the scene and its so frustrating that there is sod all I can do about it .
  17. Bloody hell Byrney you had three shreded wheat for brecy .
  18. Behave There,s always been in fighting all part of the fun . Its a great scene but without its flaws ,diversity and squabbles it would be a bit boring
  19. Daft concept would,nt be rare then would it , rarity is all part of the fun .
  20. Eyup Barney I was trying to say that but several glasses of Three Barrels got in the way You know I,m right though eh
  21. Not really that bothered about what people wear thats not the issue to me . Just hate the media and fly by night bandwagon jumpers trivialising something that I have been passionate about for the last forty something years . That's exactly what this advert has done . Its our scene we have shaped it into what it is , dug out obscure music that would have lain unwanted forever, made stars out of artists who nobody had heard of , all this was done without the help of the media . All the media ever do is cock it up .7 We should have nothing to do with them they have not earned the right .
  22. One of the worst media intrusions for me is Youtube and the endless amateur videos filmed at venues there are bloody hundreds of them . When I go out I want to enjoy myself I don't want some tosser with a camera anywhere near me and worrying if I,m going to end up on the web . The general media have never done us any favours why we should cooperate with them at all leaves me puzzled and those so called " Soulies " that do need to give their heads a good wobble as they are doing the scene they claim to love a great disservice .
  23. I thought it was a Duraphet advert at first either way its shite .
  24. Better than your knob dissapearing and your poo turning white .
  25. That would be a great idea policing the doors . Just dont get the whole facination with clothes from a scene that spans five decades the overiding impression is a ridiculous look that was prevalent for a couple of years in the seventies . The soul scene is primarily about the music and for me sticking two fingers up at convention and stereotypes so why the need by some to embrace the media is beyond me . Northern soul flashmobs dancing butterbeans in Blackpool , The One show and now this , its not cool and is rapidly becoming the very dross we were all trying to escape from in the first place .
