  7. Jesus Christian what a load of bollocks you talk, so you telling me youve never been to a soul night where local issues or reissues are played......christain theres brown stuff dribbling from the corners of your mouth matey So would you consider british stateside releases to be crap issues or reissues could name many more lables but cant waste my time. Oh by the way hats off to Grapevine2000 for bringign rare and unissued tracks to the masses Geeooooordie
  8. Nick I think so many people had them because we were all skint and they were cheap...........and a lot of the tunes werent as available as they are now with tinternet etc,.... doesnt make it right but there were cart loads around and the "must have" frenzy of getting a tune to play at the boys club or get it played at the local northern venue that no one else had was almost unbearable at times. Everybody where i was from had a couple each my first one was beverly ann as well...dont know where it ended up sold it as soon as it had been played at the Plaza by Groovy trev the DJ (soiled goods after one play for me had to move on quick you see) Geeooooordie
  9. Topics like this are always contencious however for me its the sight of a pair of spencers 40s and hearing moans like "i hate this modern stuff" when a 30 year old 70's sound comes on Hey I wore 40s till 1978 when my father asked if me and me mates had got a job in a circus (did the trick I tell you, we never wore them again) But o the flip side I dont care what gets played as long as the DJ caters for the type of crowd thats in and creates an atmosphere, I love rareties but recently went to a local venue where the crowd were all into the big wigan sounds and the floor was heaving, then up pops a known (only plays rare) DJ and killed it. and Been to rare do's when a "MR golden oldie" got on the decks and killed that also. Not bothered about the Karzies waded through too many to even care any more as long as me bladder is empty the moisture can be danced off the shoes. Many people are bemoaning the fact of CDs being played but drax does this and has nearly a full house everytime. I dont go to drax as I dont approve of CDs but, am I missing a good night out for my elitism? I dont know. Geeooooordie

  15. I often used to stagger out of a nightclub in Bridlington called "Fingers" on a Sat night in the late 70's to the strains of Mood Mosaic. It's always had connotations of skidding on vomit and chips for me, but I used to love it. Weren't the 'vocalists' the Ladybirds, the same women that used to do the Benny Hill music and other Sat night trash TV themes. Jordi link
  16. Totally agree.........blinding Geooordie
  17. Darrow fletcher (another child prodigy) and JJ barnes should have been household names not just revered in the soul scene. As should Paul Sindab Roy Hamilton (just listen to his voice on "let the music play"...outstanding) blimey because this scene thrives on an underground, unknown, & rarity nature there are too many brilliant artists to mention Geoooordie

  21. I must be alone on all this, I have records arrive late ....2 months late and had them repackaged at customs but in 25 years Ive only ever had 1 broken (and I think it was sent like that) and none missing and ive moved arround the UK and eventually settled in sunny YORKSHIRE and My Postie now signs my recorded del for me and stashes the discs in a secret hideaway if im not there SO A BIG HATS OFF TO THE GPO FOR 25 YEARS GREAT SERVICE (WATCH MY NEXT PURCHASE GO AWOL AND MAKE A FOOL OF ME)
  22. Forgot to add this to my last tag, this tune is not that new a find, If Im not mistaken, and some of the North East lads may chip in here, but I do believe John Powney had a copy of this way back in the early 80's I certainly think he played it at the Compass club in whitley bay on one of My Sunday soul sessions about 1984. Geoooordie
  23. I met gilly at sheridans last year courtesy of my auld mucker Gary Steele and the stories gilly told me that night were in a nutshell.... fantastic and he's a bloody good humoured chap as well had my sides aching. Hes got a fantastic knowledge not just of music but of the soul world and who else could boast to having Johnny Mae Matthews sign their copy of "I have no Choice" whilst standing in her kitchen. Geeeoooooordie
  24. In light of the great sounds passed over in the 60's its easy to see why there aint many of these, probably crashed and burned on release and was melted for represess....nowt special IMO cant imagine why it is fetching such a price purely because theres only a few not cause its that good Geoooordiee
  25. I agree with what you say Andy, however to add another slant, last year at our anniversary do at the Friendship we had Soul Sam who for me is one of the greatest, however some find him radical we actually had reduced numbers at the venue for that night many of the regular supporters saying they weren't coming to hear his style of sounds (for me their loss). Sams spot was out of this world and I feel the money he charged was not high at all (a pittance in fact) to hear one off gems and to be blunt I will probably book him again for the anniversary this year. But did he put bums on seats.... not really on the night, but........ but he did attract a crowd that night who had not been to our venue before many of which have come back and swelled the normal supporters numbers so there has been a great trade off due to Sams Appearance. So unless your running a venue and can visualise and appreciate the long term imlications and benefits a lot of these "known" DJ's can bring .... belt up and stop whinging  Geooordie
