Really really REALLY.. dont... want to start an OVO debate or OFO or whatever is chic at the mo but im confused and as a collector of over 35years of soul music...if someone pays fees etc to licence an item whilst not the original release it would make it a legal relase YES / NO !!?? But from some of the comments why are some people dimissing it as a "boot" SO I Agree with Mark Randell the CD is the orginal release (and i agree we have an obsession in this scene for "the original" cant argue) and i also come to the conclusion from the comments above that this messed up label one is a legitimate release fees paid (just bad marketing) If people are saying its not legit then doesnt that make Grapevine, grapevine 2000 (for someof its music) inferno, expanison (for some of their music) etc etc and any other fees paid releases, but not original, all boots as well ....would it not?. Im here to be educated, but i licence products from degradable plastics to computer software and have been involved in this field of business since 1994 if someone can tell me a reason that a fee paid licensed item is not legit id like to know why. Letting Drunk's In Venue's After The Pub's Shut ?
Geordiejohnson replied to cress's topic in All About the SOUL
Steve no offence intended to your post, i was just saying that one incident wouldnt kill a venue, not one that is been run as well as Easington, and ive seen more than a few yobs running around at other soul venues that are still going...wasnt there a serious incident at another north east venue a while back which resulted in a stanley knife attack..not the promorters fault hence why i havent named the venue but it does occaisionally happen and yes its a let down on the night and when it happens we all have an opinion and the world goes mad... but we go for months years before an incident happens and hundreds of thousands of happy punters the length and bredth of britain over the 365 days..so lets keep it in context...i was scrapping with pissheads every night when i ran the compass in whitley bay... if only it had been a one off like this then it wouldnt be worth talking about...(mind you i was young and enjoyed the rumbles occaisionally ) Geeooooordie -
Letting Drunk's In Venue's After The Pub's Shut ?
Geordiejohnson replied to cress's topic in All About the SOUL
Firstly cress has a valid point but.... but can i add just for the posters and readers who havent been there ..... cress has and has commented what he saw and i hope the promoters take on board his honest comments and put something in place which im sure they will.. but let me put my point over Ive been up to Easington on numerous occaisions travelling up from Barnsley...ive djayed there 3 times...why Because its a venue run by guys who have worked hard to keep a part of the community alive..they are soul fans through and through who with their love of our music put on the night to generate income to keep a community hub open that is used for the elderly, the unemployed, the disabled, the youths..... they work hard to make it a centre that provides a service for easington... In all the times ive been there there has been no trouble what so ever and the guys keep a pretty tight handle on it in the main I ran a club in Whitley bay for four years and when i was running the friendship nights i had to deal with the odd arsehole resulting a quick dig to quieten them down and eject them and most venues will from time to time..(so chalky it still is done.... and a quick one two to the darby and kidneys doesnt arf make em smart) Should the people causing the issues have been ejected...yes and maybe the promoters missed them this time, (not sure how they missed someone running the full length of the floor mind you) and thats regrettable but dont hang em just yet.... weve all made mistakes but to have comments like their days are numbered or what the towns like after dark well it sort of paints an unfair picture... and to be honest most of the locals are pretty decent people ...in the downstairs room me and bob on the three occaisions i was djaying there.. double decked for the last hour and some of the locals came in they were a bit merry but entered into the spirit of the night and danced and were no bother whatsoever, nor did they take the piss in fact one bought me a pint so fair doos Ive been to soul night where soulies are a fucking nuisance and fall over, start arguments and ive had a fisticuff or two myself interviening and helping get a pissed up soulie out of the premises one of these was a handbag thief from our fraternity.. who payed the money and went on a thieving spree so there are low lifes within our soul community as well.. So whilst its regrettable that this occured, it is a first that im aware of.. and Bob Jeff and Jon will take comments on board and work hard (as they do with everything else for the club) to make sure the night is a success without trouble, they are a great bunch of lads, with big hearts, so dont let it put you off visiting in the future Geeoooooordie -

Charlie Hodges - Loving You Is Beautiful - Calla
Geordiejohnson replied to Geordiejohnson's topic in Record Wants
this is a shameless bump but still looking for this Geeooooordie -
at last a thread that has actually asked a reasonable question to a point that is has been discussed among collectors and soulies for years but never really broached on here... and i think is quite pertinant to the scene... Has the collecting bug... got someone to a point where a persons over stretched themesleves... f++k yes...the drug that is vinyl collecting has had me putting a big purchase before other things in the past....and i know a lot of other folk that it has too..been collecting since i was 13.. so 38 years on top of me teens and a lot of cash later... and i even borrowed money off me dad to get tunes in my teens...not sure if he ever got it back...he was as soft as a brush with me when it came to music, he loved soul more than i do. I restrain myself now... but at one time i was buying tunes an thinking..... its only £20...its only $5 ....its only £50 then at month end errrr ahh £500 down The need to beat the next man to a tune was a major factor..when ebay appeared it made things more accessable and at one point i was watching over 70 items in one week...madness when i look back The key to it is that the tunes always turn up if you wait... no need to hurry...plus getting older makes you wiser (until the next must have appears LOL) Dekka youll have a thrombosis if you let it get to you ....its a bit of social banter... its only vinyl...we need to have fun with our tunes and our chit chat.. Geeoooooordie PS Gotto go got a couple of ebay watches that i cant afford...but im gonna bid anyway

Are mash ups killing soul......i want to give a thoughtful and tempered response but im not...the mash ups are just CRAP why Regurgitate tunes that are good in their own right with inferior shite.. the so called harold melvin, house for sale and pressure tracks ...well ive taken both millie and drizabone and changed the pitch and retained tempo on my cool edit pro software and got the same track, its so easy a 5 year old can do it I cringe when people go "oh have you heard that remix of"...... its great No its not killing soul.... only if we get sucked into the stupidity of it..... but i do think it dumbs down music...and some folks brains Geeooooooordie
