Donnie Hathaway just chills me right out and this is wonderful the studio version is not as good as this live version, strangely enough the 7" single on atco has the studio and live on the same pressing cat number matrix etc had three copies two studio and one live and cannot tell them apart at all cheers geeoooooordie -

If your bootlegging and want it to appear legit it is logical to pick on the areas / names ie Balance town, that would create credibility, that's been done for years, that alone doesn't make it a legit copy, Also to quote sunny soul " but even as producer/ arranger/writer, did he have the rights to the masters in the first place ? Did the release need Gene's approval ? well he licensed it to Crazy beat so we can only assume he may well have had the rights, I can recall not to many moons ago no one knew about this single and most if not all of my collecting friends always insisted it as album only so the "cynics" who think it was brought out to meet the demand have a good argument due to the demand of the album, i know a couple of blokes who have a copy of the single and even they weren't aware until they came across a copy or at least they never ever mentioned to me in comment they were aware until it indeed became part of their collection. Its one of those arguments that no one will ever win because frankly no one knows, judging by the comments posted above and i certainly don't . what i do know is those who own a copy will crow on its legit (and at its discogs price traaaalaa its deffo legit LOL) and those who don't will throw spanners in and cry boot... But whatever you all argue over.. they are great tunes either way... never owned an album nor a single but you cant deny the quality. Geeeooooooordie

It is illegal to keep money paid to yourself or bank account the law clearly states and here it is verbatim... Keeping any money wrongly credited to your account could lead to you being charged with 'Retaining wrongful credit'. The 1968 Theft act defines this as: "A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it". It goes on to say that: "A person is guilty of an offence if: 1. a wrongful credit has been made to an account kept by him or in respect of which he has any right or interest; 2. he knows or believes that the credit is wrongful; and he dishonestly fails to take such steps as are reasonable in the circumstances to secure that the credit is cancelled." tell the police Geeooooordie

What reationship does the northern soul scene have with soul?
Geordiejohnson replied to dean jj's topic in All About the SOUL
Patto is spot on...northern soul is a dance style/scene not a music, and the music played is to meet that style/scene many of the tunes are from many genres including country and western etc, but they fitted the Rhythm and dance style and mood.. I remember years ago when i ran a club in whitley bay every Tuesday we'd have a rock and roll night, a band called the wildcats played (lead guitarist was hilton valentine ex lead from the animals), during the breakwe'd have Djs playing tunes.. the rock and roll crowd were worse for collecting than the soul crowd, rare, underplayed expensive you name it,,, one dj used to play a rock and roll tune every time that got on my tits... but hed been playing it a rock and roll and doowop nights for years he was an oldish geezer then.... go forward circa 25 + years in a club at a Northern Night the said tune comes on and the soul crowd fill the floor... what was it... Dean Barlow third window from the right.... and plenty of what is now R&B/northern has been nicked from that scene Barnaby bye were a soft rock group etc etc.. many a modern dance tracks were big club sounds also, Im glad music likes are personal it would be crap if we all liked the same thing, one mans rubbish is another mans gold and all that, as long as we love what we love.. hey ho Geeeoooordie -
when does a ''wanna be'' DJ become a DJ?
Geordiejohnson replied to ajb's topic in All About the SOUL
ha ha, my conservatories a closed shop, . but i'l do you a playlist next time im in LOL -
when does a ''wanna be'' DJ become a DJ?
Geordiejohnson replied to ajb's topic in All About the SOUL
I agree Nev, and of late i see people getting dj spots that.. lets face it they are soul lovers but not collectors or even djs who haveve started to buy a bit of vinyl, playing mediocre tunes, they self promote themselves on Fbook continually wanting attention posting their playlist, bumming up to promoters (when the next event is looming) ... and then blow me. people blow smoke up their arses saying or posting how great said persons mundane sets were (the same folk actually prior too were saying.."nowt special" common tunes. boring etc). Ive Djayed in clubs since the 80's, can use a mike, have promoted venues, and actually could care less if i DJ or not, but asked i will and play from the heart, and never ask to dj never bumm anyone and only post my plays if asked, Recently i was told about someone (just an average punter who has djayed sometimes ) but nothing to pull any trees up not a collector but has small selection of tunes, who was most upset that they weren't given a particular spot in a particular room at an event and let anyone who would listen know the fact, and sulked for quite a while over it..... that makes me puke. I probably dont wave my arms around enough or act like a sycophant to any promoter out there, to be asked... probably why i only go to one or two select venues now... the rest bore me, that's the sad thing... and 9 times out of 10 i hear better music in my conservatory than i do out. Humph im grumpy today Geeeooooordie -
