I vaugely remember back in about 1983ish john powney telling me That happy had "3" label designs on soozi and also the bee, boot one, and i recall when he did a set he brought them to show me (they were in a carrier bag LOL), if anyone is still in contact with him worth asking him to clear it up, as it was always in my head that there were two designs and for whatever reason this strange none consequencial thing stuck in my head...dont know why as i wasnt a fan of the track i thought it was too....twee Geeooooordie

I do think some of what has been played on the Northern scene was failed 60's purile brit pop etc but then loads love it so ..hey if we all loved the same tracks we'd never get our hands on em I like fall into my love and made it the metrodome chillout room anthem for 3 years and to quote a previous thread there are probably more copies in our good town of barnsley than anywhere else, 5 of us got the Groove groove melody 12 of one seller and cleared him out, From what we gather as Dave pinches points out pressed in the UK as a CD promo for the italian market and then most ended up in japan with this one guy how and why... who knows. Person i first heard it from was a barnsley lad Jez Wroe.. who heard it whilst stopping at his good buddy Paul Suttons in Brighton.. that was quite a few years ago. Then Dave and Bri Pinches acquired pauls copy and it was the first one I'd ever seen and have to recall the night when Dave and Bri were DJaying the earl of doncaster Soul Sam was following them on and dave changed the tempo and soul genre of his set to ensure a nice flow into Sam's set and... of course last track Black box....great moment when sam looked at the decks his eyes went like saucers and said "f*ck me i didnt know it actually existed or was released on this label.....first refusal if you sell it" !! ... i was stood at the back of the stage and he leant over and side mouthed "bloody hell theyve got some bloody tunes these pinches boys" ..... first time id ever heard him swear LOL Dave and Bri will bear me out on this bonefide moment BTW mines up for sale Geeooooooordie

The Angels (AKA the laniers) on river city records .....god used to play this all the time in the early Friendship days absoluetly greeat tune, tricky to dance to and gets the old lungs going Tunes that get me up dancing....millions of em ....but tunes that make me really get down .....Got to give it up - Marvin Gaye, brilliance.. and...AGADOOO ....LOL who hasnt when your pissed... My best sets by djs have varied over the years as my tastes have changed but ther have been defining ones and the ones that stick in my mind as sets that shaped my music preferences and had me jaw dropping were 1) John Powney - Compass Sunday Soul Sessions Whitley Bay 1986 , Played an hour and a half of absolute brilliance 2) Rod Dearlove - canal Tavern Thorne Late eighties - one mega foggy night rod played a blinding set that had me going home with a list as long as my hootchie 3) Richard Searling - couple of occaisions but then He always was one of my favourite DJ's 4) Russ Steele - Earl of doncaster modern room - played one of the most amazing sets ive ever heard from his bottomless collection Other brilliant sets and all on par from Dave and Bri Pinches, Ady Pountain, John Benson, Sean Hampsey. geeoooooooordie

Dont know about telling fibs about venues..doesnt seem any point... and i must agree with some of the comments the poor bugger on face book is just probably stating its a torch or wheel classic etc.... how many will talk about "This was played at wigan" or a "wigan Sound" ive heard that from quite big name DJ's who never went to wigan ....we dont seem to ball crush anyone on that score.... I have told the odd porky to the wife about how much some of my tunes cost ...(com on guys weve had to) hey they were all a fiver love.. ...then bank statements kept landing (drat that bank and cheeky postman for dropping me in it)...i now live in a seperate house But lets face it on here theres been some lying fuckers when their talking about how much they paid for a tune or theres a bit of a brag going on ...theres always a couple of quid knocked off to save face.... i know someone who paid one price for a tune on the bay and posted up on here he "got it a year ago £100 cheaper" !!!Lol.... or when the "GURUS" have been spouting knowledge copied and pasted from wikipedia ha ha.. so bugger it let folk have their fantasy time its theraputic for them......they'll be back on the medication soon . so i'll put me tin hat on and await the flack for that paragraph........... Since the introduction of all night licenseing and relaxed restrictions, many bars clubs serving till 6 am, the likely hood of piss heads..even from the soul crowd was going to happen, as years ago the latest you could get a drink was two oclock but many a venue opened at 12 and there was no alcohol on sale, if there had of been we probably would have seen the same pissheads years ago, its not always "outsiders" that cause the grief...but ive seen threads on here in the past where there was trouble at a venue and it was "a few who walked off the street" ..... was it really??? In the main the trouble at venues is low during 7 years at the friendship I had to deal with 3 flair ups ALL from soulies who were pissed and all who i dealt with accordingly.. but were all getting old now and im worried that the zimmers and the walking sticks will be used in anger at some point Geeooooordie

Ouch............ im reading a few things on here that are making me cringe, for those who know me, for over 10 years i worked for a Canadian company who specialised in degrading polymers i.e degradable plastics etc and one of the macro molecular scientists who had developed many of the degradation materials told me about the damage things like detergents do to carbon materials such as vinyl and how ordinary tap water can allow limescale into the grooves and bugger them, im at work at present but i'll dig out a little piece i did for my friendship booklet about 5 years ago based on what he advised and post up later tonight. To be honest though age is a killer plastics do naturally degrade (albeit we'll be dead before they get to the point of useless) Geeooooordie
