  3. that is the best he can play
  4. I was typing my post when you posted this john.........I think the threads will now go deathly silent, if they dont, peas and brains come to mind. If anyone is watching your auctions thoroughly they will see you have tracks that go for way less and some for more......thats life depends if you want a tune bad enough. Ian Johnson
  5. Im not in the game of "did he - didnt he", but im sure there are guidlenines/point of law for how auctions must be conducted and can be opened up for scrutiny in case of wrong doing...if there are any I vaugely remember something about Christies who had some insider bids going on a few years back and someone ended up in jail. Well wouldnt this apply to any other auction....internet or not, for me though i have never bid on an auction other than ebay...though i do watch JMs and if he was on the diddle..... as some are claiming...... why did things like "the Appreciations - its better to cry, and a few others very recently, go through for far less than they've been trading for over the last few years ???? just an observation Geeooooordie

  7. Just an observation of my own, a few of my friends from long ago attended a soul night recently after years of not attending, at the end of the night they enthused over tracks they had not heard before such as A.C Reed, my babys been cheatin, Cookie jackson, do you still love me, Billy ekstine, I wonder why, but were not impressed by The Appreciations, its better to cry or bobby kline...so i suppose the R&B comment from the opening thread holds true in this case..... why i dont know , but Im sure some philosopher's and learned sages on here will set us straight Geeoooordie
  8. Ive got a minter playes fan daby dozee but wont part for the world Geeooooordie
  9. The canal tavern Thorne never seems to get the reconition it deserves but i loved it heard many a new sound broke there, For three years weve been trying something new at the friendship....funny though we dont seem to get anyone travelling, although everytime myself and billy the boot DJ out people come up and say they are defo gonna make a trip over, but never do so, i believe there have been a lot of venues that have dissappeared due to apathy, that havn't or arnt getting the recognition they deserve, Back in the eighties i heard sounds in small venues that are being claimed as greatsounds only now but had the support for some of the venues been there maybe we'd be talking of a greater anmount of venues that had an influence not just the Tonys, stafford, keele, lets face it on the tune front there are very few new discoveries out there, the majority have been discovered and played somewhere before but not played to the massess Geeooooordie
  10. Fantastic glad i contributed to the coffers and your right Bigsoulman the downloads are slick and the site opens up super fast like shit off a shovel Geeooooordie
  11. I also disagree with you brett that the whole ethos of the rare soul scene is built upon playing and collecting rare vinyl, it is partly that, I am a collector as you know, but i do like the cd to bring stuff i will probably never have the chance of owning in the near future such as the limelights, jimmy gresham etc without the CD i couldnt sit in my car and enjoy those classics so yes vinyl is a thrill but listening to very rare tunes by whatever means is a thrill too. Geeooooordie
  12. Cheers dan but it was June 2001 would it still qualify??? probably not.. But good advice for others
  13. cheers lars wasnt aware of this site...is it mark speakmans?
  14. Just been reading a few threads about ebay tricksters, scams or that ebay doesn't do anything when your duped or report miss doings, and i cast my mind back to Mark speakmans site Soulbid. Ive had a few thoughts (unusual for me) but What happened to Soul Bid? If people had got behind it, could it have been an auction site that was run by a soul lover that could have tackled theses issues? could it be that because ebay is now a world wide market place, they are not interested or incacpable of dealing with what to them seem minor irritant questions or grievences but are big for us? Could a specialised auction site be just what our scene needed - need? Geeooooordie

  20. [ Cooncil Hoose Soul.
  21. Usually heard " got a a few rarities for a bargain only 3 known copies" what they really meant was "Bought a few tunes the other day, non are rare and i paid over the top for them" but how often do you hear of any one paying over the top Geeoooooordie
  22. Its one of my plays at the friendship.....see what your missing each month Geeooooordie
  23. So was mine!!!!!!..............and when you start talking to the underwriters about values etc they throw in the words "classic" were they over 30 years old etc etc......... i got only £127 .72p for repairs to a sledge hammered front door and shit all for my records and classic model car collection, also they ask for proof such as catalogue numbers, photographic evidence and receipts, if you cant provide them you will struggle to get paid out...think about it, who outside this scene are going to accept you may have few 7" singles worth more than a grand each...they say "prove it sunny jim" Geordie
  24. Because Im a non believer and if i do end up at the pearly gates i'll probably be rejected so... Freddie Houston - If I had known, is my No1 choice Ruby and the Romantics - I'll cry alone, No2 The Appreciations - its better to cry , No3 Geeooooordie
