Just Because It Goes On Manships Auction
Geordiejohnson replied to Ernie Andrews's topic in Look At Your Box
yeh i bought one and when i hit the hard times i sold it after 5 attempts on ebay to soap i think he bought it for £20 !!! geeoooooordie -
Hi Steve Sean Hampsey knows more about this but your nearly right, there is an old post about this record, where the outcome was that the solid centres are the real ones which ended up in Rods hands with the large centred ones being pressed by ROD & voices, probably hence why the 400 japanese one have never appeared as its probably urban myth, bit barmey when you think a solid centre one went for about £25 a year or so ago as people thought that was a boot...someone got a bargain But its nice to see even tunes like this have more mystique than some rare 60's geeoooooordie

Most Accurate Vinyl Graders Us Or Uk Sellers?
Geordiejohnson replied to slimharpo's topic in Look At Your Box
Im not a dealer however i have sold a bit on here and ebay, i dont put anything as mint unless its unplayed, and ive only ever had one record in my whole collecting life that was like that, Mint Saw a grading of Mint + once not sure how the seller got that?? For me Ex - is a played but flawless VG + is maybe a slight scuff not affecting play or a small imperfection with a label that is damage rather than production fault (as someone noted earlier) VG visible marks odd pop or crackle or a label imperfection that woiuld be notified i.e writing and it would be expanded and all have soundbites and scans on ebay or are available when i post on here so the buyer can make a decision on that, and i always refund even when i get one that has been fucked in the post like a basic black and pearl i sold recently that was cracked by the royal mail so seller sent back and i refunded all costs, only fair i also have listed as "danced on" and "look like they spent a month as an ice rink", "got more pops and crackle than rice crispies", "buyer beware" and "wheres the label", believe it or not everyone with bad comments have sold and ive always had a good reply like, "got tune Grading spot on, it is danced on" and never a refund asked on the bad uns. I did list a Reachers - I just want to do my own thing, as VG+ with slight cue hiss at the begining but stops just before the track started it was literally a milli second hiss, (you cant hiss with the lips as fast thats how short) the record was perfect apart from that. tune sent and then buyer got back to me that it had a massive cue burn Blah blah blah record not as listed would i reduce the price stupidly i hadnt recieved payment at this point, i said no the reduction and tune came back over a week later after the "buyer" had time to play this at a local event - (saw it on a playlist) only one guess as to why he made such a fuss, he must have been cock waving when DJing at an event the job done dont need the tune now but how many more people have done that. Honesty is the best policy, but i have bought from most dealers in the UK and apart from one or two that i thought were borderline UK dealers mostly get it right, and to be fair us dealer are pretty good after all it is their livelihood, its the johnny come lately sellers on ebay who havent a clue thats where you get stung geeooooordie -

Satchmo - Wonderful World, gets me weepy everytime dont know why Louis sings this brilliantly maybe it makes me wonder about how bad this world is sometimes especially after it was on the good morning Vietnam film with it playing in the background as people were being blown up etc that made it worse I blubbed away find it hard to watch the film now. Big tough geordie eh LOL and there are a lot of male vocals that just hit the spot The Panic is on Roy Hamilton is superb, but on the whole if i really press my brain its a 50/50 split there are some superb fenale tracks that just do it, Gladys Knight, the way we were just reduces me like Satchmo, Areatha, could name a whole host of hers that send shivers down the spine she tackles each song uniquely Geeoooooordie

When & Where Was The First Time You Danced To Northern Soul
Geordiejohnson replied to Arabica's topic in All About the SOUL
My house from nappies and i did an arse bump up and down,, my dad was a soul nut..... in public The Plaza Ballroom Tynemouth 1975 The ballroom was huge it stretched the width of the curved central section, sad the place burnt down it would have made a brilliant weekender venue it had 6 floors right down onto the sands with a roller rink on the bottom and up to the curved dome on top it was Huge my mate had the arcades at the side of the building and he took me round a couple of times the building was a treasure. Geeoooooordie -
when i ran the friendship soul nights just to make things a bit different for the paying supporters i used to do a Free give away friendship soul review magazine, it included bits about the history of soul in Barnsley and Yorkshire, Guest DJ write ups record reviews, adverts etc etc and some tongue in cheek fun sections, in one I did a tribute to all the good music rags that have come and gone (smash hits and the like LOL) so i picked two tunes to sing along to with "amazin tough lyrics" and during the night of the venue I played the tunes and everyone had to sing along you see we were sick of the scene taking itself too seriously at the time so we had the odd daft sections just to make sense of it all. But here for you today is the reproduced page from The Friendship Pure soul review edition 8 of February 2004 get the two tunes on the decks and sing along If you click on the image you can see a clear image of the page Geeoooooooordie

Current Day Bootlegs And Bootleggers
Geordiejohnson replied to Premium Stuff's topic in Look At Your Box
Im not having a go at you but i do hear this discussion about the Artists being ripped off...... they have been since day one and its totally wrong and i think even the legit soul scene has done that for years, the chances of most of the artists or writers getting any type of royalty is next to dead, but how many soul venues act illigally by not producing playlists and not submitting them to PRS so that artists can get royalties, or how many venues actually take or have took a moral stand and say X% of the door is going to the artists played tonight. I think the answer is None...so your right the hypocrisy of Northern soul.....even by people like me who do collect orginals is actually shameful. I hear and read a lot on this site and been part of the OVO brigade bangers but because they/we/I are buying original we think weve done our bit for that artist...well what exactly did we or the seller we bought off give back to the artists? oh unless it was a new release. How much money do you think the likes of Tobi Legend or Dean Parrish should have had everytime their tracks were played on the soul scene?? if we did contribute properly Yipee I bought real ones but the artist got feck all So in essence are we ripping the artists off as much as the bootleggers...one for thought Geeooooooodie -
Current Day Bootlegs And Bootleggers
Geordiejohnson replied to Premium Stuff's topic in Look At Your Box
MMM i think this boot legging is "catching on"........i'll get me coat no wonder i never made it as a comedian It is sad that it happens but how many of us had copies in the good old days, when we were young and skint that fuelled this type of person, many of us got wise and changed, a lot dont care..... sad and maddening, but it will always happen no matter how much we now protest geeooooordie -
All Is All What It Seems In Manships Auction?
Geordiejohnson replied to Ric-tic's topic in All About the SOUL
Im sure on an old thread on here years ago a legal SSourcer explained that there is a requirement for the way auctions have to be conducted and full accountability and traceability of all bids, the problem I see with any online auction is ..how do you apportion a bid to an item if its done by e-mail or by the phone? but in that thread someone had a go at john then on a particular auction and he provided all the bids in one of his posts on the auction regardless as to how they come in so hes pretty good on the accountability side if its done by a bid button on the site linked to a particular item then there would be an audit trail, im sure mr tax man would have looked at online auctions years ago and tied this sort of thing up. On the Mr Manship front, Ive always found John to be honest and upfront, he was very good on a charles williams i wanted years ago, when i enquired, as the listed price was unusually low..i got a reply that he couldnt find it and i thought, oh he must have seen the price and thought otherwise......BUT, about a year/18months later he called me and said did i still want the charles williams as he'd found it, of course i hadnt found another so deal done and he still honoured the low price he had on it originally, it was a bargain.... a his business reputation relies on that and lets be fair with the volume and value of items that hes had through his business over the years would he risk all that, (and im not being derogatory here) on a few items whilst dear to you, pretty low in value what hes had through his hands over the years.... i think not. Bill Swift Rip - Funeral Details / Celebration Of Bills Life

Heres My comments from the feedback in events of Sheffield City hall held courtesy of Goldsoul LTD but should I have expected anything other than what happened?????????????????? "One thing i didnt add but maybe should have put in the original post....DJ's give courtesy to your paying guests make a list so the guy following doesnt play the same tune. In the modern room Micheal wycoff Looking up to you got aired 3 times, George Benson Love x Love 2 times, I heard tunes in the big room and the same in the alternative room, Years ago DJs made an effort and turned up listened to pre sets by other djs and didnt repeat, we certainly commented about it and for me unforgivable ... it is basically telling the paying public Im not making the effort, coz we dont give a chuff about you... Take that as me saying "sacrilege" a total violation of the sacred rule Geeoooooordie

Who Sets The Prices In The Rare Record Guide ?
Geordiejohnson replied to Sceneman's topic in All About the SOUL
EBAY...lol..... but seriously if something went daft on ebay a few years ago it seemed that dictated the "going rate" regardless of rarity, usual price etc and ive seen dealers prices reflect such.....I wanted a jean terrell some years back it was up at £30 on a site so i enquired spoke to said person and they said theyd have to check it was still there and then said hasnt one just gone for £60 on ebay??, of course the tune wasnt "found" went back onto musicstack a few weeks later and.....Voila jean terrell is there for...£60 from same seller. And as Dave Pinches pointed out JM goes on his sell through, but i must add John is an honest seller and dave pinches and I know that from my personal experience on a specific tune and I'll always trust him, so sometimes i'll pay a tad more for the fact its Honest john. The Admirations-Dont Leave Me-Reissue Or Not?
Geordiejohnson replied to Thfcliam's topic in Look At Your Box
ive had two copies of this, and the last one i bought off mr manship and i have a scan of the label on my home PC and they are in Capitals both are real uns as Boba said label variations thats all Geeoooooordie -
the threshhold is £9,000 per annum now, i asked my accountant if selling, when the resession hit my business, would mean id have to declare it, as they were my personal items no if i didnt sell over the amount above, then id have to prove the length of time id owned the records etc in case of a query so that it wasnt me buying or selling records for profit even if i wasnt classed as a dealer, so i took that as if i sold £20,000 worth of tunes if i could prove id had them for over 20 years i wouldnt pay tax hope that makes sense geeooooordie
