  1. A juvenile Blackcap, amongst the many species of birds that had a really good breeding season at Belvide this year
  2. It has been a while since I got out with the camera, due to spending the last 6 weeks looking after my lovely wife who had broken her arm. She is out of plaster now, and in a few weeks should be back to 100%. Anyway a couple of Tree Sparrows (bearing gifts) to get back into things
  3. Welsh ? Cracking image Steve ... love it
  4. I would agree Steve, I can see how your images have improved, that Reed Warbler with the out of focus reeds and colours in the background is lovely
  5. Sad to hear this R.I.P Mr Tee
  6. John there are a few rubber turntable mats on Google, even a rubber / cork one on Amazon (supposed to do wonders for the sound quality). Rubber one Rubber / Cork one
  7. A Ringed Plover poses for me
  8. What I would call trousers (before you say it) ... Sunday was better, managed to get a couple of shots of the common black & white Lapwing ... amazing what a bit of sun will do to bring out the hidden iridescent colouring of our wildlife.
  9. They would have been easily confused into thinking it was winter on Saturday, it was freezing cold
  10. A couple of Grey Plover in the gloom on Saturday, you don't see many around these parts
  11. A regular summer visitor is the Chiffchaff, another warbler who's call is probably the easiest to recognise
  12. I love to see shots of them in their natural surroundings, nice one Steve
  13. I thought that looked brilliant ... reminded me of the old 60's & 70's Soul Train clips on YouTube.
  14. That wasn't what I meant when I said can you find a suitable perch for the kids
  15. 500mm f4 here as well Chalky, you would get away with a 300 f4 on a crop sensor body at a pinch, depends how close you can get. There are also 3rd party zoom lenses available, quality drops a touch but they are a lot cheaper. Plenty of 2nd hand lenses out there as well.
  16. As the lads have said, it is a Buzzard ... getting decent shots is just getting the basics right, and years of practice. Best advice to anyone taking a photograph of almost anything is to make sure the sun is behind you, ideally with the light coming over one shoulder onto the subject.
  17. A couple of big birds from yesterday
  18. I might have to show you mine now Steve
  19. I think that is a Chaffinch Chalky . Male & female Bullfinch would have a black tail, and the eyes would be in it's black cap
  20. Great nighters ... proper tunes. As I am having a senior moment can someone remind me the of the record that starts up at 2:52 please
  21. A couple of shots of one of the many Heron at Belvide
  22. Spent a fair bit of time trying to get a shot of our resident Cetti's Warbler out in the open, they are notoriously difficult to get a decent shot of as they tend to skulk about in the cover of the reed bed or undergrowth, and dart around like Speedy Gonzales. I missed focus on the little devil when it landed on an old fence for a nano second, but I did manage a couple of it, the second one shows how they like to stay in cover well hidden from the paparazzi
  23. Well our Common Sandpiper is still with us, it shouldn't be but obviously enjoys the company at Belvide
  24. Ahhh the old machine gun approach ... single shot myself, comes from that distant memory of 36 shot rolls of film when I was learning the art of photography, that and something called buffer overload The other lads take the piss up at the reserve ... they call me one shot , it's like the Valentines Day Massacre every time they photograph something
