  3. Mmmm strange thread this ive know of a copy very near sunny barnsley that was picked up for peanuts 18 months ago, no cover but bonefide brunswick label...i thought the cover had been lost so thats an education for me that there arnt any. when i first started reading the thread i was actually unaware of its supposed rarity and wondered what the fuss was all about, but then its not the first copy ive seen over the years either so when you come across a couple without even looking for it ...is it that rare???...im asking a question here not trying to belittle anyone. how many do we know were pressed? on another note not long ago a person asked me if i could pick a tune that was the epitome of Northern soul what would it be.........1.2.3 len barry i replied..one of the finest recordings ever its got everything a record should be...i still get goose bumps when it gets aired Geeoooordie
  4. Bloody hell trevski where have you been....we played it at the friendship when it was a new release last year and ive just sold mine if id known you could have had it for nowt last friday at soulsville as i was sick of it...and i have to agree with chalky better 60's/70,s £10ers knocking around. Dont get me wrong when i first heard it i thought it was great..but somehow i dont think it will have the longevity or become a classic in the soul scene. Geeoooordie
  5. years ago when younger i would get drawn into the mass hysteria that surrounded some sounds...you know the floor fillers etc...and once i bought them found they werent as good as they sounded with all the atmosphere of the venue..and i also used to listen to the 1st 20 seconds of a track and like or dislike on that before i forward wound the tape or switched my brain off...big mistake overlooked some gems that way. Now i listen to tracks a few times before dismissing or liking them, i also buy what i like,.... i dont think thats too broad....... i buy 60's right through to modern, its not the spectrum of soul thats too broad but the funds that are too narrow P.S. i also get great tips courtesy of Dave and Bri Pinches who have put me onto some lovely tracks over the years .. Geeoooordie

  10. Hi Dan, just moving off the thread a tad....i worked for a company who worked at a macro molecular level with polymers and they did date it..they actually developed controlled lifetime plastics but in order to do this they developed systems to date polyolefines...just an add on...how technology moves on eh geoooordie
  11. Come on shane .. way back when the sound effects were the instruments or some geezer rattling a chain or farting Geeoooordie
  12. Brett Fear not im sure you would have to use furry lip squid raw to have the desired rotting effect, But it is one to watch they did say styrene was more prone to attack than vinyl Geeooordie
  13. I used to work for a company that specialised in degrading polymers, in fact their degradable carrier bags are used by tesco, wilkinsons etc etc, a couple of their consultants were 2 of the top 5 macro-molecular polymer scientists/proffessors in the world. I once asked them about cleaning vinyl, they said the record cleaner advertised would be ok on vinyl but to be careful on styrene also keep it off the labels. just on another note the said avoid washing up liquid like the plague...shampoos and even boot polish are known to rot certain types of polymers fairly quickly, and modern washing up liquids are fairly brutal with carbons ...i was told. They said distilled water on its own was probably the best and that tap water could introduce lime into the grooves and cause damage over time if left and not cleaned properly. Geeoooordie

  18. According to a write up by Pete S and local folklore it was unreleased heres the text from the thisoldsoul web site GRP 125 BETTY BOO: "Say It Isn't So" No, it's not the young lady who was 'Doing The Do' a while back, but a Detroit teenager who cut demos for Popcorn Wylie in 1966-67. No releases followed, but "Say It Isnt so" turned up on acetate in mid-1977, becoming one of the year's biggest (and best) sounds. Several other unreleased items surfaced then, including new vocals to popular Northern standards like Tommy Neal's 'Goin' To A Happening" and Stanley Mitchell's "Get It Baby", along with recordings from Wylie himself. Boo's real name was Betty Bryant, a member of the Adorables who cut a super Northern disc for Golden World, "Ooh Boy", with Pat and Diane Lewis and Betty's sister Jackie

  22. Great point Dave Id also like to say what a great thread and great to see John Manship and others sharing his thoughts and knowledge instead of some of the usual "speculation" that sometimes gets aired, im not a soul encyclopedia type, so its great to read interesting comments from those with years of experience top thread Geeoooordie
